Fall Guys was big because it launched during COVID, but they never really introduced big gameplay changing maps or mechanics. Nail in the coffin was that all the cool outfits (the whole thing the game is about) became stingingly more expensive and not winnable by just playing the game. Every collab involved paid skins, and no earnable skins were added during some of those collabs.
no wonder it fell off. All they had to do was make new content like levels and gamemodes, let people grind for some unlockable skins, have some events every now and then, and the game would be relevant forever.
I thought it was free the whole time and they made money from skins but it was paid and they were monetizing like that on top of it?
The other side of the collab, the version you play in FF14, is amazing though, and all the stuff you get from it is easy to farm because you get a decent repeated amount of the currency for it even when you lose. It also legitimately makes players better at the game by cleverly reusing boss mechanics

I used to play Fall Guys every day, with a few breaks here and there, since release but the last year the devs effectively killed it. First they removed a lot of the great original maps in favour of community made maps. Then a few months ago they removed all original maps and game modes and left only community made maps and modes. The game is nothing like the one I purchased and absolutely sucks now.

stumble guys actually does updates and adds new maps, i remember fall guys had to wait multiple years before they even changed the maps and they removed most of them lmao, also like every1 has a phone and can play stumble guys

I think the main reason they winning is that they made the game available on literally everything, every platform and its free. My nephew wanted to play it with me but he plays on ipad I dont have ipad, and my niece plays with him on her moms android phone. I didn't want to install it on my phone so I tried through Steam thinking it probably wont work but nope no issues at all, 3 of us were able to team up and play together.

Used to play this as a family, my 5yo loved it. They completely ruined it in the last patch, we haven't touched it in months. Pretty sad.

This is what happened with Fortnite too. PUGB was huge, Fortnite added a Battle Royale mode to their free-to-play third person shooter tower defense game, it overtook the non-free-to-play PUGB pretty much overnight.
The original tower defense side of Fortnite isn't even free. I believe it's still $40 to this day.

This is literally Oreos all over again, but with video games. Oreos are milks favorite cookie even though they weren't the original and they were apparently worse they just had a marketing god on their side and managed to sell their oreos better than the original. Its insane.

I'm not even sure Stumble Guys is a worse game other than visuals. Seems like they're actually updating and adding new content and things to be excited for.

@@drcableusb after having played stumble I gotta say though that stumble guys gave me a skeletal pirate skin immediately where as fall guys has only given me a weird color palette for my character. That to me signifies that stumble guys is willing to keep it's fans closer.

Epic Games has the Reverse Touch of Midas: Everything that it gold that they touches turns immediately into sh*t.
Because epic can never win since it wasn't an early mover. Imagine being first to market and decades of momentum on your side. That is steam. It might be the worst kind of monopoly too because everybody has a huge digital library and so they are incentivized to hate any new competition, and they are biased against any new market. Personal investment is a hell of a motivator.

Epic games runs like trash no matter how strong your PC is, you can't change your pfp or personalize your profile page, there are no achivements, no user reviews, no community pages, no mods, steam also has the better customer support etc.
Epic barely has anything, and it's made by a corporation that is known for using exclusivity deals to compete instead of actually making their storefront better.

@@mahinkhan3708 Going free AFTER the fumble doesn't give any recovery. Heroes of Newerth was THE Moba during beta, along with LoL and Dota2. They put a $30 price tag on it on release and lost majority of its player base. They went Free-to-play a couple years later but the other Big 2 already took their stride.

Epic also pissed off people by turning their earned in game stuff worthless when they transitioned to f2p by introducing new monetisation.

I got it free on ps+ so I didn't pay but I got some free stuff for owning it already when it became f2p. They did convert all the crowns in my inventory to a pile of kudo's though (which are mostly useless now). There are still the exclusive skins you can get only by playing though

I tried stumble guys 1 year ago. First thing i noticed is the huge variety of gamemodes. They had a fps team deathmatch gamemode. I don't think fall guys can compete with the amount of content stumble guys gets every month. Add to that the fact that stumble guys is on mobile and its not even close.

In Fall Guys, you just run and hope to win. In Stumble Guys, there are attack emotes that give you the option to play with tactics. Its way more fun to punch someone off a ledge while trying to not get punched, yourself. One guy grabbed me and pushed me off the platform the other day. Another guy threw down a briefcase of money that ended up being like an oil slick.
Attack emotes are battle pass exclusive tho so its literally p2w

It’s mostly because of the mobile audience. Specially since it’s such a “minigame” that it doesn’t make sense turning on your pc or your PlayStation just to play it. It’s one of those games that is cool to play during a lunch break or when going to the bathroom

The "Forever Update" for Fall Guys was the most sabotaging change I've ever seen in a video game. Broke physics, broke maps, broke gamemodes, everything that was fun got removed.

