Good tip for anyone who cbf getting diagrams. The two big thick wires in the auto plug are the inhib switch wires (which need to be joined). And with the reverse lights they are usually next to the inhib switch wires in the same line/row. If you put a later model gearbox in like me, you can put the gearbox in reverse and then use a multimeter to beep test (continuity test) and the two wires that beep together are your reverse lights. Take note of which wires beep, then put gearbox into neutral and they will no longer beep. And that's how ya figure it out with no wiring diagram. You can also do the same with the auto box I think, but I haven't tested and you would need to connect the shifter up to do it.
Thanks for this video man, I couldn't find a proper diagram for my car bc5 JDM, just manual swapped it and have learnt heaps from your video. Got the inhib switch working and reverse lights done thanks to your video helping me and some common sense. Turns out bc5 is wired same as your car too, so bottom 4 wires do inhib switch and reverse lights. :)
I know this video is fairly old but man it's been a huge help doing my 96 impreza 5 speed swap. Trying to figure out the ecm. I'm idling high. When I went to check my ecm I already have wires there and they are completely different colors. I'm trying to find wiring diagram.
I just did a manual swap with a 04 forester XT trans into a 97 LGT and one thing to note if you want to keep cruse control and ABS light off you need to keep the TCU plugged in EXCEPT THE CENTER PLUG if you leave it plugged in the car will idle super high at 2100rpm.
When splicing the reverse lights in on your swap, is it brown/yellow to brown/yellow then green/black to black/yellow? My swap is a 97 outback with an 05 forester xt m/t
Great videos! Did the 5MT swap but keep getting the P1101 code and sometimes goes into limp mode or dies, should I try to put both wires from neutral position switch together? Thanks
@@theory hope you got it fixed by now if not look up a video “how to tune subaru for $10” that cable connects to your computer and you might be able to figure out ur problem through there ;)
Sean Bolza yes I had the wires backwards aaaand my reverse light switch was messed up I got a different one from a forester at a local junk yard and it fixed the issue
Danny B ah no shit. I will switch mine tomorrow. I just finished a swap today now doing the electrical stuff, i gotta figure the speed sensor stuff out now
Sean Bolza good luck man As for the speed sensor I wired mine from the new trans speed sensor to the green speed cable on my ecu and it’s been working great
Danny B wish mine was plug and play, the new trans has different style sensors compared to my auto.the 5mt has 3 separate harnesses the auto had all 3 into one harness.
Dirtcheapdaily sedan, it's pretty much just a shell. It's got all the suspension minus rsb, and most of the interior, and the body's all there, just a little rusty

You know something about forester 2007 vss?
“I’m an expert on second gens because they are the ones I did research on” lol.

Did you lose abs in the swap? I saw someone did when doing this and removing the tcu

Did you end up fixing it?
@@theory no more limp mode, drives great but code P1101 pops up maybe once per day no issue though, just reset
@@Trumpetmac I’m trying to fix the p1101, my car drives fine, but need to get rid of it for smog

How did you fix the reverse wiring? I’m getting the issue were the lights turn on
In any gear
Danny B me too, have yoi fixed it?
