It's so hard when you get older and don't have help. My mom can't take care of cleaning anymore but she has me to help with that. But so many older folks are all alone.
@enbycarp - I'm a childless disabled senior living alone (with 3 cats). I have no nearby family. I pay about $500 a month to have my house cleaned. I have no financial support and pay for everything out of my CalPERS pension and SSDI. It took me a few years before admitting I couldn't keep up with the house cleaning. This man probably has a lot of pride getting in the way of the help he needs. He is very sweet and I want him to live well.
I agree. He deserves a free house cleaning. Please get him help. As unable to keep up with his tasks as he is, he still had the heart to help those cats -- send him some love, please.
It seems like this guy needs some help and wasn't just not ready to care for the cats (glad he called) but also having trouble taking care of himself too. I hope someone will help him out.

Also, depending on his circumstances, he may not have much choice about where he lives. It's tragic what can happen to elderly people on a fixed budget.
Now this is what drives me to tears. A man who is living in poverty has the heart and compassion to help a beautiful mama cat and her babies who have no home and also living in poverty. This is a mutual rescue I thank Hope4Paws who trapped and rescued mama-cat and all her babies. She is so beautiful. If this happened in South Africa I would have adopted her, but I already have a tiny sanctuary of my own, helping stray cats and having adopted shelter cats. Hope Greg will also be helped by another good samaritan. He was an angel
I hope someone called elder services to get that nice man the help he needs, he needs more help than those kitties. So kind of him to take them in and try to care for them. My heart breaks for him.

I feel so bad for Greg. If he does end up going back to that apartment after being released from the hospital, I would love to help any way I can. I'm in Minnesota, so I can't help him clean/paint, but I would happily donate to help him leave that apartment.
Thankfully this man did the right thing and invited the mom in to have her babies and then kept them inside. They are safe now and so is the beautiful man that helped them to live.

Imo we should make prisons like squalor and put our elderly in the prisons where the get 3 good meals a day, free medical care, free tv and internet, free gym equipment. They deserve so much better. i doubt an animal rescue association that spends all of their money on the animals they need to help are going to give a man money. they rescue animals, they are not an organization that helps people. they already thanked him, what he needs is services they cant offer.

The mother and kittens wouldn't have lasted on the streets no matter what his home is like life on the streets would have been worse. Glad something has been set up to help the owner :) sure the vet will decide when the kitten is old enough whether it will amputate or not based on condition at year or two old possible if not before then. They will base it on years of experience. Thanks team HFP for making the best of a scary situation for this family you did well and pretty quickly and family has adjusted quite well to being in care to foster shelter. Well done 👏👏👏👏🐈⬛🐈⬛

They are in a very safe neighborhood with people who know I am taking care of them so they have it better than most strays. They have food and water 24/7 and are warming up 😊 my 4 cats have ongoing conversations with them. So cute. I just want to get them before it gets cold which in North Dakota is no joke! I will be sure to shelter them.

A very loved cat of mine had stump hindlegs, both, and of uneven length. He got around just fine without surgery. A major research vet hospital associated with the SPCA had him evaluated by their orthopedic surgeons, and they decided to leave his legs as they were as he was happy and mobile. He had incredible core strength and was able to swing himself up on platforms. But I also got him accessible cat towers and made sure he had good traction on floors. He was one of the happiest and most loving beings on earth, and lived to ca 18 years. It's a long time ago, and he was almost pts at the shelter b/c potential adopters passed him over for his legs being 'repugnant'. They missed out on the most wonderful cat, I was incredibly lucky to live with him.
I think knowing Mama and kittens are safe and being taken care of is the biggest load off Greg's back! If he is able to return to this home after he gets out of the hospital I hope there will be as exuberant help for cleaning his home as for rescuing the cat family, who might have been calmer had they known their life was getting better! Wrangling kittens is certainly something that takes a lot of practice just to be okay; I don't know that it is possible to be really good at it😅! Here's to happy and safe lives for Greg, and Mambo and all her kittens!😺🐈🐈⬛😊

Wonderful work by both Greg and the rescuers. It's hard to hear the cats' distress and cries as they just can't understand the rescuers' intentions; I salute these brave and determined workers. I was actually surprised they didn't wear thicker gloves to protect their hands, but then I realized it's probably because it would be hard to grasp and use the nets and other tools.
That person did not just open his home to a cat, he opened his home to cameras. His life, for all of us to see. Love you, dude, you are braver than me. Hugs and love!

It's so touching that someone like Greg, who's struggling with basic survival--health problems and a decent living environment--still thinks selflessly of the suffering of other creatures and shared the little he has with this family.
I had a dog years ago that had a missing rear foot. The vet told me that when it was born the mother cleaning it and eating the placenta probably ate the foot. Beautiful kittens! I want to go clean that man’s house for him! Elderly services should be notified to help him. Bless you all!

OMGosh, this was heartbreaking. Poor kitties and poor man. I have a rescue cat that has a similar deformity, but higher up on her leg. It doesn't hold her back in the least. She doesn't even know she's different. God Bless Hope For Paws!!

Very glad to hear that Eldad is trying to help Greg as well as this family of cats. The best way we can help our elders and disabled people is to normalize community care instead of outsourcing it through insurance and government programs. If we make a point to center the elderly and disabled in our local communities, to learn how they live and what they need, there will be no more people living in squalor and suffering. Wolves when they travel in packs put their elderly and disabled at the front to set the pace. Let's be more like wolves.
Talk about peas in a pod family, all the kittens look like the Mama. So glad you got them saved and helped that dear kind gentlemen because that was a great responsibility to have that family to look after. Hope someone has family that will keep an eye on him and help him, he deserves it.

One of my cats, a little tuxedo, has that same deformity. Doesn't stop her a bit. She uses the little nub leg to pivot when she runs.

It's so touching that someone like Greg, who's struggling with basic survival--health problems and a decent living environment--still thinks selflessly of the suffering of other creatures and shared the little he has with this family.
I had a dog years ago that had a missing rear foot. The vet told me that when it was born the mother cleaning it and eating the placenta probably ate the foot. Beautiful kittens! I want to go clean that man’s house for him! Elderly services should be notified to help him. Bless you all!

OMGosh, this was heartbreaking. Poor kitties and poor man. I have a rescue cat that has a similar deformity, but higher up on her leg. It doesn't hold her back in the least. She doesn't even know she's different. God Bless Hope For Paws!!

Very glad to hear that Eldad is trying to help Greg as well as this family of cats. The best way we can help our elders and disabled people is to normalize community care instead of outsourcing it through insurance and government programs. If we make a point to center the elderly and disabled in our local communities, to learn how they live and what they need, there will be no more people living in squalor and suffering. Wolves when they travel in packs put their elderly and disabled at the front to set the pace. Let's be more like wolves.

Talk about peas in a pod family, all the kittens look like the Mama. So glad you got them saved and helped that dear kind gentlemen because that was a great responsibility to have that family to look after. Hope someone has family that will keep an eye on him and help him, he deserves it.
