    the memorium you did for Annie was so lovely, and learning her story was amazing. I already knew about how woman in animation would be constantly uncredited and pushed aside, all the while making the films possible, but hearing that the person she trained got the lead and not her slightly made my blood boil. but even after that she went on the help create the worlds that millions on children loved is just inspiring. I really hope one day the history and names of people like annie become just as intwined with the movie as the more well known roles.

      Yeah I found it super sad as soon as she left Disney suddenly she started to get all that credit an an award....Disney missed the opportunity to reward her efforts and be shown as in support of women working (although I know it was different back then)
      Everytime I hear someone not getting credit though like that I find it extremely ironic because Walt himself lost his original mascot character and didn't get credit for him until decades later
      So you would think he would care about crediting people

      I was so stoked to find out she worked on She-Ra, my mom had dvds with some episodes of that show, and it was one of my favorite shows! I have stories from when I was too small to remember wherein I claimed the role of the main character! I never expected to be talking about this on a video essay about an easter egg in a Disney movie, but here we are! And I'm glad we are here.

    God The Rescuers was a hell of a film - that scene of the girl in the tidal cave utterly terrified me, particularly the sections in which: she has to edge around a seemingly bottomless pit and nearly falls in; and when she's struggling to somehow get the diamond from inside the giant skull and can't, and water starts rising and she's screaming to the villainess (who's safe outside the cave) that she won't be able to get the diamond before the tide gets too high, and begs to be let out and promises to try again as soon as the tide drops, and the villainess just tells her she'll let her out with the diamond or not at all - and the girl manages to retrieve it for fear of drowning, and even then she just gets left in the cave anyway! Of course she doesn't actually drown but dear god, that whole scene has stayed with me every since and is a big reason why I will absolutely never go near a cave by the sea.

      An extremely underrated film, in my opinion. It was basically the old school animators’ swan song before most of them left the studio for retirement and a return to more emotional, dramatic films that Walt pioneered after over a decade of lighthearted comedies.
      It was also their last major success at the box office before the Disney Renaissance took off around a decade later. And yet, despite that, neither it nor the sequel get nearly much recognition from the company. It’s just lobbed in with all their miscellaneous films. Such a shame.

    Wonderful video, only thing that I was disappointed that wasn't mentioned was that the two frames were non-consecutive. This made it even more fleeting and hard to spot; instead of 0.08 seconds, it was window for 0.04 seconds, mouse in the way for another 0.04, and then finally another glimpse of the window for a final 0.04.
    Also, being an early internet adopter and an employee of Blockbuster at the time meant I had a chance to get ahead of the recall. Found out about the controversy online when I got up that Friday, went in to work my opening shift, asked the manager "these are still for sale right?" -- confused she replied "why wouldn't they be?" so I bought one and took it out to my car. About an hour or two after opening the email came in from corporate to pull all the rental and sale copies.

    Disney and some of its more hardcore fans insist the woman was not in the original theatrical release of the film, but that's not true. Years ago I reviewed two film prints of the movie, one in German and another in Greek, both from 1977, and both of them had the woman. If you search "Bernhard & Bianca - Die Mäusepolizei 1977" there's a 2 minute 40 second long clip from a mid-to-late 1977 airing where they showed a preview on the film on German television, where if you pause at the right moment, you can also see the woman.

    Both the centaurs in Fantasia and the women in Make Mine Music were drawn by Freddie Moore. Freddie was a known favorite of Walt’s, being the one to make the iconic redesign of Mickey, and Walt famously saying about his effortlessly appealing drawings “why can’t we do it more like this?” Freddie was known throughout the studio for his draftsmanship of women. If anyone could convince Walt to let that slide, it was him.

    Not sure if I ever published it or if it's out in the ether somewhere, but I interviewed the guy who animated her falling out of the cab, and I'm sorry Edd.... YOU'RE WRONG ABOUT JESSICA RABBIT!
    The animator is Colin White, who is retired and living in England, where the movie was animated (I did go and visit the Acme Factory in England along with the building the majority of the movie's animation was done in) and I can tell you that YES... HE DREW JESSICA'S PRIVATE PARTS.
    Now, he thought it would get seen in the ink and paint stage and maybe someone might say to him in the commissary, "Oh, we had to erase your naughty joke, but very funny," but no. It's not a coloring mistake. He drew her hairless gooch and they colored it flesh on purpose.
    He's a good, decent man, but he's an animator.... and they're all subversively minded!

    • @Sakkeru96
      @Sakkeru96 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      My guess is: as far as possible for profitability.
      They're sadly mostly a business now. Art is secondary. I find it rather tragic given how the Disney studio was instrumental in demonstrating that feature length animated films could be a thing (with Snow White) but now the name is just owned by... whatever the modern Disney corp is. It's not really trying to break new ground at all, it's just doing the bare minimum to get over breaking even. Or at least that's the feeling I get, and I wish I could convince myself otherwise...

