hi, great reaction. I'm a french old guy (sorry for my poor english), i used to play the guitare for living. Interesting that you were wondering about the key he used in violet's tale related to the mood that provides. You're absolutly right, on top of that the guitar sounds a bit deeper because he adjusted the tuning of the first string in D flat, and we all are used to the usual tuning of that string in E. Funny that i had the same question as you, in the same place, and i had to check on the piano and compare with " Hi Ren" to figure it out ^^

I appreciate your analysis of the trilogy very much.. From all the reactions and analysis of this trilogy, you are the only one who even mentions how he finishes the first two parts - in a minor chord that leaves us thinking that there's something more or next. It's more prominent in Screech's tale, as I immediately noticed the "James Bond" chord. I was so frustrated that no one ever noticed that, until now.. Thank you! And that musical key characteristic was a first! I did find out that he tuned the guitar in Drop D for Hi Ren, but I never made the connection to Violet's Tale! That just got me to subscribe honestly. I was just amazed that you connected that. 👏👏👏 At the time I watched Ren's trilogy, he hadn't made a compilation of it yet (so people would know the sequence), so I found out that he made, or released Violet's tale a few years after the first two. And in Violets tale he kind of gave a clue between Violet and the kids, as he said it was 2-0-0-5 (the year). He released Jenny and Screech's tale in 2019 and he said James (Screech) 14 years old.. so you're right in saying his flow is incredible and his story telling phenomenal. Btw, the Geisha make up is 👨🍳😘🤌
"It's such a shame." = The words actually spoken by a newscaster reporting the actual event of a murder of a young lady by a teen on which Ren based Jenny and Screech. Ren calls back to this in his "Money Game 3" performance with "It's a damn shame". Ren likes to weave concepts and lyrics across his many songs and performances.

Great reaction. In Violets tale you picked up on the different acoustic spaces he uses for his delivery but another interesting part of that dynamic is how they mirror the story. When the narrative of Violets tale is menacing, dark and somber the acoustic space is closed in providing a trapped feeling. When it shifts to her moving out and her search for freedom it widens out into the hallway and the camera and recording equipment fade back. Then as the darker aspect of the cyclical abuse she suffers comes back around with Stevie it gets closer again. Again it fades away into a wider more open space to highlight the narrative of the tragedy, (she never stood a chance), and then again the camera and recording move in tight and close for Stevies violence and the trap her life has become. Every thing is on point and in sync. Masterful. The lyrical rhythmic flow delivers a stunning narrative with clever little plays on words in Screeches Tale. "Our story begins right at the end" closing with "Our story it ends right at the start." Multi-faceted in the play off the words meanings themselves, as well as their placement in the story and their connection to the prior and following tales. There are so many more little gems within these pieces I've come across through many watches. These need to be visited many times to feel their full effect.
He's not afraid to take on hard controversial subjects and shine light on them. Love that about him! Generational violence, incest/pedophilia, a failed foster care system, domestic violence, failed social programs, etc, etc. And he does it in a way that is not preachy. It's like..... "Here, look at this. Now do with it what you will..... and live with the consequences. Your choice." Great reaction! Now you have to react to his newest trilogy. Money Game part 1, Money Game part 2 and Money Game part 3 (just released).
For me, Violet's Tale is far more polished than Jenny's or Screech's with better choice of words and rythmic patterns. It shows he's matured in his art. His physical acting, to me, was the most impressive in this performance, but those falsettos in the hospital using the natural reverb were so haunting that I have looked everywhere to find something similar and I've found nothing. Queen's "Somebody to Love" is the closest to the beautiful tones Ren put on, and I prefer Ren to Freddy Mercury for it, so that says "this guy is a genius" to me.
thank you for the extra work on the subtitle. I love your reaction. I'm sure you will find more songs from Ren how impress you like REN & Chinchila songs (vocals) or the Money Game 1-3 Series (Storytelling and some vocals). If you want to hear him live street performing (Busking), you can hear him singing reggie on the video "The Big Push - I shoot the sheriff/road to zion/Hip Hop".
