I’m really sorry for not including the ending. I thought it would be the best thing for Ren to bring more people over to his original video. I don’t know what to do about it, I uploaded the full version to our Patreon after but maybe I should delete this and reupload, I just don’t know. I would just ask you to please not bully me about it. I have had so many comments telling me ‘how dare I do such a terrible thing’… I LOVED this performance. I loved Ren. He brought me to tears, I respect him and his art whole heartedly. If you watch this video, which I spent 10 hours in total filming and analysing and editing in honour of this performance and you are offended, just click off. To be honest, I am really sensitive (you might have guessed that!) and every time I read something mean it destroys my confidence. Just please think before you ruin someone’s day who had benevolent intentions.
I think you're awesome and that was a great video! Thank you for sharing your journey, which takes a lot, and really spoke to my own struggles as well. Please keep doing you and don't let those comments get ya down 😊
I will only tell that it was the best reaction I watched, far and beyond than the others. Please don't apologise for such an excellent work, I myself honestly appreciated your huge effort and makes me sad to read that some offended you.
Pretty sure your video was the first i seen/heard of Ren (THANK YOU) and now a few months later i stopped back to watch again and see this post. Watching a number of your videos, don't see why you would apologize for anything, period, or second guess anything you have posted/uploaded. Personally i see no reason for you to justify anything on your channel. Thank you for your time and insight with this video and all others Ive seen of yours. Keep up the great work and thanks again.
I've watched MANY Hi Ren reactions and I think this is great! Although I do think removing the monologue diminishes the impact of the song, your analysis of the rest is great and you should stand by your decision. Stay strong! New subscriber to your channel :)
Genuinely loved watching this :) ive watched a tonne of people react to my track and you did it in a way i haven't seen done, your words really moved me alot and i appreciate the support
Agreed!! She did a REALLY good job! Thanx Ren for blowing me away with your music, or rather your works of art❤ Just discovered you a few weeks ago and I am amazed! Sending you positve energy all the way to Canada💫 You got this!!
This is a watershed moment in contemporary art. This transcends song form, and breaks new ground in communicating psychic distress and faith in psychological redemption. An astounding masterpiece.
@Robert Ott I find that quite odd. First, he's playing a guitar, and playing it well, and inventively. Second, he uses the call and response technique, which has a long - even ancient - pedigree in a myriad of musical traditions. Third, he utilises something approaching stanza/verse set to a recurring pattern of both rhyme and meter. In short, it's most definitely music, but through incorporating the elements I've outlined he also transcends it. This is sometimes referred to as 'genius'.
@@anomaly3215 In itself, "genius" is not subjective although it is used subjectively, since we are in no place to even make the cut on who is a genius and who isn't. If done objectively and by experts of the craft or art, then you could very well find an objective description of a genius.
@Anomaly That's simply not true. Genius is debated of course, but if the concept was entirely subjective the concept would be pointless. Beethoven wasn't a genius just because lots of people just felt like saying so. He was a genius because he revolutionised musical composition. That's not just a matter of opinion. It's a fact.
One year later, 3 million views has turned into 30 million... and there's hardly a day that goes by that someone new isn't reacting to this. Ren is the most inspiring success story that I can remember in my half a century of life, and the best part is that he's done it without compromising himself or selling out.
Many people have nodded their heads to this genius recently Lolly. You are one of the very few who not only instinctively understand the dark wisdom that permeates this song but can articulate it so fluently to others.
When the ending was left off I was not concerned. We have access to the whole thing whenever we want. Your reaction was well complete and intelligent. When intelligent people make decisions, I have learned to accept them with an open heart. You have heart. You are respected.
Just wanted to tell you that you did great on this! Love your reactions so far! Since you mentioned that you deal with depression, Please 🙏 Please 🙏 Please 🙏 give Charles Cossetti (Mesus) song Freepression a legit Reaction! It's a very therapeutic song! You would really appreciate the piano too!!! Check it out.

