Honestly I can’t see why we would attack Spain though I understand the concept of this video. Spain is a great ally, a proud nation and one with a formidable military tradition, similar to ours. Long live our friendship ! I think « India vs Pakistan » could be interesting, but quite controversial in today’s diplomatic climate..
In fact, the only thing that could invade Spain are the Spaniards themselves. It is completely impossible that France could invade Spain, nor the Chinese, Russians and Americans together could do it. This is due to two fundamental factors: -The geography: The Iberian Peninsula is a complete headache if you want to invade it. The Romans met with the greatest resistance in their history trying to invade small groups that were dedicated to hunting wild boars even having their powerful legionaries. Simply because in Spain you can not win if you do not adapt to the environment and ... only Spaniards adapt to the climate of Spain. Hence comes a famous saying about Spain, which says that Hispania was conquered but never dominated since, the Romans after taking Hispania decided to give total autonomy and religious and cultural freedom to the Hispanic people because they did not want to have enemies in their own borders, this is why in Spain the oldest language in Europe, the Basque language, is preserved. -The people: Muslims, Byzantines, French, English, Turks ... all these tried to invade Spain but nobody succeeded. This is because the Spaniards have a very aggressive mentality in terms of protecting what they consider their own, perhaps it is a legacy of the ancient Celtic past. The Spanish never kneel or surrender to the invaders and that is why Spain has never been invaded in its entirety. The Spanish guerrillas are, in fact, the most powerful army in the world, that is the great secret of Spain in war matters, Napoleon did not know it and that's why he lost and repented, Hitler did know and that's why he refused to attack Spain . No matter how much military advantage there is, the only way to conquer Spain is to kill the 46 million Spaniards. Otherwise, any invading army in Spanish territory would be annihilated and massacred without any opportunity. Of course, this is only counting military objective terms and the border that separates both countries, in that case Spain could be invaded by some countries. But, adding the geography and the population of Spain as well as the patriotic call of all Spaniards scattered around the world (which are not few), Spain is impossible to invade. Sorry for my bad English.

do you believe in genetics? From genetics to genetics, France has no way to beat Spain. The Spanish are descended from people who were at war for 800 years with the Moors, people who were at war for 300 years with the Romans, 200 years at war with the Nordic and English Protestants. from people who conquered half the world, from people who made the inquisition, from people like Pizarro, Hernando de Soto, Cortez, etc. I respect the French but they are more people of fashion and haute cuisine.

France is more militarily powerful than Spain, because it has 20 million more inhabitants (47 vs. 67 million people) and France spends twice as much as Spain on its military budget. Possibly France would defeat Spain in an open confrontation, but it is not so clear if France attempted to conquer Spain. First, because it is easier to defend your own territory than to attack another. And second, because if Spain were to be attacked, it would immediately start producing weapons and recruiting troops. No matter how many weapons and troops France has, he would always have to leave part of his army in his own country. So the fight would be between part of the French army and the entire Spanish army, with the additional participation of millions of Spaniards who would face the invaders. Conclusion: I am not a military man, but I believe that France does not have sufficient military power to invade Spain, and if it did, it would not have sufficient capacity to maintain an occupation of such a large country for a long time.

