My grandmother was living alone (granddad passed) well into her 90s, she used to walk 1km up the beach and swim 1km back everyday summer and winter (Australia but still cold) along with tending to a large garden, she moved into a home at 93 when she got diagnosed with dementia. Once she lost her freedom she was dead in 8 months, sad to see her fall away so quick
I'm 74 now....minor stroke 7 years ago resulting in blindness in my right eye, the lack of depth perception made me retire from the tennis court, but I have always mowed my yard by hand...with a push mower. Salute! :^)
Long time fan of the channel ... just had an idea while watching the prop removal ... why not 3D print insert plugs to stick into the Allen head bolts on the props to prevent growth from filling the bolt holes? It might save you some real aggravation if a barnacle decides to make a home inside of one of the bolt holes!!!
Continuing to admire all you have achieved Doug - looks like near ready to set sail. Will be wishing a big safe bon voyage and look fwd to future episodes. Stay safe.
Use 3 or 4 walls with 20% infill this will quicken your print time and make strong parts, also printing 5° to 10° hotter on the nozzle helps layer adhesion ALOT
In the Navy we use to have deck spotlight that shone what we called "moon light". This allowed us to see at night without using red lights whilst not destroying our night vision. Maybe a thought for seekers deck down lights?

Well, I have news for you. I go up and down the companion way at least 40 times a day. I do have an elevator lift built into the forward Convenient Way, so when I get too old for the ladder, I can use that.
Hull scraping... Everyone hates it. If it was fun, Doug, you wouldn't have put it off for 5 months... and I wouldn't have avoided scraping my 93' steel boat for the past 60 days.. Good episode. You are my favorite sea-going Okie. ( I grew up in SE Kansas and escaped to FL at 50) When you get to the east side of the state, we'll be around if you need some assistance.
No, you don’t want to clean when you’re not going anywhere. That just helps remove the antifouling. And puts you further behind on the projects you’re ou need to get out of the way before you can go somewhere.
You casting Seeker's propeller blades is what started me watching this channel. I was going through and watching metal casting videos about bronze casting and the blades were suggested. The shape was really complex and looked difficult to cast from what I know at the time, so I clicked. Then I found out that the boat you were working on was not in some marina on the coast and it was a lot bigger of a project than I was expecting. That got me into also watching Tally Ho being rebuilt and a couple of other nautical channels that have taught me a lot about how brutal an environment the ocean is for materials and people. Making a boat out of fiberglass now just sounds like suicide with its properties. Wood has better resistances to falling apart under those conditions when it's the right kind and maintained correctly. Steel is even better and with modern coatings is definitely the right choice for any vessel that isn't really concerned about hull weight.
Well Doug i am 70 been retired 10 years this Christmas and never been so busy. I fix things someone gave me a Honda ride on mower well i fixed it and still using it . Stuff pushing a mower when i have a ride on. 😂 i can find a lot of other things to keep me active and in the shed. Just spent the last 3 days fixing a manafacturs crap system to wind the roof up on my inlaws camper trailer that had failed. Its now better than new. Also getting my 4 wheel drive and off road camper ready for a 6 week remote trip out in the bush . We are off up to the Pilbara in western Australia. Ps love what you are doing with the 3D printer

If the weld looks like a fat worm, you need to slow down your wire feed speed. You'll use less wire and grind a lot less. Recommended settings for welders are just a starting point. You gotta experiment and not be afraid to mess with your settings. If at all possible, get your settings dialed in on a piece of scrap, then move on to the project. Good job with all your endeavors!
I outfitted my shop cabinets with those LED lights! I hard wired mine in sets of two, off of old cellphone 5v wall chargers. Great little lights for drill press/ cabinets or under counters and shelves. I really wish mine had motion sensors but they still work.

for the supports: there is a setting called "manual supports" or "support enforcers only" it lets you paint the model with L & R clicks where you specifically want supports and where you don't want them, very handy when you have a steep overhang that needs it but sloping sides that don't really. also, when you have a very flat overhang, I find the easiest way to remove them is to get a small snap blade and slice down right through the interface layer, go on both sides and the supports will pull right out. for that model specifcally I would reccomend redesgning it so it can print on its long side, this has 2 benefits: 1) the part will be stronger in the critical directions, as 3d printed parts are weakest in Z 2) it will print faster! layer height is the biggest factor in terms of time for a print, so always try to make your parts wider and deeper instead of taller if possible.