I absolutely love your reaction to this song. I love it even more that you intend for people to go to Ren's video to see his story at the end of this song. Its a way to support him and his music for people to watch his videos as well. I feel like it is more meaningful for not only the viewers but to Ren himself. I think it was a great move. I am sure Ren appreciates your support in all ways. We all need to bring each other up, not tear them down. And your sensitivity makes you the sweet and kind person you are. I'm am here for you!
I literally come across this epic creation 15/20mins ago, I can honestly say this is the first time in my long life a piece of music has truly spoken to me. The word genius is an incredibly overused word bestowed upon people who rarely deserve it and yet it is a word that cannot adequately celebrate this young man! I am speechless.......WOW!
I've watched over two dozen reactions to this song and this was by far the most educational one, there are people that turn it into a 30 minute video and manage to add nothing. I've also not seen this format where someone reacts to the entire thing without pausing it then goes back in and edits in their thoughts afterwards, although most reactors barely take the time to edit their videos if at all, this somehow feels more respectful to the music itself. You've got my sub.
Hi, I agree this was a good and informative analysis/reaction to this video, and I also agree that so many people are putting out half hour videos about this particular track and yet add nothing, so I'm glad I happened upon this one. I don't know if you already watch them but there's a channel called "the charismatic voice" I think the woman who's channel it is, Elizabeth iirc, comes from a western classical opera singer background and she is very well versed in her field and puts out some wonderful vocal and musical analyses of all sorts of different music that is usually new to her, and she makes really compelling and informative videos too that are respectful of the track she is viewing. I found her channel when she did a reaction to Deutschland by Rammstein, and I was blown away by her interpretation and insight, if you don't know the channel it might be one that you would enjoy, although I am not aware of her having looked at anything by Ren (yet!)
As far as respecting the original artists music I don't see how that is possible in this reaction. It was edited to remove certain words (that youtube has decided can't be used in monetized videos) and the entire portion where he talks about his true battle was completely removed (although she does tell you to go watch it on his channel) I just don't see this as respectful to the artist and more about being able to monetize her own video. I usually like her reactions but I just can't get behind her on this one.
@@traviswilliams6140 no? editing it out is smart because it encourages people who haven't heard the original song before to be forced to go to ren's actual video if they want to hear the end, which gives him the deserved view
I gathered a little background on Ren from his posts and an interview. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, and joints. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments and will have to be there for at least six months. Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, thyroid, adrenals, and bones. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times.
Well said friend. Respectfully ask your permission to repost your comment on Facebook & credit it to you of course.. REN has given an incredible & moving insight into internal struggles that we all have & you have given us the background story. In my mind they should go together. XOX from Australia
@@donnaroberts4565 Thank you for your kind words. Feel free to repost it anywhere you like. This is all publicly available information. Ren is truly amazing and a gift to the world.
No chance of that anymore. As you say how frustrating to be exploding across the internet and you’re back stuck in a room getting treatment, but the world will wait for it now. We got a taste and we’re gonna press that food lever like little lab rats to get more. :)
As a Guillian Barre survivor losing the myelin is terrible as it conducts electrical signals from nerves to muscles to move. 7 years is terrible as it took 3 er visits to diagnose Guillian Barre and then I developed RA Rheumatoid Arthritis which went undiagnosed 2 yrs following the GBS, doctors thought i had nerve pain from gbs, and the RA caused permanent connective tissue damage in neck and shoulders. So once you get one autoimmune disorder its always wise to check for others.
This is ridiculously high quality to exist as just a YooToob comment. Well said sir. I hope you're posting this across the myriad reaction vids. All the best from a random music (& humanity) appreciator in Scotland.
I have watched soooo many Hi Ren reactions. Yours is the first that mentioned something that I have thought regarding the end vocal. I think it is quite evident that the shadow/despair version of ren is not gone, but has been accepted. This is given away by the lights flashing madly as they do in all the shadow verses, and this merging has given the vocal much more power and depth than the first iteration we see at the beginning. Loved your analysis, keep up the good work.
