Respectfully, let’s stop using the term “unborn.” A living baby in the womb is not “un” anything. Let’s replace the term with “preborn”. This far more accurately describes the living state of the baby and better exposes the terrors of abortion.

I like "preborn" because it implies that the baby is already alive, just waiting until its birthday.

I am listening to this after recently hearing a video by Dinesh D'Sousa where he opined that the pope has always been a voice of the Church to the world, but that Francis has acted as the voice of the world to the Church. I thought that was a very thought provoking and perhaps accurate description and could explain his choices of Bishops to be promoted to Cardinal, his dislike of certain prelates and ways of thinking. It could confirm which (F,f)ather he is listening to. However, if we are looking for ways to fight for unity and believe God is working through him, It is entirely conceivable, that to bring the Church to the world, the current Pope believes we no longer know them and the present day Apostles must understand the lost sheep and therefore presenting their perspective and current beliefs to the Church as though they are its members is necessary, hence his actions as appearing to "bring the voice of the world to the Church." Truly we live in chaotic times, but still, I doubt that ""new" anything is needed even if the world THINKS it rejects God. Paul told us it would not be by persuasion but by the power of Christ working through His disciples that souls would come to believe. If we have the faith of a mustard seed....So once again, personal holiness seems to be most important and if the leadership is devoid of it, it is not too late to repent and do penance and get it because God WANTS our salvation. I would love to hear the Catholic Thing's perspective on this. This ties into your discussion because this thinking of the Pope would affect his thinking on abortion. There is a theory in parenting called extinction where a parent is advised NOT to notice the bad things a child does but only to emphasize the good. It is supposed the bad is a phase that will pass or will be overshadowed by the praise for the good until the child leaves that bad behavior. I am not sure what the experts have concluded about this theory but it is reminiscent of Paul's "think only of the good, the beautiful,..." This is something the prolife movement does have to confront and address in good faith. Are we pushing abortion by bringing it up so much? Would more lives be saved by extinction, using the resources for parenting classes, pre-cana classes, teen programs that bring out the good in the individual, organized holy hours? God bless.

Isn't it a sad statement that in today's church, clergy and bishops (direct 'descendants' of the Apostles) only feel comfortable speaking to Francis Maier anonymously? The Bishop Strickland affair exemplifies what happens to those who speak what they feel is the truth. Very depressing. I pray for the pope but in truth I feel something very bad is happening...

I think Francis was correct in his statement on the state of the Church in the USA and American bishops. We see decking attendance and participation in the life of the Church. To deny this reality is shortsighted. Vocations are not keeping up with retirements and deaths. Small religious communities are preparing for closing up shop.

I think that the primary concern, issue, and problem of the Catholic Church has been and is the lack of sufficient quality of its Senior Leadership. Let's face it, "A leader without followers is simply, somebody out for a walk - alone." The question is: Are, and have been, the US leaders of the Catholic Church, more "scattering" or "gathering?" Please Reply

@@TowleRay i agree. Too many of the status quo in America were selected by Law, Burke and Vagano for their leanings not their shepherding skills.

Wouldn't the Vatican have to appoint priests to the position of bishop? It's my experience that in the US the younger priests (insulted by Francis - which is a badge of honor in my book) are definitely JPII fans - or even Pius XII. I sometimes go to a "progressive parish" and the priest there is 65 - the men under 40 I don't think would fit the progressive category. But what should we expect - a Jesuit from Argentina was bound to the most modernist pope in history. And Pius X commented that modernism was "the sum of all heresies." Amen.

It is well known that there is a chasm between U.S Catholic Church leaders and a large majority of U.S. Catholic laity. And there is apparently no expectation that this alienation will be addressed.

Evangelization in the Church has been lacking without any desire to change the trend. This is in direct contradiction of the gospel. Until the direct approach is made the Church attendance will suffer. We’ve chosen to intellectually ignore the obvious by coming up with slogans and programs that reinvent the wheel.

This video mentions the trans issue. The catechism 2477 and 2478 talks about what 1 Tim 6:5 calls the sin of evil suspicion. We are to take the best possible meaning of what a person says. This is called charity and is consistent with Jesus’ command to love our neighbor.
If using our teaching above when we read his answer to the dubia in transgender baptism and godparents, we see he said nothing changes for these people. Then he goes on and says neither can be done if it causes scandal (also a Catechism term). Scandal is saying or making sin acceptable.
Is it correct then to say he is teaching that trans people can be baptized? If active trans people are baptized, that is baptizing sin and would be scandal. This is against Catholicism. A change. How can it be true then to say he wants to baptize active trans people if that is a change and he said there is no change? There is a logical leap here that is the sin of evil suspicion.
He is talking about inactive trans people, detransitioners. That is the only way to see this.

This is part of theology studies and Im not sure why some in clergy are not practicing it with our own Supreme Pontiff. Criticism should be based on truth, not interpreting his statements as the worst case scenario. We need to put our teachings into practice or we are no better than Protestantism, making whatever we feel is righteousness as a self-created dogma.
If we listen to our Supreme Pontiff in charity as we are taught, we will have unity. Otherwise, people are led astray through an actual “program to undermine the doctrine of faith”. Im using Supreme Pontiff because the Canon Law 751 uses it.
Pope Francis can easily be used against leftists rather than give the leftist a false sense Pope Francis was fully with them. He is with them as far as they abide by church teachings. He has excommunicated leftists. He is with us on the right in his writings. If we were less divisive, our people would be in his inner circle. We complain about the people surrounding him not understanding how wrong we are. You cannot say he wants to bless sin when he added to Magisterium on 3/01/2021 that sin cannot be blessed and it was in the context of homosexual acts. Cardinal Victor Fernandez interviewed with Lifesite News on 9/30/23 and affirmed this was still an active teaching. They held that article for over three weeks and on 10/19/23 were still accusing him of wanting to teach blessing sin is ok. That simply is not true. We call leftist news organizations that do this fake news. Right?

So our Bishop’s are weak and afraid, this is not a good sign for the future of our church. If they are embarrassed to stand up for Jesus, then Jesus won’t stand up for them.