    Maybe people will set up a dedicated search for it if they haven't already? Sort of a "lost media" type of thing? I mean hell, people dug up an old video game texture, I'm sure this would gather a lot more dedicated searchers, if nothing else because of the subject matter.

Back then everything was physical and it would have cost too much to get every cel of Nausicaa herself redone so they just released it.

      Back then, they would outsource to Canada, France, Australia, Japan or the Philippines.

    I did a similar screw-this-job walkout at a radio station in college where I only worked for 3 weeks. The owner was a complete jerkbutt, and it was a station that only played soft music like Neil Sedaka and oldies. Like, Enya would be considered "too edgy" for this station.
    Well, the owner ripped me a new one for letting a contest winner come by the station lobby on the weekend to claim their prize, so I was like, to hell with this.
    I looked through the promo CDs, which had all kinds of music, that were sent to stations to generate interest, and picked the hardest, thrashiest, angriest heavy metal I could find.
    I put it on repeat, left the studio, and laughed the whole way home. I was working night shift, so I imagine it was on for hours.
    Then I switched to working at tv stations and never went back to radio. 😂

    I swear to god I saw a high-res version of the original woman in the window photo somewhere on the internet sometime in the last 10 years, and with it the model's name and the original publication, I just don't remember on what website unfortunately. I remember it distinctly because people always used to have this silly theory that she was wearing some kind of demon mask because of how her face looks in the low quality image, and original image proved that that was clearly not the case. It might have been in a youtube video, but if it was it's probably been taken down since because of youtube's stricter rules on adult content.

  • @09Dolores
    @09Dolores ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Watched this video last night, and came up with a theory as to where the image may have originated from. In the 50s and 60s (possibly continued into the 70s), there were these nudie cutie loops, short videos of stripteases or nude women. Generally tame by today's standards. Although there were explicit loops too. Anyway, my point is I think the image may be a still frame from one of those nudie loops. Wouldn't be surprised if someone at Disney back then had worked on some of them, or knew someone who did, and may have had access to the original film, which they could've took a frame from. Rarely would there be any kind of credits in those loops though. Sometimes a production company might be mentioned though.
    The image does look vaguely familiar to me, but I can't say for certain. I'll check over a few collections of those loops I've got, and report any findings here.
    I was also thinking that when they said she was a 'Playboy centrefold', perhaps they meant she was a model who appeared in a centrefold, but the image wasn't from a centrefold. If that's the case, there's a chance she might've looked different. Models back then, and even now, really, would often dye their hair, or try different hair styles. So, can sometimes look completely different. Might also be worth looking into nudist magazines from the time. A lot of the same models appearing in those.

      I checked the ones I had. Didn't come up with anything, except that I might be on to something. Found a background in one that looks similar, but not the same. There was a curtain that looked similar. Best lead I've got though. Something Weird Video have loads more loops, so might be worth getting some from them, and searching through them. Looks like it's likely to be one from the 50s.

    I remember when I was much younger. I was 10 and now 51. I viewed a thing that played small parts of the movie and I remember seeing that. Even later on I spotted darkwing duck episode years later watching it as it aired and later recorded it to confirm what I saw. It was a coloring area. Darkwing was coming out of a cake leaving the dark dimension and for one frame it had the colors of Negaduck instead of his normal colors. To this day I still have a very good eye for catching little details on movies and if actor no matter the time on screen or them being in makeup to hide their trates I can say what other movies they stared in and other details of them.
    Another example of this years ago my son lived with me for a few months and I went to his school open house. I only spoke with his teachers and went home. Roughly 4-5 years later I drove for Uber and a teacher he didn’t have came in my van for a ride and I still remembered him. I asked him to make sure I was right and I was. So anyone can do this if you remain visual and keep a positive outlook. It might not be as strong as my experience because there are others that have even stronger memory skills but nothing wrong with trying to challenge your mind.

    Getting to see the picture cleared up so she has a face again is a relief to the whole memory. It's like the puzzle is as complete as it needed to be... It's not that her identity was hidden only the quality from the frame was what happened to get face.

    I feel like a lot of these odd things can be chalked up to the power of suggestion, like people underestimate how easily ones perception can be manipulated with a simple word choice like if you ask someone if they talked to someone and then showed them an image and followed by asking if this is what they looked like a persons brain will warp the memory of who they talked to thanks to the suggestion of the photo.
    Its actually caused some issues in the past like with missing persons cases and such but in this instance its more akin to a thirteen year old telling a ten year old you can see boobies if you slow down Chip & Dale which was really evil because using slow-mo on a VHS player could really warp the tape
