I trained with Sensei Morio Higaonna for a great many years. When a person trains with Higaonna Sensei they are at shock to witness his speed and power. Higaonna Sensei karate techniques of Goju-ryu are as if Sensei is a superhuman. I will always be grateful to of had Higaonna Sensei in America for the time or number of years that we (Americans) did. The 4 Hour drive became nothing for me to drive; as that was a chance to train with the legendary Sensei of Goju-ryu. Sensei Higaonna taught out of his dojo in California and other I.O.G.K.F. karateka's travelled from every corner of this earth to also get the chance to train with Sensei Higaonna. These are men of budo, and that is something very rare in today world.
It must've been great pleasure and an honor to train under a legend like him. I'm here in the east coast, NYC. The nearest Goju Ryu dojo in the area is deep in the outskirts of the Bronx and I'm afraid that trip will make my commitment near to impossible. But I have a little knowledge of Goju Karate and Shotokan Karate and have recently this summer decided to train on my own at home from the beginning so I don't cheat myself of relearning the basics and hopefully within a few years qualify for a black belt test or something close.
This is more like the tutorial of the techniques this kata uses because my sensei told me that goju ryu came from subtle and strong moves I do some parts with aggression and others with control The zuki(punch)is aggressive fast and strong but a mawashi uke(pushing technique) has to have slow but steady movement so how I learned it this kata has to have slow and also explosive movement accually every Goju Ryu kata needs to have the sweet spot between explosive and subtle techniques because that’s what Go Ju ryu stands for (Go and Ju)
To my friends in budo that posted the like about my comment. Спасибо, что любите своего друга в будо. Maybe someday we will train together under Higaonna Sensei. When that day happens both of our Lives will become better through discipline ; goodwill , and kindness of only few understand. Until that day happens; may we both have good health, and happiness.
Wow, even the best karate, and this is probably the best karate in the world, is like child's play in comparison to southern Chinese Gung Fu. It's frightening just how much was lost in translation from Fujian to Okinawa to Japan.
@ Department of Thought, What qualifications do you have to make this statement? All Okinawan karate is a direct evolution from many Southern Chinese styles. Many elements and techniques were improved by masters that studied in China extensively. There are many different arts, but each one has advantages and disadvantages. Back in the days it was not uncommon for a practitioner to steep themselves in different arts, i.e. cross-train. What you saw in the video is a form. What you did not see is multiple applications of techniques - bunkai. Lastly, it is not the art, but a practitioner that makes it work. If you are a poor plumber, I could care less if you went to Yale Plumber School, if you can’t fix a leaky pipe.
You haven't been doing karate for long. If you did you'd know that there are usually differences in the way a kata is performed between karate styles and also between different schools teaching the same style.

Saifa is a very good kata to learn from. It does not matter what your rank is. Everyone can learn from SAIFA KATA.

Go and Ju, ie Hard and Soft, just FYI to those who may not know.
Higaonna Sensei is a man of budo. . ..Я навсегда благодарен Хинаону Сэнсэю! He was my teacher along side Shihan Rodney Hu for a great many years.
