    Its nice to still see folks doing this build as the EZ30s are slowly becoming difficult to get and some parts are not even available anymore. I completed mine a couple years ago and am pretty happy with it.

      I have been daily driving mine for going on two years now and still love it! And with the same exact motor! Can’t say the same about my GC with EJ251 #7 lol

    Great video. I'm in the middle of an 05 outback H6 into an 01 legacy L. Way bigger project than I wanted but good learning experience.

    Currently swapping my outback sport and putting an h6 into it this is the most helpful thing I've found super helpful.

    Great vids. About to swap a 3.6r from a 2015 legacy into a 2008 Impreza. Looks like I need a stand alone ecu. Wanting to run a speeduino but not sure if that's the best route. Any advice? Also looks like I need to add some extra motor mounts this this is huge! I do have the whole donor car unfortunately I can't get it to start. Will run a compression test and change timing belt while its out.

      Ai can pull pin outs up pretty easily , I’ve been using it to pull Subaru svx pin outs for a eg33 harness to wire to a ms3

    I'm planning to do an ez30 swap in my 07 Legacy (EUDM 2.0r). Been scouring the internet for MT ECU's for legacy/outback (facelift preferred). It's like finding a needle in a stack of needles though.

    GREAT way to approach this analogously harnesses side by site! You've given me the courage to do it myself😅 A haltek felt too expensive for what I was doing. Does anyone ever talk about turbo VS NA subframes with these swaps?

    I'm gathering info to do a spec b swap to my 08 Impreza Hatch :D
    RHD to LHD
    I've have the whole thing for the swap just need to start mergeing.
    And I'm scared AF that CanBus will kill the project so I'm going to a standalone, but still need to merge the harnesses.
    Nice work ! Great Vid, gave a like and sub !!

    Great Info! Thanks! I am in the middle of tearing down a 2002 Impreza 2.5 RS and looking at what wiring I need to remove. I noticed there are a few harnesses (Left, right and then the dash harness) From the sounds of your video, I dont need to touch the two that run through the fenders only the ones through the firewall? Also what H6 did you use? I’m looking at grabbing the wiring and that from a wrecked Tribeca (Ive seen 06 and 09’s so far but I think those are Drive by wire?…) Just wanted your thoughts since you have the experience of doing this and this will be my first Subaru swap so learning the platform as I go.

    • @ImproperBuilds
      @ImproperBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I would like to say you don’t need to pull the other harnesses but what I would do is take the main bulkhead harness that the ECU is connected to and start with just that. It should be all you need to pull as you are just looking to remove most engine bay to ECU wires and then transplant another ECU + wires into your harness. Take old 4 cylinder motor related stuff out and replace with new 6 cylinder stuff basically.
      I have another video that’s pretty dry but good information about the different 6 cylinders Subaru has and what goes into each when swapping. I have used the Phase 1 EZ30 motors that came with the cast aluminum intake manifold and drive by cable. They are easier to swap and can run off the factory H6 ECU like a “poor man’s standalone ECU”. I am currently building a Phase 2 EZ for my 05’ RS but that will get all my old work ripped out for a new harness with stand-alone ECU wired in. The EZ36 are a different animal than either of the EZ30’s but still a good motor. What’s popular with the EZ36 though, is that people destroke them to a 3.3l and lightly build them for boost. Still not as popular or common as EZ30 though.

      @jakebrown4719 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ImproperBuilds thanks for all the info! I definitely want to boost whatever 6cyl I put in there. But definitely want to stick with drive by cable (I think at least)… I do plan to run a stand alone ECU just to make life easier.
      A bit different from wiring, what Tran’s and that are you running in the RS?

    • @ImproperBuilds
      @ImproperBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakebrown4719 well I will say, I’ve seen a few guys daily driving 350-400hp EZ30R motors . . . Could be confirmation bias but it seems like with stock internals you can at least do 300-350hp boosted out of them.

  • @kw2519
    @kw2519 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m seriously looking at this.
    How much do you want to merge a harness on a 98legacy with a ej22EZ manual?

    • @ImproperBuilds
      @ImproperBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      As in it HAD an ej22 and manual and now has an EZ with the manual?

    • @kw2519
      @kw2519 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ImproperBuilds it’s a stock 98 manual Brighton that came with the ej22ez. The switch over point to integrated tensioner from the pencil style is 03/97, so it’s the newer motor that went in the last couple years of GC Imprezas

    • @ImproperBuilds
      @ImproperBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kw2519 ohh ok gotcha. I ended up actually throwing one of those in my GC after going through a number of the 251’s. At that point though, wouldn’t a 6 cylinder be a good move if you’d be going through all that?

    • @kw2519
      @kw2519 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ImproperBuilds ya, that’s the plan. The ej22EZ is getting tired and has a mild rod knock that I’ve kept at bay for two years with Lucas. So I’m looking at swapping an ez30 into it since the body is solid and rust free and I know everything about the car mechanically.

    • @ImproperBuilds
      @ImproperBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kw2519that sounds pretty similar to my experience lol. I’m going off of what other people online do harness merges for and sell already merged harnesses for and the baseline price seems to always be $1000 with free return shipping. Any alterations needed (If I screw something up) after the fact, I would pay for shipping back to me and then back to you. And of course the extra work would be free.

    I thinking of doing the exact thing. I have 2x03 h6 outbacks and my 96 legacy wagon. Are schemes commonly available? How did you know what to plug where. Also my legacy dont have AC and Immobiliser so idk if it would make any problems.

    • @ImproperBuilds
      @ImproperBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey sorry for the late reply but doing an 08’ H6 would mean you are using the Phase 2 EZ30 (“EZ30R”) and that motor really requires a standalone ECU to make it all happy.

    I have a 03 h6 Outback that a dog chewed up wiring junction under steer column. Looks to be mostly main bulkhead harness damage. If I sent you this harness could you repair? What state are you in? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. I have photos if your interested.