The amount of collabs also don't speak well of FG.
I have a friend who used to constantly play FG, but it was pretty easy to tell how the game stopped being updated by adding new content.
While Stumble Guys just keeps adding new content and having tons of collabs.
FallGuys cope can only get you so far.
As someone who's played Fall Guys since the beta and has over 7500+ crowns, the game has fallen off hard. Buddies i've played with for years no longer play it as much as they did. Fall Guys also removed almost half of the levels in the game and most variations from existing levels. They also reduced the player count from 60 to 30. Terrible decision making all around.
So... Fall Guys is exclusive to Epic Games Store, meanwhile Stumble Guys is playable on PC and Mobile, and has more collab events...

I think it's because of how slow MediaTonic has been to updating the game. It has less content and has some bugs that have been slow for them to resolve. After Creative Came out we got even less verity in terms of themed levels created by the official devs. Jungle, Space and Ocean some of the last notable themed updates they had and that was well over a year ago now. What do we get now?
A slow drip of updates to Creative Mode, somewhat lackluster outfit additions and just more creative rounds that mostly all look the same. There's some stand outs but it definitely has felt stale for awhile now. Not being on Mobile isn't really helping either. :P

Yeah, Epic acquired them, removed the game from Steam, fired a bunch of people, and they basically haven't added anything new besides the battle passes in a long while.
It has plenty of variety in skins and collabs though. They even did a FF14 one
This is another case of how going free-to-play is very viable in the long run. I use to play a Moba called Heroes of Newerth. It was a lot more popular during beta compared to League of Legends and Dota2's beta. Release time comes and they put a whopping $30 price tag, player base dropped significantly. The other two major Moba games were free and the rest was history.

The decision to goes free to play is too late to take. LoL have took the MOBA initiative, and DotA2 instantly reap the OG DotA players.
Yeah, in online games, ecosystem need to be build first and F2P is a great tool to do that.

dota2s beta was WAY more popular, but HoN was only bigger than Leagues beta because HoN was handing out codes like candy as a marketing tactic and Riot forced a more closed beta.
@@LucifeRxGoSu No, HoN was way bigger during beta, it got surpassed by Dota2 after HoN was release with a price tag, players then flocked to Dota2 around mid 2010. HoN was dominating from 2009-2010. Dota2 beta was so popular they had to rerelease HoN as F2P in 2011 but it was too late.

The mobile game market is massive because everyone littrally has a mobile kids and adults have tablets and mobiles. Not everyone has consoles or pc so it's a no brainer it got a lot bigger than fall guys and everyone wants to sponsor it

Fall Guys vaulted most of their maps and for years you only played like 15-20 maps. Only like last year they included player made maps.

i was one of the early player of stumble guys and the biggest reason for its success is the community it made, they organized esports like a week after the release, people only stopped playing it when the developers got greedy and made the game pay to win. They introduced this punch emote which you could buy and it actually punched people, it was completely broken so a lot of players left.
This is like when you tell a joke to only your friend to test it and then your friend says it.

I'm surprised no one has picked up on the fact that the game became free-to-play and moved to Epic Games, and the online shows up in SteamDB where people bought the game on Steam, so I'm not surprised that there's less online on Steam than Stumble Guys. So I don't see how you can make such statements when we don't know how much online Epic Games has, when there are likely more players there than in Steam.

Fall Guys is mostly played on console & on PC exclusive on the Epic Games Launcher since it became F2P & Stumble Guys is mostly played on mobile while Fall Guys isn't even available on mobile so you can't just compare current player numbers on Steam between these two.
At 3:17 he is talking about Sponsorships & collaborations saying that Fall Guys had like 3 or 4 but that is just not true because Fall Guys had & has A TON of collabs like WWE, Spongebob, Kizuna Ai, Gears of War, Marvel, Sonic, Cuphead, Godzilla, Ghost Busters, Hatsune Miku, Invincible etc. etc. that are constantly changing almost daily.
Also the fact he stated about "It took forever to find a game" @ 6:27 is such a trust me bro statement because i started playing Fall Guys myself since last month due to my nephew playing it on his Switch & i NEVER had any problem finding a game neither on solo, duos or squad.
I don't know if the Steam version is different but there is also crossplay between all platforms so you will ALWAYS find a game fast.
Of course Stumble Guys is much more successful due to the fact it's available on mobile & Fall Guys just isn't.
It's only the playerbase in steam that's why Fall Guys has less people. Number should be higher on Epic since it's not available in the steam store.
It's almost like a casual game being on mobile is a good idea. Rip Fell Off Guys😂
