    This lecture had two clips from the BBC programme 'Earth from Space' which were removed from the edit due to copyright issues.

    As for asteroid hitting earth, most people think we don't have much to do to check the devastation. We are fortunate, we have developed powerful laser technology that can shred an asteroid into pieces so when the enter the earth's atmosphere, they will have minimal effect. Recently a few satellites landed on some asteroids, where the laser can do what is needed.