"How to be me" (live) or "Chalk outlines" (live) versions by Ren and Chinchilla are 2 incredible emotional singing performances. Rens band The Big Push is where he sings alot more, even their covers are their own creation. I love your style of analysis, lots of personality.
My thoughts are simple, Ren, is not just a very talented musician, but a modern day bard with the way he draws everyone into a story, not unlike Shakespeare, this man is next level musical genius, I have no doubt.
Now that you have returned to Ren, I highly recommend 'How to be Me' by Ren and Chinchilla. It highlights more of his singing and has some incredibly good interplay between their two voices. I think you would enjoy it.
Another great reaction. Please do “How to be me” next would love to hear your breakdown of that. On a side note please don’t stop doing your videos in half English and half Finnish your language is beautiful and maybe if I watch enough I’ll learn some!
I very much like the commentary on the vocal styles and chords used. I have no education in music so these things are very helpful to me to get a deeper understanding of what Ren (and whomever else you're reacting to) is doing. I keep the subtitles on so your commentary is seamless to me I just read the English and I forget you're speaking Finnish, which I like the sound of anyway. Suggestions for Ren: all is fantastic it doesn't much matter where you go.
Wonderful reaction as usual. For a showcase of Ren’s vocal ability (and his musical sibling Chinchilla’s!) Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me are wonderful.
First time viewer - Thank you for reacting to this - don't understand any of the Finnish but I could listen to it all day long. I agree it suits these melancholic autumn evenings and is so very dark. I love that there are layers and layers to his work. On the face of it a tale with a twist, but the cycles and patterns of violence are I think the message here. As others have pointed out, Jenny inherited Violets Silence whilst James/Screech has the hair trigger anger and violence (the phone call shows how quickly he flips). The cycle of abuse, of those in the underbelly of society, the helplessness. A agree, he is a totally masterful story teller. There's a live version of the tales from Brighton - a secret gig in a car park - it shows how he can pull this off in a live setting and carry his audience with him. If you haven't seen any of his busking (Big Push) or tracks with Sam Tompkins I can really recommend Blind Eye (MC sessions) - but to be honest you can't go far wrong with nay of his tracks.
This didn't appeal at first but was quite captivated by songs end. I have you to thank Anna. You brought notice to so much with this reaction style. I thought it right on time and needed to bring to light all the elements of his singing, story and guitar work. So a brilliant reaction to a very good entertainer. Quite abrasive this song and seemingly vulgar but then not at all offensive and the lyrics were perfect for impact and the reality he intended us to see. Poor Violet, poor Jenny and poor Screech.
Great reaction again Anna. Always nice to see someone musically knowledgeable absorb & appreciate some of Ren's work. p.s. please take a look at the live capture of Ren & Sam Tompkins doing "Blind Eyed" for Music Crowns.... there is *a lot* of vocal technique there for you to get your teeth into! ;)
Ren's an incredible talent. I see a lot of where he draws from in his individual work in the performances he's done with his band the big push. Really hope to see the band reunite. Their ability to improvise and cover a variety genres is some of the best I've seen in a long time.
As others said, I love that keep some Finnish, it's so beautiful to listen to. Also love the way you point out technical things in the voice, and in the music in general. Violet's Tale, done later, is definitely a masterpiece, with that hauntingly beautiful melody and the guitar play of Ren, then all that tragical story that unfolds and scells the trilogy. As the others said, Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me are a must, then the Money Game trilogy. Personally for Ren's voice I love his busking session with the Big Push, Wade in the Water. Otherwise, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Asaf Avidan, a truly remarkable artist with a unique voice. You could give him a try with 900 Days, for example.
It begins always his way once you go down the Ren rabbit hole so much to see hear and enjoy , this guy is like no other at this moment and time , he genuinely does it all most of the live stuff is great and everything else is in one take if not all , sheer versatility ,acting, songwriting ,rapping , the vibes you get from all of this certainly get you buzzing and more importantly talking , and its so refreshing at every level , the ability to draw you in and get absorbed , modern day pied piper ❤💖

It's quite simply wonderful. A tapestry threaded with strands of Chaucer, folk, classical, poetry, theatre, and served up within a singular cinematic vision. Really enjoyed your insight, bringing alive aspects of the performance I was completely oblivious to.
