    For all the problems Anthem has, its Javelin customization system was better than it had any right to be. I think infinite should take a page out of Anthems book, and allow us to choose colors from a color wheel, change the materials of individual armor pieces, make decals and coatings separate from armor color, customize the under suit, and let us choose a wear state.

    they should look at warframe. warframe sells you different color sets but you are the one choosing how to use the colors. basically everyone gets the same starting colors which can be applied to your main color, secondary color and tertiary colors (you can also color accents and such) if you want the other cooler colors you can buy different sets of colors or earn them through events. Halo couldve done this and had premium color sets be color sets for patterns and such. or have both color and pattern sets as seperate things. they had so many option but the went the most limiting route... i look like veryone else in this game and that is crazy.

    For me, it's the fact that my Spartan is meant to represent myself as a Spartan. You can see what armor and colors I always use, and always try to copy through the games. The removal of this customization really disappoints me, as I identify with my Mk V in camouflage green (typically olive) and black or steel.

    • @UNSCpilot95
      @UNSCpilot95 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I feel the same way! I've always chosen the Pilot variants colored green then dark green in each game since it goes with my gamertag and my love of flying in real life. You can tell a lot of each players' personality by their gamertag, armor, and armor colors and there were many friends that I could recognize by just their armor. Slim armor, female spartan, Recon helmet, and entirely purple? That's Jimmy. Reach was my favorite since I think it gave us the best way to *choose* what we wanted to be. Everything we did in the game contributed currency to buy whatever armor pieces we thought were cool. Great video!

I hope they don’t use money to lock customization because being able to have super cool customization by doing objectives and/or saving up your credits. This game means a lot to all of us and all I wish is for 343 to redeem themselves and make themselves a commonly wide company to be talked about in a really good way and to make this game the best halo game new and old players have seen.

    This conversation was started with Halo 5's launch, since you couldn't customize your colors properly then either (a similar system to Infinite's, ironically, but at least they didn't sell those). An update allowed Spartans to change their armor colors properly as it remains now.

  • @Alpha_Synergy
    @Alpha_Synergy ปีที่แล้ว

    It was always really fun to customize my armor in Halo, and to bring my spartan in line with the character I created over time. Teal main color, white secondary color, green tertiary color where available, and a green visor if available. For the armor, I always go with CQB when I can, or similar style helmets when not; bulky left shoulder that acts like a shield, tiny shoulder on the right to stay out of the way of shouldering a gun; a knife somewhere if available; a computer interface if possible; and a cybernetic right arm. I have a whole story for the character, going from Reach to Infinite, and reasons why his armor changed over time (started out in Reach, sat out the events of 1 by being trapped under the mountains of Reach, pulled out and recovered during the events of 2, then back in action for 3 with new armor due to the old style no longer being in service. After 3, he became an armor and weapons designer, helping to create and test the new arsenal for the new wave of spartans. Finally, he was called back into the front lines to fight the Banished, and as such he was able to finally get the remains of his old mark 5-B armor restored- with a few modifications and things he learned over the years to improve the set.) The issues I have with Infinite all stem from the FOMO and the coating system. For the coating system, a proper teal and white coating simply doesn't exist for Mk. 5-B, and the closest I can get is the standard teal. As for the FOMO, I have repeatedly missed out on pieces I would have loved to use, such as the emerald green visor that was an event item, and (at time of writing) is thus unavailable unless by some miracle it comes back in a different event. I also can't get into the cool Fracture armors since I wasn't there for most of them. I really hope they can fix things eventually, but I won't hold my breath.

  • @TheZamaron
    @TheZamaron 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Customization is very important to me. I like to find a certain look and keep it. Like in Destiny 1, I went with the Vanguard themed armor set, storywise since my Guardian is just starting out, I wear the armor as a show of respect and loyalty to the Vanguard. Meanwhile in Destiny 2, I stuck with wearing default starting armor and even got the damaged version you get from the 2nd mission updated to a higher level by reacquiring it from the collection. Now I'm just waiting for them to add in Transmog so I can turn my armor into an ornament I can equip onto new armor piece. I've played alot and never really see anyone wearing the complete set of armor., maybe a few pieces from random drop, but never the entire set, so I guess I might be unique in this. I even found a load out I like, not the best but it works. Even came up with a lore reason why I use certain weapons. In Halo I decided to stick to using an armor set that shows up in every game, or at least it's updated variants. Even came up with a whole unique backstory for my Spartan, Ken-110. I chose this number cause 10 is my favorite number, and it kinda sounds good.

    My issue with the armor coatings is that the developer gets to choose how my spartan looks. I have little control over my spartan's colors because they wanted materials? My spartan uses an uncommon color scheme, and i'm concerned that i would have to fork out money just to look like me.

    I definitely feel it's important for the magic mirror aspect. I've online friends I've known for years I met largely through Halo and even though I know what most of them look like in real life, seeing their respective helmets in each game reminds me of them. Even through my own armor combinations, like when I see players using the same helmet I feel a faint sense of camaraderie knowing at some level we share similar tastes. It's a small aspect of the game in terms of overall gameplay for sure but it's one of the largest when it comes to emotional investment and honestly at least for me overall enjoyment. A big reason I didn't play halo 5 as much as the previous games was because of how comparatively limited the customization was. I genuinely enjoyed the gameplay unlike most but it was the fixed armor sets and emblems that drew me away overtime. That said I am a fashion conscious person in real life so that probably plays into how I view games as well.

    cosmetic rewards can make any game fun if they have permanent fun challenges that anyone can acheive with enought hard work without fomo, like reaching a certain ranl or beating the campaign quickly, or on a hard difficulty. The shame with mcc's challenges compared to halo 3's is so many of the challenges overlap so the armours lack meaning, the challenges themselves focus on bad behaviours (stealing kills instead of focusing on winning the game) or have challenges that disapear at the end of the season.

