    The tuning forks are for radar speed systems. You ring the fork and hold it in front of the antenna, and the system should display the speed stamped on the fork. If it does not, the radar system needs to be recalibrated.

    The tuning fork is struck in front of the radar unit to confirm that the unit is accurate at the speed shown on the fork. This is more accurate than pushing the calibration button. Many depts require the accuracy to be checked w/ the fork before and after every shift where radar is to be used. Often, the lazier officers skip this step and this is a way some people get out of a ticket. Bill in Renton, Wa

    Here in the Middle East they are very popular. We had the Holden version starting from 2000 to 2017 as an alternative for the American Caprice that got discontinued in 1996. You should try the higher trims like the SS they’re basically a luxurious Corvette 😊

  • @1spunkymonkey2
    @1spunkymonkey2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The really nice thing about the pre 2015 Caprices is you can put Middle Eastern market Caprice or Pontiac G8 interior parts in it if you want to complete and civilianize the interior. The 2015-2017 cars have a much better looking interior but are more difficult to do as there is a column shifter to relocate and you would have to use SS Sedan parts which are stupidly expensive

      Hey there Pat. Always nice to hear from you and it was super cool of you to leave that comment on the Cars and Bids site too. I'm genuinely humbled. As for the auction, it closes in a few hours, the bidding is at $5500 currently and it's at no reserve so there better be some bidders that step-up really, really soon. At $5500 I'm getting close to a break-even point but I know the car is worth about another $1500 more so fingers crossed!

    Welcome back, Chris! Great vid on the PPV, wish I could make a bid! I've seen your other comments about the Crown Vic, and while I'd like to see the story on it, I get that you don't want to make a vid on it. I've bought some master mistakes in the past, and just got rid of them before anyone knew about it!! Glad to see you making videos again and was wondering if you were selling everything!

      @hullinger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bud, thanks for the comment and the checking in. And when you said 'Master Mistake", yeah, that's exactly what that Vic was. But I kinda see it as a learning curve. What not to do next time. I'm gonna try making a video on that Vic and see if I'm just being too harsh or if it really is a giant turd. And I'm glad to be back making videos again. I took a break for a bunch of reasons that ranged from my four kids doing at-home school now until their school building reopens, to just hating TH-cam. Doing that Caprice video kinda got me excited to share and create again. Thanks again!

Well that Vic is worse! Way, way worse. It deserves it own video but dang I'm embarrassed by that car.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hullinger
      Yeah, I did see that green car. But I figured it was the Jag, and this was old footage.
      I was watching on my phone, and forgot to set the resolution to 1080p, so the default was 480p, so I just saw a green blob.
      How's the construction on your new garage on that open plot of land? That's what I was hoping to see after this long wait.

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awww man, that garage idea I had is a far ways away. Might be a year or two into the future. I did almost buy a little piece of land about 40 minutes away and deep into farm country here. Just a half acre but it was zoned that allowed me to do anything I wanted on it. Plus, and this was the best part, there was a billboard on the property that paid $500 per month. It was like buying the land and getting all my money back after 8 years. I was a few days too late in getting an offer in and I still kick myself for not seeing the listing a week earlier. Otherwise, that sweet little grassy lot would have been mine, ALL MINE!

  • @cvpiDOTnet
    @cvpiDOTnet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My DOD failed at 48,242 about ten days after the warranty expired for age and I just did all the extra mods you mentioned in the video. So yeah, there is no set mileage on what mileage it can fail at. Also, mine was ordered with everything working and did not have a cage, lightbar or push bar which is good. Bought it in 2013 with 16k miles and it now has 55k miles, it is not a daily driver.

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Such a great comment and thanks so much for sharing. It seems the DOD is an issue just waiting to happen. It's super lousy that you had so few miles on your car but super cool that you got your car with so few miles. Incredible!

      @@hullingeryou could enjoy the Holden experience by rebadging them to Holdens (this car in Australia is called the Holden Statesman). The most prevalent Holden rebadge though is that on the Chevy SS (that car in Australia is called the Holden Commodore).
      But the craziest conversion to a Chevy SS or a Pontiac G8 is being being done by a company in Denver called Left Hand Utes. They import Holden Ute bodies from Australia and marry them to the internals of a SS or G8, thus one can get a Holden Ute pickup truck! For those who want to experience the El Camino experience and own a Holden in the US without the 25-year rule, this is the one to get!

      Thanks man for checking in. I'd LOVE to get an authentic, real deal Holden here, but it just can't happen until the cars 25 years old. There are folks here that take the Caprice PPV and over time convert it to a Holden by buying all of the unique and special Holden parts from AUS and adding them to their car. That is, everything but the right hand drive.

    • @brett_hall
      @brett_hall 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve seen some examples of the Chevy SS and Caprice PPV converted back into Holden’s. Interestingly the Caprice PPV was never used for police work in Aus, it was for export only. Police here used the Commodore only. In Aus the Caprice was sold as the top of the line long wheelbase luxury model. Most were sold as Luxury hire cars like the Lincoln Towncar in the USA. Unfortunately no more local production of cars here since 2017, such a shame.

      Why, yes that IS a Crown Vic in the driveway. That car is an utter mess and I bought it sight-unseen. It was wildly misrepresented and I got wildly screwed on it, but then again that's how some of these auctions go. There are so many issues with that car and I'm not really sure what I even want to do with it and if I even want to put any $$$ into it. I'm somewhere around $1200 into it just getting it home. It's a 1994 LX model with 48K miles on the odometer but the condition of the car makes me think it's more like 248K miles. Jeesh! That turd definitely deserves it's own video that I'll make shortly and you'll see up close just how bad it is. Stay tuned!

      Hey there Stoker Don! I forgot to mention in the video that my Caprice is a 9C1 model. The Detective model 9C3's have a much nicer interior with carpeted floors, center console and some other nicer touches and commands at least a 30% premium over the 9C1's.

      @@hullinger The Chevy Caprice; the only true police vehicle ever made. There was the 9C1 the patrol model, the 9C3 the detective model and the 9C6 the taxicab model. The biggest mistakes made on the Caprice was that DOD and when they stop making it. The car had enough room for two full size officers with their gear plus radios, computers and weapons with a smooth ride.

    You should never buy a General Motors Holden made police car. The workers on the assembly line always knew when it was a cop car and made them as badly as they could get away with.
    The city of Elizabeth (where the factory was located) has the highest crime rate in South Australia and there was a lot of local resentment for the police.

    Regards to your family...hope that the USA will open for europen travellers soon and i can reach my motorycles in the US and in Canada again

      Hi there Frank. It's always great to hear from you. On that Caprice, you're soo right about the DOD system. What a mess and a very expensive repair too when it breaks. I was thinking about you the other day as there's more talk here about another quarantine and thought how much I missed you coming to the US for your motorcycle adventure. That would have been great to meet and hang out for the day. It's interesting to read what you said about what germans think of our new president. I am surprised that this makes news elsewhere.
