Having just gotten back to RPG Maker 2003, I was thinking of messing around, getting the hang of it, then jumping to MV to make something serious. But if you can make something like THIS in 2003... i dont think i should jump ship so soon.
It's strange how much higher quality the RPG Maker 2003 titles seem compared to the later programs, especially in regards to commercial titles. Like 99% of the newer ones are mostly RTP, a few custom faces, and super average story and gameplay. The literal definition of the "RPG Maker game" stigma. Good on this game for looking quality!
the reason is because the people that stuck with rpgm2k3 are the veterans that don't want to move to other versions, veterans devs is what makes a good game not the program
Not strange at all. Rm2k3 devs made games because they wanted to share their art. Most of the mv-mz devs only want to earn a few easy dollars on steam.
RPG Maker XP has a lot of extremely impressive scripts but I wish those scripts would translate to actual games instead of just tech demos. Seriously full fledged action battle systems, tactical RPG mechanics, 3D maps you can rotate around, yet I've never seen a full game made with any of these features.
This vid was randomly suggested to me by YT and OMG I'm blown away by how this game looks O.o. I have totally gotta get this once it's out. Get my happy SNES memories on. I miss how wonderfully colorful the SNES era games were. SO many modern games are just dark, ugly, bleh. I'd play this over Final Fantasy 16 in a heartbeat.
This game is breathtaking. It looks like the best that Square and Sega came up with in the genesis and SNES era. Honestly it is prettier than most ps1 games as well. I am just shocked how impressive this is. Side note: I am headed to 40 and I enjoyed my 30s more than my 20s. I suppose it is all moment to moment though. :)
I felt the same way. This game looks better than most games it's paying tribute to and I hope I can I make something of this quality in RM one day. Very talented developer there. Also, thanks for the side note. Helps me feel a bit more validated in that opinion 😂
I'm in my last year of my 20s, I always wanted to get into game development. 4 kids later, it's hard to find time to learn! I was learning c++ and ue4 and was okay at. I could make simple games. Now that my kids want to start making games to, I rememeber about rpg maker. I am using the 20 day trail right now but man I'm using it more than my kids! It's super easy to get into and in already 5% done with my game. All I have to do is put everything together this game has been living in me for 10 years
This game utilizes the Maniacs patch for RM2k3, but imo that patch doesn't add anything that makes this game any less incredible. It's still a really impressive feat.

Awesome! I love these titles and it's always incredible to see how these people manage to break the program's limits. There is one game i wanted to share and it's Theia: the crimson eclipse. Have you ever seen it? It's made from an italian indie developer in RM2K3, too. It's very nice!! And it's heavily customized

This puts the majority of MV/MZ projects to shame xD all what new engines mostly bring in the table is more conveniences in developing, like comparing MZ/MV layers.. shows they put a lot of effort in this nice game ^^
This is just mindblowing. How is possible to make a menu like this in rpg maker mv? My goodness. This is all scripted. even the dialogue boxes I think it's a image and then he puts the text on it. Could you teach at least how to make a menu like this?
It's been something I've wanted to do for a while but it's quite complex in certain parts. I'm still working out certain parts of menu interactions myself, but I may just do a video of my trial and error to help people learn
Through a lot of mastery in the engine! This game also uses a patch that expands a bit of Rm2k3's functionality. It still takes a lot of work to accomplish something that looks this good!
@@kamudo999 i mean you can't program stuff it was later introduce in RPG MAKER XP i think where you could code in Ruby but 2003 had no such a capabilities.
That's because for the English release of RM2k3 I had to basically build a huge patch for the Japanese version that makes it English and adds new features, as the source code was no longer available. Due to this, the EXE file is very "unusual" as it's essentially hacked, and thus often detected as false positive, unfortunately. And then Maniacs added more hacks on top, so "under the hood" it's a bit messy. It's harmless though.

The more accessible a development tool is, the more people who don't know what they're doing are going to use it. The same stigma surrounded Unity.

RPG Maker 2003 was my favorite one by far, and I've used a few of them over the years. You can do a hell of a lot with it, and without programming.