And then we invented guerrilla warfare. We still celebrate that on the 2nd of may, our own independence day.
@@rune12358 Spain does not celebrate any independence day of France. Only in the community of Madrid there is a day called May 2. The name of independence is a romantic concept, from the 19th century, which is under review. Because Prussia, Austria and Russia also lived wars of liberation, which are not called war of independence. Spain had an empire 8 times larger than the French empire, at that time, larger than the British empire and all of Europe together. The French were invaded in a month by the Germans, and had to make a war of liberation, in 1940. Do the French call that process of World War II independent of the Germans in 1871 and 1944? @Reunite The British Empire England would not even have existed if it were not an island. You have to put a statue in London to the island, and another to the tempest. Those are the best generals in England. Spain sent 3 navies (1588, 1596, 1597). 3 storms prevented the total destruction of England. The proof is that in 1589, without storms, Drake's English fleet was destroyed. Although we had already had a king in England, Philip II, who cut off the heads of 200 Protestant clergymen. Announce that he made a mistake: sparing the life of Elisabeth I. Maria Tudor wanted to cut off Elisabeht's head. There you have 4 times when you have to give thanks, for existing. Even in the Thirteen Colonies War, Spain made a naval blockade of England in 1779-80, capturing 80 British ships, leading to a broken bench, and the defeat of Britain: independence from the thirteen colonies. The United States adopted the Spanish dollar as its currency. Actually the goal was to conquer England. The Spanish admiral wanted to do it, but the French were afraid. The British empire is a hidden poodle on an island, which could not win WW1 and WW2, the small German empire: it needed the French empire, the Russian empire, the United States and a world flu. Compare that to the Spanish empire, which dominated Italy 455 years, and which simultaneously fought France, England, the Netherlands, Protestant Germany and the Turkish empire, without losing land, for 140 years. In the peninsular war the English were hidden in Portugal, and fled like rabbits when Napoleon appeared. So there were 500,000 Spanish dead, and only 10,000 British dead. And as Wellington said: English soldiers are the scum of the earth, they join the army for a drink. Of course, Spain has won England / United Kingdom, more wars: 19-16 We have also beaten France more times: 15-11, and all the countries in Europe. If you had not been an island the soldiers of Felipe II of Spain would have entered London in one day. Napoleon would have taken another day to arrive, and Hitler too. England is a lucky poodle.
Leron Benari the maginot line did NOT serve its purpose. The purpose was to stop a German invasion. That didn’t happen. France wanted to extend it along its border with Belgium but Belgium didn’t want that - France should’ve told Belgium “either let us build it on your border with Germany or we’ll build it along the border with you”
@@theyoshi202 Wrong, the purpose of the Maginot Line was to force Germany to go around, in that it worked ENTIRELY as planned. The French plan was for the French mobile forces (1st and 5th Armies if I recall) to engage the German Army (the Heer... NOT the Wermacht, the latter was actually the term for ALL the German armed forces as a whole) in Belgium. The plan was to force a war that was not on French soil. The French were not fucking stupid, they KNEW that the best way to stop another war on their soil was to force it to be fought on someone elses. They KNEW that Germany would almost certainly go around again, the Border between the two contries was highly fortified before WWI, let alone in 1939. The idea was sound, the Maginot Line could be held by second, even third rate troops, freeing up higher quality troops for the mobile divisions. The execution was the problem. The reasons for that are many and complex, and are a mixture of manpower problems stemming from the absolutly BRUTAL casualties France suffered in WWI, political indecision and infighting between the wars, and an inability for certain parts of French High Command to see that maybe warfare had changed, and it might be a little more mobile than 1918.... The French were perfectly aware, unlike you, that static fortifications alone do NOT stop invading forces. What they CAN do is channel those invading forces into ground of your choosing... not theirs. THAt was the purpose of the Maginot Line. To channel enemy forces... that it did not work was not due to a fault with the idea, the idea was perfectly sound, but with other problems not related to that doctrine....
France is a nuclear power... that might be slightly troublesome for our army. Still, i believe a full invasion of Spain is difficult. History has taught us that no matter how many years or centuries pass, we always retake what belong to us.
@Jerome Builles It should not be forgotten that the Arabs on the peninsula were much more developed than the French and other countries in Europe in the Middle Ages (including Spanish Christians). Islamic Cordoba in Spain had 450,000 inhabitants, marble palaces, public baths, a 90% child literacy rate, 170 intellectual women, a high culture and science, and the legacy of the Greeks and Romans that Europe had almost lost. Paris, London or Berlin were villages of wooden houses, 50,000 inhabitants and streets full of mud and dirt. Only France and England and all of Europe emerge from the middle and feudal ages, when Spain discovers America, and brings gold, silver, colonial products, a strong currency, globalization and great capitalism: the modern age. Spain laid the foundations for the modern age.
Key to anti Nuclear attack might be capture or destruction of Nuclear supplies (missile sites). Or threatening to do even more damage to French cities or whatever when knowing of a possible strike. I like France btw👍👍
Also no country will want to use a Nuclear strike even if your country is loosing because that might come at a very high price to you. And won’t really change the situation. Nuclear Missiles are more made for not starting another war by scaring.
"I have as my enemy a nation of twelve million souls, enraged to the unspeakable. Everything that was done here on May 2 was hateful. No, sire. You are in an error. Your glory will sink in Spain". You're forget that without the British help or the Austrian declaration of war in 1809 Napoleon will win his compain against the spanish. The Spanish was really brave but France was against all of Europe with the obligation to stop to suplies they troops in Spain for 275 000 men in Germany and Austria in 1809 and 650 000 men trained since 1810-1811 for the Russian campain. But in side by side without the help of basiccaly all of Europe, sorry but the Spanish had no chance against french napoleonic army. Also Joseph was a really bad King and military commandant and the defeat in Spain was in part because of him and military errors of the Napoleon's generals. And the 275 000 troops used against Austria was in march against Portugal and Andalousia in 1809, Napoleon was in command and he was winning against the guerrillas and the British. The French loose in 1810 without Napoleon, a lot of troops, with bad generals against the good general in chief Arthur de Welleslay futur duke of wellington.
@@jenedonnepasmonblaseanimpo2781 All that you said is true, however the point juan1911 made still remains. Spain and Portugal would have lost the Peninsula War if Napoleon hadn't pulled out to deal with Russia and Austria, true. BUT, with the forces that were in Spain once Napoleon left, they were defeated. And Spain didn't have a Napoleon either, had less and worse proffessional troops than the French and most of their generals were mediocre or bad (with a couple of exceptions). But the French didn't have guerrilla or the support of the people, while the Spanish did. Yes, the Duke played its part, but as juan stated, most of French soldiers died at Spanish hands (although he is wrong in one detail: the 200k French casualties were caused by all Spanish forces, not only the guerrilla). The Brits always play their part, but don't believe them when they say it was mostly thanks to them; maybe with the exception of WW1 (the blockade of HM Navy eventually brought Germany down) but it was not the case in the Peninsula War or WWII. I really like Britain and the British, but they still suffer a bit of post-Empire nostalgia :)
Spain and France are countries of the European Union. We are friends. In the past, there were wars. For example: Spain expelled the French from Italy, 7 times. Spain invaded Paris in 1592, forcing the French to become Catholics. When King Louis XIV of France called himself the Sun King, Spain had an empire 20 times larger than the French Empire, even more conquests in Europe. And Napoleon lost the empire here (300,000 dead soldiers). Napoleon, who had underestimated Spain, acknowledged: "Spain has been the tomb of the French Empire." So the quality of the Spanish general, and the Spanish soldier, is very high. France lost almost all the wars against England. Spain won England hundreds of times. But today military invasions are not possible, because armies are small. But you can play to dream: Spain is the 2nd mountainous country in Europe. We have more than 150 combat aircraft (which would be supported by thousands of missiles and by the navy.) No French plane could land in Spain, because the missiles would appear very fast, between the mountains. The French army could not reach the road. We would also have the support of millions of Latin American volunteers (there are 480 million Americans who speak Spanish). And if something remains of the French army, after destroying Spain, the Germans would take advantage to visit the boulevards of Paris again. We could also make a nuclear missile, and no country would have value. The United States can not invade North Korea or any nuclear country. The United States has 23 times the strength of the small French army. But there is nuclear deterrence, and the defeated empire of Napoleon. But Friends.

