  • Welcome to the compact car range - the most distinctive members of the family are the CLA Shooting Brake and the GLB SUV. Different in so many ways yet similar in their character, these are two cars that bring their own unique flair to the segment and show that not every compact car has to follow the familiar recipe. You could call them the "anti-normal" compact cars.
    Join us as we dive in to these two models and find out what makes them stand out.

    Really well presented and I agree that the Shooting Brake is the one to go for. Beautiful car.👌🏻

      Thank you! Believe me it was tough to pick between the two.

    We have a 200 GLB 200 premium plus bought new in 2021. We will be replacing it in 2024 for the new registration and have been looking at the CLA 200 shooting brake , so this video has been a great help. Apparently there are a few facelifts coming too.

      This was one of my favourite videos to do and until now I thought of it as the twin test that nobody needed - I'm glad you found it useful!
      Facelifts are on the way for both models and should be on the roads in the autumn. Brochures and pricing for both are available now; the biggest change as part of the facelift is the introduction of mild hybrid petrol engines - I've had a go already in the facelift A-Class so you may find this video useful too: th-cam.com/video/v841dQx77Zo/w-d-xo.html

    Love the shooting brake and had the pleasure to test drive one recently. Really keen to get one soon although a little disappointed that the night package can not be added (although it's available on German spec cars). Nonetheless beautiful car!

      It's a car that I never get tired of looking at. Look at it under low light with water droplets on the body and it truly comes to life. I have a feeling that we will be seeing the night package coming to the rest of the range - AMG 35 and 45 S models get it and it looks astounding on the Shooting Brake.

      Yhh a real bum that we can’t get might package as I think that makes the car perfect . However I’m pretty sure it’ll be coming end of this year but I need it now

    I have ordered mine CLA250e Shooting Brake, but and there is a but, just had conformation that it’s going to take 10months minimum, do you know why so long?, are the CLA made in Hungry and is it due to parts shortage or Covid?.

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question - at the moment, it's the semiconductor shortage which is creating a bottleneck throughout the industry. We have started to see an increase in new cars arriving from the factories which is a good sign for things to come. Hopefully semiconductor supply improves and though 10 months is quite a long lead time, we can hope that it will arrive within that time frame. A CLA 250 e Shooting Brake will definitely be worth the wait!

    What's the total range of the Shooting Brake 250e, Fuel and Electric combined based on Motorway driving? Total range is not listed anywhere, only the electric range. Would appreciate it, thanks!

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question - the WLTP test is made up of different speed sections with different economy/consumption ratings for each. With WLTP the figures are designed to give a more realistic idea of what the car can do and from my experience, the projections can be pretty accurate.
      For engine consumption I've based it on WLTP extra high with average speeds of 58 mph and a top speed of 81.6 mph. Extra high cycle consumption is rated as 38.2 - 44.1 mpg. Averaging these two figures to 41.2 mpg with the fuel tank size of 35 litres or 7.71 imperial gallons could give a petrol range of up to 317.7 miles.
      Applying the same workings to the electrical consumption, at WLTP extra high electricity consumption is between 2.55 miles per kilowatt hour (mi/kWh) and 2.99 mi/kWh so averaging this to 2.75 mi/kWh would deliver up to 29.2 miles on electric power.
      So, basing it all on extra high WLTP cycle figures, we estimate a combined range of up to 355.3 miles with a mixture of petrol and electric driving all at motorway speeds.
      Doing the same maths on the combined cycles we estimate up to 325.4 petrol miles and up to 42 miles on the battery giving a total range of up to 367.4 miles.
      From my experience of running an A 250 e purely on petrol power on the hilliest motorway in the east (the M11) the consumption figures are realistic. What WLTP cannot really take into account is the regeneration, coasting for extended periods of time, etc. The engine may spend a long time switched off, and I find with plug-in hybrids on motorway routes it is good to use electric power at low speeds and whilst accelerating before switching over to the engine for the high speed sections.
      There's a lot of maths and asterisks and circumstances in this but hopefully this gives you an idea of what the two systems can do together. Your figures may be lower, they may be higher. I personally have been on both sides of the WLTP figures but I see the numbers and think that it is something that can be aimed for. You will also very quickly master the art of getting the most out of both sides of the powertrain when you drive a plug-in hybrid.
      Numbers and consumption aside, the CLA shooting brake is something I would happily spend even more time with! I hope this is helpful.

    Loved the presentation on both cars. The shooting brake is beautiful indeed, but as an SUV guy the GLB is the one for me. I love the design, more in line with the GLS imo, a baby GLS. It's also not a coupe!

    Would be nice if I could get mine at some point, continual delays mean it will be over a year since ordering that it arrives and Mercedes dont seem to care one bit….

    Are they both the same white colour?

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The GLB is in Polar white solid and the CLA Shooting Brake in this video is Digital white metallic - there is definitely some silver in the Digital white paint. It can almost look like a very bright silver under the right lighting.

    The cla looks like a metallic digital white. Its crazy how it shines allmost babybleu to white

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's right! The CLA's colour is digital white metallic - it looks silver under certain lighting and bright white under others. The difference between digital white and polar white (non-metallic, the colour of the GLB in this video) is greater than I thought.

      I see. So what would Your negatives be? I mean I run a CLA 180 Premium Plus and the only negative I’ve found in 12 months of driving it is that when I press the sunroof button I have twice hit the SOS button by mistake because I forget which is which. Surely that’s my problem not the car’s. If I start on the positives we’ll be here all day. I love it as much as he does because……..