Great reaction and your Hi Wren one as well. His attention to detail is extraordinary, like the rift he plays signifying reversing time at the beginning of Violets tale he plays forwards after her assault to bring it back to the present.
your reaction with Hi Ren was amazing! This one was the same , just wished you did another Ren sooner! he has a lot more that is so good! chalk outlines live and How to be me live are both very very good too! unless you want SuiSide and For Joe! then he has tons of rap that has blown rappers away! hugs all around hope you do more soon
I love watching your analysis of music videos! Being a muso myself, I love your musical intelligence and how you break down and explain parts. You are pleasing to watch and listen to. I love the way you picked "Oh that's a Minor 6 there" and "that's a minor 9" - music theory for everyone, free! :) In regards to the key that Ren used in Hi Ren and Screech, it's a D minor. Ren's guitar is tuned half a step down and then he's tuned the top E string to D - it's called dropped D in the guitar world. The drop D is what gives songs like Hi Ren resonance. Because he's already tuned down half a step and then tuned the 6th E string to D, he is theoretically tuned that string a whole step and a half down. That low D resonates like a bass guitar and gives his songs a low droning sound throughout passages and that adds to the sadness of his songs. Hardly any reactors to this song pick up that the twins that Violet had were Jenny & Screech (the main characters on the song) therefore making them brother and sister - therefore Screech unknowingly killed his sister. I say unknowingly because Screech didn't know Jenny when he was robbing/killing her. They didn't know each other because after Violet's death, they were probably sent to different foster homes. Keep up the great work Anna. I love your reactions! x
Great reaction, I learned a few things, and I'd already seen a couple dozen reactions to this trilogy. I see you haven't circled back to Ren in a while. If you're still interested, I'd recommend "How to Be Me" which is a duet between Ren and Chinchilla, just stunning.
I love your reaction as its always so insightful. From the key he uses and its meaning, lyrical content, to the musical construction of the song. You say so much even by a distant look, or tilt of the head. Providing the viewer with an emotional connection I think we all feel watching and listening to Ren. Thank you
You are by far the most interesting person I have watched doing reactions to music videos. Your understanding of music theory and your emotional expression are far more than just enjoyable to watch.
I've been diving in the Ren rabbit hole and I came across your reaction. Absolutely love it! I could listen to your voice for hours, even if I have no clue what you are saying. It sounds so magical. ❤
Fabulous fabulous reaction. Your musical intelligence really adds depth to your reactions. Loved this. Not sure how I didn't find you channel earlier!!
I've seen Ren do this hundreds of times and this is by far the best reaction to it. You pointed out many things people miss. You have yourself a new follower. Ren does have a band called The Big Push you might find some of their stuff interesting as well. Not as thought provoking but just another side to Ren (specifically busking in the streets)
I seek out longer reactions to certain ‘songs’, and I especially like the ones that come from the perspective of someone who comes from a place of knowledge. REN is truly special. I think his heart beats like a metronome and his cadence is innate. He has a way of using everything that he has at his disposal to tell his stories - like choosing the streets as backdrops, his guitar and the door as percussive instruments and the echo of the stairway. You can almost see Violet’s “chance” float up and out , into the black night. And I was surprised at how taken aback I was when I first heard Screetch’s “voice”. It was an aggression that I found incongruent with Ren. I held off on watching The Tales because I was processing “Hi Ren” and then “Chalk Outlines “ and “How To Be Me” wrecked me. I look forward to more Ren.
With so many reactions to Ren’s music out there, it’s rare to get a completely unique and learned perspective on it. I can’t wait to see your reaction to more of his music - thank you!
Hi there came over this year to Turku for the summer peace festival to see Aurora but I now have a favourite Finnish artist elsi sloan she was fantastic.
