      @@oldschoolautoupholstery I most certainly will keep watching! I have been watching all your previous videos multiple times and picking up bits of information each time. It has really helped me while I struggle along doing the upholstery in my street rod. It's my first ever time doing upholstery in anything, but thanks to you, I found the courage to try and, though it's slow going, it's turning out great. I'm amazing myself...I didn't think I could do it. I finished up the last seat last night...the bottom front...and I hope to Install it to the seat frame today. (Hope it fits!! LoL). I started with the rear seat first because it wouldn't be so noticable, but it's actually great with perfectly straight pleats! (Again, thanks to your guidance in the videos) I have to tackle the headliner at some point. I hope you do a video on a sewn headliner before I do. (Hint, hint).

    Nice job sir! I worked my way thru college in the 70's working at an auto trim shop in upstate NY. A large part of my job was removing and replacing vinyl tops for dealers and body shops. Your technique in dealing with removals is spot on to what I was taught. Ford trim was always a bit of a pain, especially for the rear window vinyl that was applied under the rear glass about 50% of the time. It was very wise of you to avoid pulling the windshield trim! One false move and crack!

    • @oldschoolautoupholstery
      @oldschoolautoupholstery  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Chessie, Thank you so much for saying so. I know I missed it, but really, the rear window band just gets glued on. If I remember right, the 1/2 top roof trim is screwed on from underneath which requires partial removal of the headliner. The big problem, is Ford used a cotton thread to sew up the headliners and sometimes the seams just fall apart. Then you would have to resew all the headliner seams before reinstallation. @oldschoolautoupholstery  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Slim, Thank you so much for saying so. I got lucky and all of the original clips survived. The rear quarter clips were metal push in. The clips under the rear window were plastic. Aveco brand is a good manufacturer of replacement clips. Maybe found online or sometimes I have seen them at auto paint suppliers. Lastly, I used to get them at BD Co. in Denver, Colorado. I think you will do just fine with your '69 Lincoln. Please keep liking and watching!

      Hello Deano, It sound like your a person with some glue removing experience. For pad, you can use landau pad or also called closed cell foam in 1/8" or 1/4 inch. Can also be found at some upholstery suppliers. I think you will do just fine with your '71 T-bird! Please keep liking and watching!

    Someone, I thought it was you (but I may be mistaken) said not to youse black Sharpie markers because it can bleed through over time. Is that only on leather, or does that also include vinyl? If you didn't say that, please tell me your thoughts about markers on leather.

    Great job. I'm doing my 1988 Brougham with padding, which is now glued perfectly on the roof using same Weldwood glue but it sticks quick not allowing any adjustments. How do I avoid that issue when laying the vinyl to be able to adjust it as you did on top of the padding? I waited 10 minutes for drying time.
    Thanks.

      Hello Jake, The only thing I can think of is the glue reactivating the paint would be cheap paint. Automotive paint usually has an activator to make it hard, or lacquer which dries quickly.
