KAYAK FISHING | LURE FISHING FOR BASS & WRASSE

This was my first kayak fishing trip of the year. I ventured out and paddled around a large bay, keeping an eye out for any areas of reef, structure, or any signs of life in the water. Armed with two light lure rods, I'd be targeting anything, from bass, wrasse & pollock.
On this day we had some big spring tides and although I'd be fishing the ebb of the tide, I'd have to wait for slack water to fish effectively due to the strong tidal run.
After a while of paddling round, I soon came into some fish. Check out the video to see how I got on.

Thanks. It takes a bit of getting used to I find. You swing around quite a bit which can be difficult.

I would suggest getting yourself a drogue - I never go out without one - slows the drift right down and much safer than an anchor. You'd need an anchor trolley. The only issue is if the tide is really running it might make you drift quicker especially with the rips you get there.

I actually have a drogue. I’m yet to use it though. Still finding my feet with kayak fishing. I like to have as little as possible to have to take with me. I know some anglers love kayak fishing but it sure is a bit of a ball ache sometimes 😂 especially with big tides. I will try it some day though, thanks for the advice 👍🏼

I actually have a drift shoot but didn’t take it that day. I don’t think I’ll go full on with the kayak and install navionics or anything. I’ll save that for when I buy a dingy 😁
