    When the Slovenian Army decided to adopt a new infantry rifle in the mid-2000s, the Arex Defense company decided to submit the F-2000 into the trials. The H&K G36 was widely expected to be the winner, but Arex had already been involved in making F2000 parts as a subcontractor for FN, and wanted a chance at a domestic-production rifle for Slovenia.
    The one major hurdle was that the Army tender required the rifle to have a carry handle, which the F2000 does not. At the request of Arex, FN agreed to design a version of the rifle with such a feature, but balked at the extremely tight time frame required. So instead, Arex made their own new upper receiver for the F2000, with an elevated picatinny optics rail and a carry handle beneath. This was entered into the rifle trials and ended up winning. A contract for 6500 of the guns was issued, and they were delivered in 2006-2007. The final design was designated the F2000S by FN (not to be confused with the civilian-sale semiautomatic FS2000).
    Thanks to Arex Defense for giving me access to this rifle to film, and thanks to Polenar Tactical for hosting me in Slovenia!

      They took it to fill most roles, OG model was basically standard F2000 (GL1 & 1.6x optic, with a suppressor) which worked like a marksman rifle (in-game had 2-6x zoom) then GL1 had wide array of stuff to deploy (non-lethal though)
      Later they redone the model to have like actual integrated suppressor (modeled after mk23 one i believe) and collapsible stock (i know from design perspective would've not worked because of the removed buttstock, so bolt would have nowhere to move) on top of making it "modular" as in making 4 configs of it besides GL1 2 stood out, "sniper" & "shotgun", the former added that 1.6x (1.5-3.5x now) replacing C-more red dot & adding bit over the suppressor, the latter horizontal grip with a SPAS-12 looking masterkey

    There was a period in the 2000s when games set in the near future had this and the XM8 as the standard NATO weapons, viz Stalker and ArmA 2 and so on. It's like there's a parallel future that never happened. And this is another video where Ian casually produces an extremely rare gun from just off camera.

    The main reason for the carry handle requirement was because the army was not allowed to just write G36 in tender. But then they were informed by H&K that optics from german version are not part of the export version and suddenly they were willing to give other contenders a chance.

      The trigger is better at AR platforms - since on this bulpup the trigger assembly is long way from firing pin it has that mushy trigger that bulpups were often associated with. This is something that can be solved - I think tavor has nice trigger. Second is the challenging way to clear malfunctions. In Ar style platfomr you can reach your trigger in a action or rock
      a bolt really violently to help clear stoppage. But with bulpup you don't have that luxury due to enclosed nature of the firing action assembly.
      But this beauties truly shine in Urban environment aka CQB. I wish FN would have will and innovation to improve this rifle.

    I always thought these were underrated... I think really the only big thing missing was last round bolt hold, which probably didn't help it in competition. I've fired two of these owned by others at ranges and they feel perfect in my hands, very comfortable and natural. My favorite thing was the fire selector, which I know some people didn't like.

Other than that, it's a completely different setup, being chambered in 308, and based on the FAL internally.

    The problem with many bullpub design rifle is that the case ejection port is close to the user's eyes. When firing continuously, the excess gunpowder smoke irritated their eyes.
    This seems like a trivial matter. But it is very serious. When you are in the heat of battle.
    These things have happened to the Royal Thai Army that used to use the Tarvor as the new standard rifle and then retire the M16, but eventually the Army had to return to using the M16 as before.
    FN F2000 design is very clever. that makes the casing ejection port at the front of the gun.

    I have a replica FN2000, beautifully balanced rifle to shoulder and great for us lefties too! So they required a carry handle...why? And then after all that fuss to create a clever solution for them, they then add an officially adopted optic that seems to have an eye relief which requires it to be mounted right where the carry handle is, making the handle useless..this makes sense how exactly? Lol. Still love this bullpup and its cartridge ejection system though.

    • @boocomban
      @boocomban ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because the shape of the rifle is prevent from carrry it by 1 hand when you not hold the pistol grip.hence, the carry handle help to carry the rifle so you dont have to hold the pistol grip all of time.
      Also it help in prone position, which bring the rifle more to the eyes level.
      Another reason is reduce the hot gas dissort the view. The original rifle have very low profile between the sight and the muzzle. Raise it up couple inches, help to reduce the disortion from the hot gas at the front of the muzzle, give it more clear view when you use iron sight.

      Another commenter said that the carry handle in the army requirements were a part of laser-focusing the requirement to fit G36. Like if you want a specific product or company to win a bid, you describe the existing product / company very specifically, so that even if some other offer suddenly appears, it couldn't fit the requirements. But for one reason or another, the customer cooled off to the H&K's offer, and chose F2000 instead. And it wouldn't have been able to enter the bid unless it had this carry handle.

    • @shovelchop81bikeralex52
      @shovelchop81bikeralex52 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ayebraine yeah but H&K specifically said that the rail on the G36 is not to be used as a carry handle since it's mostly polymer with a bit of steel sheet reinforcement. It's only to be used for lightweight optics and to protect the charging handle/cocking system, stop it getting snagged on kit, brush etc..

    • @boocomban
      @boocomban ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shovelchop81bikeralex52 the sling is also a problem on original F2000. Too close to the front sight so it block the front sight. Remember that F2000 designed to use it intergrated optic like AUg, tarvor as the rifle is a straight line from stock to muzzle.
      The carry handle solve this problem by raise the sight higher as well as moving the sling swivel further from the front sight.