Vauban made this place a mountain chain fortress. Mountains aren't avoidable, most roads and ways are kept by fortifications. It is Alpine tier, same situation on the French Italian border. Try to pass on the coastal flatter way and get rekt by artillerie firing from above. As I said, this video is so wrong, but the author could not know if he didn't visit the region.
@@BruneSixtine I gathered from your username, I was being rhetorical. It certainly seems like it. Although France has a massive advantage when it comes to its military. He didn't count 2 major assets the French have: The French Foreign Legion, or the major advantage France has in training. In this fight, it's likely that France would dominate over Spain, especially after taking into consideration France has been actively ramping up military spending the past couple years because of US withdrawal from situational conflicts, and they've become heavily invested in the idea of the French taking the place of the US in geopolitical conflicts in case the US does withdraw from its role as "world police". The French government sees themselves as the successor to the US in that regard.
The 3:1 ratio doctrine is a guideline, and it's not numerical. There are many factors that go into the 3:1 NATO/US doctrine in warfare, and it includes things like training, technology, experience, surprise, verocity of action, terrain, etc. It's why the US didn't even bother sending more than 200,000 troops against Iraq during the second Iraq war. They knew the military edge they had was so overwhelming that we could take out a 600,000 man army who had substandard training (Soviet doctrine) and equipment (Soviet leftovers, not prime Soviet tech) within three weeks and have the whole country. That said, the biggest thing he also didn't count was the paramilitary forces, which would have come in very useful at holding terrain for the main military forces. France's numerical superiority with their air power and the cruise missiles would be ideal for a bait and hammer approach to the Spanish, where they lure in the main Spanish force only for them to annihilate them because they can identify their targets more quickly and effectively than the Spanish.
@Zach Omara Well but we Spanish aren't Iraq and you French, with all my respect, aren't the US either. I can only see the US as the only nation that could completely invade successfully Spain. Probably China and Russia have the potential too, but they have no way a close power projection than the US and its navy. So yes, probably only the US. Not saying the French military is sustancially superior than the Spanish, and you could beat us at any given external territory or if the Pyrenees didn't exist. But geography is a thing, a real thing. It has made us to fall to Arabs or has avoided the UK to fall against the Spanish Armada Invencible, Napoleon, or Hitler like France did. Cheers.
You're forgetting something. Spain has friends. We Portuguese would certainly help our HERMANOS And show them how a war is won. The UK would help us as well because they always helped. France would stand no chance in practice
TL;DR: France has more ships, subs, planes, choppers, missiles, tanks, soldiers, experience and money. But Spain's geographical position is its best defense and make this war both costly and pointless (everlasting border wars are stupid).
Exactly. An modern army in defensive position, with good use of terrain and power weapons, can destroy a enemy army with more size,or make a heavy price in casualties and materials destroyeds.