Another great reaction and analysis, Anna. This trilogy hits pretty hard, especially Violet's Tale. When Ren seems to be throwing his voice up the stairwell with the line "She never stood a chance", it gets me every time.
Great reaction. I have been waiting for you to come back to Ren, since your Hi Ren reaction. I'm all in for more Ren reactions. If you're interested in exploring his vocals more, I'd recommend Chalk Outlines (Live) with Chinchila; Earned it/Man's World/Falling with Sam Tompkins (also an amazong vocalist) or I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop with his band, The Big Push (look for the video with Ren wearing red suspenders). If you want more of the story-telling, the Money Game Part 3 is the best choice. For something different vocally, you might want to check out the audio track of Loco from his new album -- Sick Boi. The album is currently #1 in the UK. Enjoy and Happy Halloween!
Deine Reaktion auf dieses Musikvideo von einem außerordentlichen Künstler, ist mein Lichtblick für diesen Tag. Herzlichen Dank und ich wünsche dir viele neue Follower.💯❤
This is the Second Ren reaction from you that i've watched today. And another thoroughly enjoyable and completely engaging video reaction...well done indeed
Reminds me of a wandering minstrel, part of a long, long tradition, time out of mind. He cites those ancient roots with the musicality of his guitar playing as well as with his gait and gestures like he’s playing a lute or something. He even looks like he is wearing modern-day motley in that opening scene. Gives it all an epic quality. Love it.
Wow, this was one of the best musical/vocal breakdowns of this song I've heard so far! You instantly put into words elements that I was hearing but didn't have the expressions for, like the "James Bond chord" at the end of Screech's Tale, or the semi-lighthearted way he ended the tragic tale of Jenny. Subbed! (Finnish is such an ancient-sounding, beautiful language, btw.)
I really like you coming out of the "Finnish shell". I am from Poland and I real enjoyed your reaction without needing to follow the subtitles :) I think you should react to Ren's Murderer.
I also think that this man is an inspiration to all of us, despite his years of hospitalisation, and continuing illness issues, he continues to amaze the world with his talent/music; has surrounded himself with. many friends of also great talent (Including many band mates and singers like the amazing Chinchilla). you, yourself are doing this video because his music has exploded exploded like a bomb, on both TH-cam and the music world.
Absolutely brilliant and interesting level of attention in your analysis. Love it Anna! It's also interesting to get the direct inflection from Finnish. Side note: As an American I get that the whole world is very much used to hearing English streamer narration constantly but it is still unusual for us to hear analysis in non-native tongue. However some of us do appreciate watching movies in original language since the dubbing can absolutely ruin the original inflection.
I would suggest to, support this guy. Right now he is an independent musician. support his channel and get the world to recognise this man, as a musical person yourself, surely you see this guy deserves it.
I was so excited when I saw you checking this one out. Love your breakdowns. As someone who isn't as good at the technical aspects of chords and music, it's a joy to watch. Love it! You called it on being a great actor and story-teller. Besides his musicianship his acting is unbelievably good in all these one-take videos. He could be a legit actor if he chose to pursue that
Thanks for your thoutfll and insightful reaction. Ren is number 1 now in the UK with his latest "Money Game part 3" which is a vocal and visual tour de force, do check it out for yourself you won't be disappointed.
Loved your reaction at 14:00 as you closed your eyes during the chromatic scale….I haven’t seen another reactor become so engrossed and appreciative as you!
First off, love the character makeup! Listening to you, I felt like I was back in a college level music theory course. We had to write a piece without hearing any of it while writing using only theory. The key and mode used like paint brushes and paint to create the picture we wanted to listener to feel. So you looking up the key Ren was in to to see that it matched it to the definition of the feeling of that key was amazing! Thank you for that flashback! Thank you for your beautiful reaction as well ❤
That gorgeously handled lyric in Violet's tale, "she never stood a chance, the devil comes to dance." ugh so beautiful. The airy, ethereal peak as the camera pans to the heavens/ceiling, then the descent in notes and camera as the viewer and Violet come back down to reality... Masterful.
