Lovely video with helpful tips on getting started. I've an allotment and plant lots of flowers amongst the veg. This year I'm going to be sowing lots more flowers, larkspur, calendula, poppies, cornflowers, cosmos, daliahs, zinnia and lots of flowering herbs. I love all the colour and attracting beneficial insects for the veg. Flowers bring so much joy and lift the spirits, can't wait to get sowing again 🎉😊

I’ve “winter sown” larkspur, sweet peas, snap dragons, poppies, plus several more varieties. I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll make it!🤞🏻

A very welcome video on a cold dark day. ❤ I might try the snapdragons and larkspur, although I've never planted either before. Thanks!

I have a similar last frost date to you. I started snapdragons & sweet peas today. It will be interesting to see if mine grow as well as yours.

Hi Sarah, great video. I have sowed some Osteospermum, Hollyhocks, Coreopsis and Lavender this month. Will be sowing some snapdragons, gaillardia and Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy this week. I'm on a DIY made heated bench with sand and soil warming cable, at 18C base heat. Your compost looks good ! Best regards, David

Very nice! I had a diy heat bench just like yours a couple of years ago but I don’t have electricity anywhere near my greenhouses now. It’s nice to have some plants on the go again isn’t it!

Great video! I seem to have seed starting "block". My motto this year is "Work Smarter, Not Harder" and I've been starting snaps and stock in food take out trays and then pricking them out into 72 count trays. Kinda tedious! I've not had great germination or robust growth with soil blocking. I've had the blocks "mash potato" before and its such a bummer so I'm fretting over which recipe to use if I go that route. While yammering to my dear mama (97 yo this month!) I realized when I pinch the snaps I can root those tops and so if the soil blocks aren't fully germinated I'll have plenty to plant so I think I'll just soil block....or should I just do the trays....oy !!

I sometimes find soil blocking a little tricky too! I think it requires some practice to get it right. Good idea about rooting the snaps! I’ve never done it myself but maybe I should try it!