      That simply wouldn't work. If the content isn't on your system, then you won't see other people's coatings, therefore, they would have less of an incentive to show off your armor and colors. That's just not how games work, man.
      They already said they built the coating system to take up less space than other systems.

    • @OhanaJohan
      @OhanaJohan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ChaKasism here’s the quote from Inside Infinite from December about coatings.
      “Yes, the coating system is something that the Live team and our 3D artists designed directly after Halo 5 and is part of the overall customization picture. In previous Halo titles, we had a series of inputs that were simple RGBs in primary and secondary channels. For Halo Infinite, we didn’t feel that flat colors in a singular pattern were good enough.
      The coating system allows us to define color, wear and tear, patterns, and materials on a region-by-region basis on the Spartan or anything in the game be it armor, weapons, vehicles, or even environment elements like fuel barrels. To get to our design vision we needed to make an exceedingly difficult decision to move away from a system that was in the game from early days - primary and secondary color. This decision was not made lightly, but it has laid the foundation for greater detail and variation when it comes to color customization.
      In addition to getting better variation, we can also create coatings much faster than we could create weapon skins in Halo 5, which will allow for even better variation over time. Additionally, with coatings now being their own customization option, we can also use them as rewards for player accomplishments or even create bespoke ones for certain occasions. Lastly, coatings use smaller digital footprint and let us add new ones to the game without massive patches or taking up tons of disk space, which was a learning from Halo 5.”
      Also for future reference, if you are storing something, it’s storage, not memory. Memory is for things like RAM and whatnot, short term stuff.

For years now I’ve been waiting for halo to introduce a color wheel and letting us change the colors of each individual armor piece. Maybe even introduce a emblem creator like the older call of duty’s. Doom 2016 actually let’s you change the texture and weathering of your armor without taking away the ability to choose colors. If 343 had done that, we’d actually be able to create our dream Spartans/Elites. But with every step forward 343 takes, they take a step back

    The way I see it is like this. I think the shader/pattern system is going to be an okay system. The reason is because there's going to be an intricate balance between cosmetics that you just buy and cosmetics you earn through your own sweat and work. I think that shaders are still going to be able to be used to shape player identity as well as cause a separation between players who dedicate themselves to the game via multiplayer or campaign and the players who simply just buy cosmetics. Bragging rights for certain ones will still be super relevant and as long as they don't have a battle pass, I think it'll work out. Think about Titanfall 2's cosmetic system for instance. I think if it works like that things will be alright. My main hope is that armor itself stays free to earn but the shaders are the monetized part

    i think the coatings could be a great thing if they had a simple mechanic like "primary and secondary" coloring patterns, like the pattern they create will have its "default" setting, maybe being very unique colors and shades of colors, but you could change them with very basic coloring systems from prior games, allowing for player control AND allowing them to be able to monetize and create great sets of coatings. for example, lets say a coating has a unique color you cant get with the primary colors you have in prev titles, like a shimmering gold or a rustic steel. which could be more appealing to the players, but the coating can be altered with its patterns having a primary and secondary option that if accessed, would allow you to keep the design, but not the special coloring. you could restrict this by making the option a "turn on or off" feature. where if you want to use the coating pattern, you'd have to turn "on" the coloring system which in turn would get rid of all the special colors the default setting has. this way players cant just mix and match the primary and secondary colors with the special ones the default coating has. this would also help 343 with not having to create color combinations constantly that players may not like. like for instance someone has a color scheme they have used since halo 2 and it's their staple. but there werent any coatings that had their combination or they found one they didn't like but it was their only option. you'd be able to make players happy as well as have your own artistic flair in creating the coatings and painting them in a special way the developer wanted. like painting with a color you cant get with default colors. and thus someone would find something you made and they loved that they would keep as their choice coating. i see it as a win win in the scenario stated above

    Your videos are so sophisticated and well thought out. Meticulously explaining the history of what came before and how it compares to what Halo Infinite is going to have. You explain it better 343 themselves. Really appreciate your input on the franchise.
    I understand micro transactions are part of the industry and 343 is trying to make it more appealing but I don't like being locked into a particular color. What if you want a certain pattern but in a different color? It shows a Spartan with a red arm, what if you want just a red bicep? That option might not exist. You can no longer customize your armor exactly how you want but rather how the developers want it. Some players have had a certain look throughout their entire Halo career and now some of those looks will no longer be available.
    Furthermore, armor used to be unlocked through accomplishing goals. It was a testament to a players skill. Respectable. Now you get armor from buying a bag of chips. Meaningless.
    Also I hate all the neon, Polk-a-dot, Mountain Dew rush, crazy day-glow color schemes. It really ruins the immersion of being in the Halo universe. I wish we could just turn all that stuff off. Like let players customize how they want, but give me the option to make it all invisible from my perspective.

Have an anime style grunt plastered across armor for 2.99 while classic Mk. V helmet unlocked at staff sargent.

    I think customization is important it helps us distinguish ourselves from others imagine everyone having to drive the same car the same color where would the fun be in that?