I believe it would be far more likely if France were to start off the war with a naval invasion to the southeast of the Pyrenees, possibly near Barcelona - which would hopefully allow French forces pushing over the Pyrenees to quickly link up and push further into spain. In addition, it seems likely that they would support catalonian nationalists, which would likely cause chaos in the region. This video seems to just compare numbers, not really taking strategy into account, sadly.

In fact, the only thing that could invade Spain are the Spaniards themselves.
It is completely impossible that France could invade Spain, nor the Chinese, Russians and Americans together could do it.
This is due to two fundamental factors:
-The geography: The Iberian Peninsula is a complete headache if you want to invade it.

Of course, Spain has won England / United Kingdom, more wars: 19-16
We have also beaten France more times: 15-11, and all the countries in Europe. If you had not been an island the soldiers of Felipe II of Spain would have entered London in one day. Napoleon would have taken another day to arrive, and Hitler too.
England is a lucky poodle.

everyone can win France. they are good in fashion and food.
Bad meme. The maginot line worked exactly as intended but due to political tension with Belgium its original purpose became worthless.

Letter of Jose I Bonaparte to his brother Napoleon Bonaparte in reference to the French military disaster in Spain in the Napoleonic wars during the French occupation (1808-1814) 250,000 French soldiers died on Spanish lands, (200,000 at the hands of the Spanish guerrillas).