I've never seen someone dive into the musical key and how it affects the music. That was refreshing and I loved seeing/hearing about it! Thank you! Coming from photography/videography side of things (But musically trained as a younger man) I never appreciated theory when I was younger. But now, as with colour theory in my photography, I love seeing how musical theory affects music and mood. So, thank you!!! That was a pleasure!
Very cool to see you get to this one! I agree with you (if I caught your meaning correctly) that this is Ren in his element. Not just the rawness of it, but video. His acting and storytelling chops are so incredible, and with Samuel...off the charts! This duo makes magic, simple as. I think this trilogy is still my favourite, but I like dark things and tragedies, and this almost a classic example, like it could almost be from ancient Greece, and it guts me every damn time, and I love it.
As others have already mentioned. Ren's two collaborations with Chinchilla, How To Be Me and Chalk Outlines are probably the best examples of his vocal talents as a pure singer. His I Shot the Sheriff mash up with his band The Big Push is another great example of his true vocal range. Thanks for the great reaction and looking forward to seeing what you bring us next! 😊
I loved your reaction and your break down. His duets with chinchilla, Chalk outlines and How to be me. Also Chinchilla's live version of Fingers is a amazing watch. Was a bit confused by your spooky makeup, thought it was the lighting. 😂😂 Just me being slow 🐌 lol. Love your break downs. ❤
Awesome you reaction!!! New sub!! Money game 1,2,3 crazy good. Ren is a generational talent, his acting, guitar play, story telling masterful performance 👏. An older song of his blind eyed with sam thompkins was so good. Chalkout lines also brilliant

"Here, look at this. Now do with it what you will..... and live with the consequences. Your choice."
Great reaction!
Absolutely love your reaction and your analysis on this work of art by Ren. Bravo.
Great Reaction - and if you like this trilogy - you sure will be pleased by the Money Games Pt 1 to 3 :D
Love your reaction and explanation and take on things …Would love you to react to REN’s other trilogy, the Money Game parts 1,2 and 3
I very much like the commentary on the vocal styles and chords used. I have no education in music so these things are very helpful to me to get a deeper understanding of what Ren (and whomever else you're reacting to) is doing. I keep the subtitles on so your commentary is seamless to me I just read the English and I forget you're speaking Finnish, which I like the sound of anyway. Suggestions for Ren: all is fantastic it doesn't much matter where you go.
your love for sound really shows in your descriptions and observations. very astute! Great reaction.
Wonderful reaction as usual. For a showcase of Ren’s vocal ability (and his musical sibling Chinchilla’s!) Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me are wonderful.
Great analysis Anna. Ren is a very talented, unique storyteller. Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla is a great collaboration for you to check out.
There are accurate subtitles attached to this - just click the button! ;)
Always nice to see someone musically knowledgeable absorb & appreciate some of Ren's work.
p.s. please take a look at the live capture of Ren & Sam Tompkins doing "Blind Eyed" for Music Crowns.... there is *a lot* of vocal technique there for you to get your teeth into! ;)
Yes, great choice.
Ren's an incredible talent. I see a lot of where he draws from in his individual work in the performances he's done with his band the big push. Really hope to see the band reunite. Their ability to improvise and cover a variety genres is some of the best I've seen in a long time.
Such a good reaction. Please react to Chalk outlines or How to be me. Many of us will surely appreciate it. Stay well and happy ❤
Hey, I've subbed. That was fun & informative. I'll watch your Hi Ren. You're in for some real journey, anything the lad puts out is superlative
☺️🙏🎵
I think the guitar as it relates to the London feel gives a Dickensian colour all the way through each part 🙏
Oh yes! Particularly his in a box version. It’s outstanding.
I'm so late to the party in terms of finding your channel.
So I doubt this would be seen, but nonetheless, I want to say this.
In only two videos, you have become my favorite reaction channel.
The mix of intrigue, knowledge and passion you engage with the videos, plus the emotional connection/expression that you are willing to show is captivating to me.
And with the duel languages, it kinda forces me to be very engaged and paying attention so that I don't miss out on any commentary you're providing, with spoken words or thoughts added in after.
