    All VE Commodores had the window controls in the centre, even on Australian cars. Look at the dashboard and you can see it was engineered to make it easy to have the steering wheel on either side. The VE was exported to other left hand drive markets aside from the US, like the Middle East, so they threw the switches in the centre, as that saves on the cost of unique door parts for left hand drive production cars. Later with the VF, they decided to go to the added expense of putting them on the doors and that is of course why the SS has them mounted there.

      The 9C1 has them on the doors, so Holden was forced per your logic to put them on the doors on the 2011 to 2017 Caprice PPV 9C1. There is no where to put the window switches on the 9C1 in the center console as that is for police equipment and why the shifter was moved to the column on the 2014 to 2017 Caprice PPV 9C1 because US police complained about the floor shifter. In this video is the 9C3 that was more G8 with the exact same center console and what people swap into a 9C1.

    Gonna have to disagree on not being comfortable on the road. Drove mine back from Virginia and it was so refreshing to have a phenomenal amount of leg room and comfortable seats.

      Suspension could be shot on that car he drove. Its a ten year old cop car after all. :)

      Agreed, I have driven my 2011 Caprice PPV 9C1 from Texas to/from Wisconsin multiple times and it is a comfortable ride. The seat can go way back like you say and never got uncomfortable. But mine only had about 40k miles on those three trips and I maintain it well. Now has 58k miles and is 12 years old, so one with 160k miles with rust issues I can see would have a rough ride.

      The shocks on these are pretty firm to handle the extra weight of the police equipment, compared to a G8 or SS. But I'm sure the mileage isn't helping either.

    The Caprice was sold in Australia as Holdens statesman / Caprice. The statesman came with the 3.6 HF V6 as standard, whereas the Caprice was the full luxury version with the V8 as standard. These were Holden’s answer to a Mercedes S-class or a BMW 7-series. There as also a HSV version of the Caprice called the HSV Grange, which was a more powerful , sports-oriented luxury sedan

    The reason why the window switches are in the center is for easier conversion from Right hand drive. You know this, but the car is essentially a Holden Caprice but stripped of any and all luxury features and made just utilitarian for North American, left-hand drive fleet duty.

    • @cvpiDOTnet
      @cvpiDOTnet ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the window switches on a 9C3 are in the center console as it is the exact same center console as the earlier year Pontiac G8. The 2011 to 2017 Caprice PPV 9C1 have them on the doors because the center console was designed for police equipment. However, the Caprice PPV 9C1 from 2011-2013 had the off-set floor shifter that cops hated. The 9C3 was only 2011 to 2013 and the 2014-2017 never got a 9C3, only the 9C1. The goofy off-set floor shifter was moved to the column for more police equipment in the center console as GM got too many complaints on the floor shifter and they moved it to the column.

    I had a 1979 four door and a two door. For some odd reason this version always had my heart. Nothing wrong with the Ford Crownvic, just would rather have a newer Chevy Caprice. :)

    Just drive either a Pontiac G8 or a Chevy SS both Holden Comodores. Its not a G8 it is a Statesman Caprice which is longer than the G8 and is the luxury vehicle of Holden

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a long wheel base Commodore, so yeah its a G8 or SS.

    • @cvpiDOTnet
      @cvpiDOTnet ปีที่แล้ว

      Well here in the US we compare the models we have/had, the 2011 to 2013 Caprice PPV is based on the Pontiac G8 and what the Caprice interior is shared with. It is very common to swap a G8 console into a 2011 to 2013 Caprice PPV to make it like a 9C3. As for the 2014-2017 Caprice PPV, the interior is cheaper version of the Chevy SS and many people have swapped out 14-17 Chevy SS interiors into their Caprice. Only issue with these swaps as a full interior cannot be swapped as the rear doors, carpet and headliner are short wheel base.
