VMAC Generator Head Replacement

  • VMAC Multifunction provides 8kw AC at 110, 220, and even 3 Phase / DC 12, 24, 36, 48 volt; 250 amps of welding current; 45 cfm of air, and 8 gallons per minute of hydraulic fluid off a pump on the PTO. Product support is also great, but I'm hoping we just got a lemon of a generator head, because nothing should die after just 20 hours.

    The company I worked for (retired now) started equipping our mobile repair trucks with VMACs. We had nothing but trouble with ours, including things like fuel caps that allowed rainwater to flood the diesel tank, electrical systems that drained the battery even if the machine was turned off, etc.. The manufacturer would not return our calls or emails, and when I retired the company (a major U.S. railway company) had announced that they’d never buy another one! Couldn’t keep them running for love nor money!

    • @SVSeeker
      @SVSeeker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think they can be faulted for a Kabota engine and I really doubt they make the generator head either. And I selected the hydraulic pump which they did not make. They also don’t make the electric clutches. I’m not sure what we can fault them with. Have also answered the phone every time I called, I rarely wait on hold. And they answer my emails. I think I just got a lemon generator head nothing more. And I am glad they stood behind it as best they could.

Nice to see VMac supporting their product after 6 years.. lots of builders stop carrying parts for "obsolete" equipment after only 5 years. Those padeyes are paying dividends, maybe add a few pre made blanks from scrap steel for the inevitable ones you'll want to add later in cargo hold and elsewhere for hammocks or pipe cots etc ?

    Ouch, got my finger when sharpening the blades on the mower deck a couple months ago, not too different for a bleed out from yours. Took a nail to the head a couple weeks ago while trying to move the trash can around and load shingles into it, tripped and fell into the can with a board and the head of a nail taking it's fee in flesh.
    Anyway if you ever need a hand with something heavy drop a line, I can bring my pickup and help get a few more things out that way as well. I'm not that far away and usually can hold a project for a day or so. Roof is waiting for a day with a lot less wind for me to finish up another section right now but that could be tomorrow or Monday. Then it's the waiting game again for another section after which 1/2 of the roof or about 1000 sq feet will be brand new.
    Anyway Merry Christmas and hopefully things go good for you and everyone out that way.

    • @kj3n569
      @kj3n569 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As a 32 year electrician I agree on separating the ground and neutral, especially on a motor that is going to run with differing loads. When I started it was code compliant to run the return through the ground. The reason for the neutral was partially due to digital readout panels getting burned by a backfeed through the ground to the device. A good example is home dryers and oven ranges, both of which now require a neutral, hence a 4 prong connection point. It'll work without it, but it's a simple fix to future problems to add it now, especially since there's no telling what kind of backfeed may come through the ground. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

      My dad told me that after a career as an engineer at Kohler Engines he learned that most engineers design the right solution to the problem but then the bean counter accountants and legal team come in and tell the engineering team to cheapen the design to make the profit side of the product meet their goals. Of course the end user has to face the consequences of these business practices.
