Neon tetras are peaceful fish, they rarely become aggressive. When they start exhibiting signs of strange behavior, you should observe the fish
If the tank too small, it causes fish stress.
If the water is dirty and its temperature changes suddenly. This may be disturbing the tetras and making them aggressive.
If they are hungry, then, this may cause neon tetra to become aggressive.
If the lighting is too bright for them, they would be angry about it.
If Neon tetra have disease which will cause them much stress. Whenever you notice some changes in your tetra’s behavior. Immediately start checking out all of the previous potential reasons

They shouldn’t be fin nippy if fed right, if you notice yours fin nipping try feeding more. They could just be hungry.

I feed mines a lot of food and they be bloated and still fight each other .. I lost 1 to dropsy though

@@TinoMiller usually feeding more works, but this can also be down to genetics through inbreeding. Neon tetras are in desperate need of genetic rescue, whoever is breeding these needs to get a hold of wild imports and redistribute new genes into their breeding stock. A lot of fish in captivity are being exploited and overbred irresponsibly, many irresponsible and unfit breeders breed sibling pairs for generations because “it doesn’t affect them that badly”, they can go for a few generations, but you shouldn’t resort to incest because it is easier. If you ever see f1 generation of fish, GET THEM, they are as healthy as they are ever going to be before more people inbreed them by breeding sibling pairs constantly. They may be prolific but if enough people breed sibling pairs, there is a lot of fish with very little genetic value and lots of internal health issues.
Intense incest affects their behaviors as well, there is no natural selection for culling nippy fish in an otherwise peaceful species that didn’t show that behavior when they were new to the hobby.

So when yours started attacking each other, what was the problem? I cannot figure out why mine are being aggressive except maybe because they are still new and just not used to the tank yet (only been in for 2 days now)

@@kennasmommaaxx9679 I wish you'd received an answer because I just got my first little group of neons for my 10 gallon and only one of them has expressed this behavior, the others seem to just vibe and don't have any issues. It's only day 2 with them as well - I don't want this one I've dubbed "bully bart" to continue behaving like this. He does leave the other species in the tank alone (1 betta and 2 julii cory), it's only when the other neons come around

I just get confused with my cousins tank im watching over cuz I added 3 neons for her and 2 of them went missing without a trace. no bodies no nothing. I looked EVERYWHERE.

@@kennasmommaaxx9679 Like, ive had neons before and usually a good chunk of neons simply don't make it, but when u can't find the bodies anywhere and nothing in the tank could eat them, it's like, wtf? I legit took out rocks and logs looking for the bodies. Looked on the floor to. Nothin.

@@duncandonuts5268 do you have snails? My mystery snails eat any fish that dies in my tank and that’s all I can figure happened to my neons. They were quick with clean up if so though. Cause it was like over night that the neons disappeared.

Check the filter. Sometimes it sucks neons because they are small