@@nigeltheenglishman9020 I believe that France is the most successful power. But only during the reign of Napoleon, which lasted 20 years.
-In the sixteenth century, Spain was the hegemonic military power (until 1640). Spain expelled from Italy, the French, 7 times, invading France many times.
-When Louis XIV of France, fought against Spain, in the second half of the seventeenth century, Spain was in simultaneous struggle with England, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, the Turkish Empire and Protestant Germany. So all the military gains of those countries are thanks to the constant coalition. Spain had a population of 8 million inhabitants. France 20 million. England 7. Protestant Germany 14. The Netherlands 4 ... No empire has been so powerful under such adverse circumstances.
-In the eighteenth century there was a balance between several powers: Prussia, Austria, Russia, France, England, Spain ... It is difficult to decide which was the maximum military power. Prussia and France were infantry powers. But the British navy was more powerful. Spain had the largest world empire, and could recruit millions of soldiers in America, who would have decided all wars. And the gold and silver to finance them well. But there was fear that there would be revolutions in America.

France & Spain are friends and this video is pure fiction, and bad fiction since the author forgot about paratroopers, and the high ground advantage of controlling the mountains.
There's been a lot of battles between France and Spain, in the Pyrenees and around, and there are a lot of fortifications, castles, fortresses, citadels, tunnels, positions that would still be usefull nowadays, particularly in the Pyrénées Orientales region, and certainly in the north of Catalunia too.
Wars in the 17th century costed a lot of lives for both countries, the winner of such a war nowadays would still lose a lot.
Paratroopers and castles? 😂

I am French. I visited the Pyrénées Orientales region last summer. I know what I'm talking about. I'm military, I know what a good firing position is, and what a good fortification is. That's what I've seen there. The flatter coastal region is still mountainous and heavily fortified by both the French and Spanish on each side of the border.
The French government sees themselves as the successor to the US in that regard.
im no expert but surley us britian or frnace would just use navys to smash the countires defences before they even get close to land

French army is-relative-more big than spanish army, but the spanish army is professional and have the same technological weapons than fren army. The orography, size, army and deffensive position of spaniah defense is a nightmare for the invaders.
@@salozinp the french army is the best trained in the World and even train us pilotes and soldiers.... In this fight France win everywere
@@thetrist333 Invading a country the size and population of Spain, capable of mobilizing between the army and the militarized police forces more than 305,000 soldiers, with planes, helicopters, tanks and to artillery, all in NATO level, is a suicide for the attacker, however powerful the army is. French is simply insufficient to invade and occupy a country like Spain. It would take 10 years and thousands of deaths, in addition to an insurgency that would sow France with attacks.
Spain is the 6th army of NATO,has a power professional army, trained in defense of roads, ways, woods and cities, for make a hell to invaders.
@@salozinp and France is the 2nd power in NATO with better tech, number and training than spain...i take for a proof that even the us send their soldiers to be trained by France...also France coule also mobilize a huge number of troop and has an économie almost twice as Big as spain... Also don't forget the separatists mouvements in spain (like catalonia or basque) that would rose up against spain and help France...sorry mate spain has no chance at winning
There would be no reason to fight, we love each other's food too much
I really don't like spanish food D:
Long story short, France wins, but it’s too costly to even be called a complete win.
Who would win between France and Spain??? the Spanish have fun with bulls and are the kings of soccer, the French have fun creating high fashion underpants and shoes.
@@JorgeLuis-gd1wx ?
@@JorgeLuis-gd1wx WTF!!
LMAO, as if France wasnt capable in football and Spain doesnt do high fashion clothes worldwide known
@danemon8423 Spain produces all its armament. And has nuclear capability. In fact is one of the few countries in Europe that produces its own aircrafts and ships.
Could France defeat Spain? No. Once the spanish army kills the first french soldier, the french come in with white flags and #JeSuis hashtags.
France surrender one fucking war
@@donsatan8994 stereotypes can happen rather easily , its sad but its true.
Our soldiers are dying every years in opearation. In mali for exemple 4 days ago one of our medic is dead in mali. We don't surrender , during the world war 2 you just forget that they was the resistznce with degaule and also lot of french people do not considere vichy as french government but resistance in london yes and that make a lot of debats now so go back in school dude

Andorre stress intensified
You forget a little thing. The Spanish Army is not the finest defender of Spain. But the people. The Army is to protect the invaders to come in, because once you are between us, you are vulnerable. And... well.