And, I don't know you as a person, but your presence projects a very calming and lovely environment.
I don't know, I don't usually leave many comments.
But felt compelled to do so here.
You have a beautiful soul. The type of person I would be proud to call a friend.
This video is nearly a year old. I'm excited to dive into more of your content.
I truly hope your life endeavors are bringing you joy. And any help you need with any situation finds you swiftly. Cheers ❤️
In regards to the key that Ren used in Hi Ren and Screech, it's a D minor.
Wow 19:14 was cool! Never seen this on other channels!
Happy to provide you with something new and hopefully interesting! xx
LOVE the makeup, and great comments. I learn so much.
Omg iv been down the ren rabbit hole past 2 hrs, and honestly hand on heart, your reactions are just fantastic!!! Keep up the amazing content ❤❤
Thank YOU Tom!😊
by far the very best reaction to Jenny and Screech I have seen. Couldn't take my eyes off you reacting to it.
Thank you very much! :)
Very appreciative of your reaction, bringing something new and insightful. Glad that you found Ren, and new viewers have found you.
Thank you.
Girl, you're so good in doing reactions...!
Hi there came over this year to Turku for the summer peace festival to see Aurora but I now have a favourite Finnish artist elsi sloan she was fantastic.
thank you for reacting to this one, Ren is my favourite artist ever and his album sick boi is amazing sending big love from the UK ❤❤
Love your finnish parts; thank you from Sweden.
This is the Second Ren reaction from you that i've watched today. And another thoroughly enjoyable and completely engaging video reaction...well done indeed
Beautiful! I'm sharing this with my Dad 87 years old. He will love it.
😍🙏🎵
Thank you very much! I'm happy you liked this one. 😊 Welcome to my music family, hope to see you in the premiere live chat some time!🎵
I really like you coming out of the "Finnish shell". I am from Poland and I real enjoyed your reaction without needing to follow the subtitles :)
I think you should react to Ren's Murderer.
I absolutely think this song is wonderful, and also feel you are as well mate. Much love
Amazing reaction
Loved your reaction at 14:00 as you closed your eyes during the chromatic scale….I haven’t seen another reactor become so engrossed and appreciative as you!
🥰
Loved the back and forth in your native language, very good reaction.
Thank you for your beautiful reaction as well ❤
Glad to know you enjoyed this video so much! 🥰
That gorgeously handled lyric in Violet's tale, "she never stood a chance, the devil comes to dance." ugh so beautiful. The airy, ethereal peak as the
camera pans to the heavens/ceiling, then the descent in notes and camera as the viewer and Violet come back down to reality... Masterful.
Thanks for this reaction. I always love your thoughts and your sharing your musical knowledge. Looking forward to more.
Thank you for this reaction! As many times as I have seen this I still learned something new!
Wonderful reaction! Thank you.
I appreciate you taking the time to react more to Ren's art. Please check out more!
Idk why but I love the way you articulate your english, you'd be a great teacher or spokesperson
I am a teacher in multiple different institutions. :) Thank you!
amazing reaction! btw, finnish sounds so beautiful...i like the accent 🙂
Ahhh yess I just love it when ppl realize WHY it's important! 🥰
Been waiting for your reaction on this, very enjoyable. Thank you as always! 👍💙
Great reaction! Money game part 3 is probably his best work yet, but don’t miss the first two parts.
😊🙏🎵
I love your breakdowns and watching your reactions. Thank you for doing more Ren.
Pleasure!
I love your reactions. You have unique and interesting insights that I really enjoy. Thx!
The trilogy is special and your reaction was spectacular. Thank you.
Well done Anna. Nice makeup by the way..Ren is something else..amazing artist. Thank you Anna and have a wonderful weekend.❤
I really enjoyed your Hi Ren reaction... happy you came back for more. I really enjoy your breakdown and hope you do more. Everyone has their favorites, but i have too many to choose from
Might be fun to see some of his versatility... Murderer acoustic version, Dominoes, Dear God and the Money Game trilogy of course