Man, taking those sharp steel scrapers to the paint seems like asking for trouble. But I've never never had a boat, so what do I know. I would assume that taking the boat up a river once in a while would help kill all the saltwater critters that are growing down there. I know the hard stuff won't fall off even if it dies, but at least it would stop it from growing.

You know, most ships bells are rigid and have a lanyard hanging from the clapper that you can make fast so you only ring it when you need to. You have all the fixin's on board to modify that. Make a rigid connection from the arm on the pivot to the bell mount. Drill and tap the clapper lower end and put a screw eye in it. Run a bungie cord to the bottom of the clapper to securing point somewhere below the bell. Well, just my $.02....

@@Дрондроныч-ю4б Turns out they are Atlantic Spade Fish. I like Prison Fish better.
Sup Doug, some turn on/turn off magnets as boat underwater boat handles wouldnt be such a bad idea.
Maybe, but they would slow you down too.
She's a pretty little ship.
Довольно маленький у вас в штанах , Корабль не может быть маленьким , на то он и Корабль ...
Knock the corners off those scrapers will do a lot to save your paint.
I did
😎
Doug, look for some Propspeed, the best antifouling for props and shafts in the world.
I’ll try it but they sure are proud of it.
Will be on vacation on June 7-10 and on a friends loaner boat on the 8th at sailboat cove/ Ft McCray. As a long time subscriber and admirer of the channel, I had hoped to see SV Seeker in person at anchor or sailing through the pass. What is your departure schedule?
So sorry. We are pulling anchor tomorrow.
@@SVSeeker Roger that. Fair winds and all . Will continue to follow. Enjoy content and just completed a house shutter build. THanks for inspiration.
Скажите пожайлуста , где вы в море перевал нашли ? Или это ошибки перевода ...
Do you think you would take Seeker to the Sail Amsterdam festival next year?
No, but I would like to see Ansterdam.
@@SVSeekerДуг , уж лучше на фестиваль " Алые паруса " в Санкт - Петербург в следующем году в России , добро пожаловать 😊 всё по пути ...
Cool video, can't believe he found his flippers 😂
Did you get a new camera?
No, just using an old GoPro. And he got lucky. That bottom is pure silt.
Well, did y'all catch Moby Dick yet or what?! Safe travels my friend!
Not yet. I still need to put the line in the water. ...but I'll get there. Thanks again for the pole.
You find the neatest gadgets. Are those lights on Amazon?
Yes: Stick up Motion Light: amzn.to/3wXyjBC
@@SVSeeker Thank you.
You want the bell 2 inches higher? Wait for high tide then measure it. lol
Ага ) попробуй так свой член измерить 😂
Have you considered using a pressure washer to clean the hull?
I have. That’s getting higher on the list. I still need a wire it in.
@@SVSeeker Very cool; looking forward to seeing if it works... I should be less destructive.
How far up the east coast are you going?
Until we decide to turn around and go south. :-)
Id agree with you on the pushmowing if they made a 50 inch pushmower or it didnt take me 4 hrs with a normal pushmower, ill take those 3 hrs i save with a zero turn and use it to work on something i actually want to
Ha! I absolutely refuse to pay someone to mow my grass but I bought a ZTR because it's cool.
Those things do look like a lot of fun.
You encourage us to "get out there!" Naw. I like to take a day off once in awhile. ..there's no such a thang out on da wootah.
" Выйти " это не значтит , в мир иной ... 😄
I work out at work.
Those are the best jobs. I was ripped when I was digging ditches. Not at all when I was working in a cubicle.
If you’re weighing the blades before you switch them out, I’d be interested in knowing how much material is lost each time you refinish them and how many years it’ll be until they potentially need replacing
Not enough to sneeze at. They were balanced by grinding on them, and it took a lot more grinding.
Does that silicone bronze run DCEP?
Your floating castle 🏰
The rest of us are jealously onlooking while watching the government increase our property mil rate. Someday I’ll set sail like good ol’ Doug.
Spade Fish
At two acres if I didn't have a riding mower all my time would be mowing the lawn and no time in the shop.
But you would have legs and a heart that could pull a freight train. : )
I’m working on repairing an old army trailer and having a horrible problem with sputtering and the wire actually pushing back on the handle. I’ve checked my gas, my ground, and replaced expendables. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
I think that the wire speed is too high. Too slow and it will start burning up the tips.
I think you are right. I have a Yeswelder that is synergistic and does not have an independent wire speed control
I found the problem. I had a bad ground cable. I welded about 1/4 inch and looked over and the cable insulation was smoking and melted.
Just put on a new cable and new clamp. Welds are totally smooth and good looking.
Thanks