I'm sure other people may have already mentioned this, but for any future reactions to Ren - you don't have to worry about copywrite with his songs. He allows (and appreciates) reactions to his music in full
Dear, 'the exciting ginger lady', I genuinely love your reactions. It's beautiful to watch someone with unfiltered responses. That['s not a criticism - it's refreshing to everyone around you. I was once described as "an open book" - it took me 30 yers to realise that was a cmpliment.
I just KNEW you'd see EVERYTHING in this song!!!! It is so brilliant! THANK YOU!!! I loved your reaction too. I could see how you heard "Ren" and took it as "Wren", it hit deeper than just crying, instead of your heart, it hit your soul. Nice. I keep editing this because I see so many other things, like how much your production has changed over the years. Well Done! ALSO, Ren is totally independent and will never copyright strike people. He comments on reactors often. I mention this so you can check out "The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full)" in confidence. Warning, it's darker, being closer to real life fantasy.
Suffering from double depression and depersonalization myself for decades by now, I am deeply impressed by his way of dealing with his diseases / demons. A musical / theatrical and especially human experience of its own.
I am browsing through your channel for 3 hours straight now, watching different videos, and I need to tell you: You are so wonderful! It's pure bliss to watch you react with honest joy to the different music! One just feels that you are genuinely passionate about it! You got this cheery, positive, emotional aura to you that makes one enjoy to watch and listen to you forever. And on top of it your analysis is so fascinating! Especially to me, who loves music immensely, but who is kind of 'tone deaf' and can't catch on anything that is truly going on there without it being poibted out and explained to me. So you analyzing it bit by bit and even demonstrating certain passages in your videos by singing yourself or reproducing any sound effects you can make with your vocal chords... it feel wondrous and utterly fascinating to me. I just love it. So, please, continue to make those beautiful videos and don't ever doubt yourself no matter what other ppl say to you! I will keep following you and watch your videos. Thank you so much for it! ❤❤❤️
Oh my goodness what an absolutely beautiful comment to make, thank you so much 💜 It means so much to me that you’re enjoying it over here, and it really does inspire me to keep going. I feel very lucky to have read this. Thank you again. X
I’ve said it before, but you always handle these more emotional songs so well, responding to the overall experience while also giving us such a detailed breakdown. So thanks for doing that again.
You are ridiculously genuine and have an entirely human response to this, which is completely devoid of being contrite. Not only do you react unashamedly with an open heart to this, you then deliver a fantastic technical analysis of the journey and intent of the vocal and musical nuisances that intertwine with his performance and message, highlighting further the sheer brilliance behind this piece of art. I have been deeply affected by this song as like many others. It is unashamedly raw and honest raw and honest and I think you sum it up perfectly when you use the word brave. I have acute OCD, ADHD and PBD, family history of mental illness and I have used music as my healing both writing, playing and listening my whole life, looking for other wounded people who can relate, because when you share emotion in this universal way it is special, when it's your own music that someone connects with, it takes some beating for emotional connection. I've watched every reaction video on this I think looking for validation of how deeply this has effected me and you have provided that wonderfully, so thank you. I think it's testament to your skillet and life experience that you shared in return an emotional response for the man himself. Almost like your message back to him as the validation of his message, but more importantly as almost a counsellor to say its OK Ren, I see you, you're doing great x
@TheSWZA OMG all i can say is drinking a smoothie while reading that was a BAD decision 😅. I totally missed that! That's hilarious 😂 That's my credibility down the pan
Ren is a life-changing artist who transcends genres and seems to connect with everyone who hears his music. He projects a raw emotional honesty that is incredibly unique and genuine and honest in a way that I have never heard before. And, to top it all off, he is just getting better and better! So happy to see you react to him as you are also unique and amazing. Two of TH-cam’s best intersecting is about as much as any of us could ask for! Cheers from Texas!
He feels this with every part of his body, he spits while he is his negative subconscious and in his monolog he is actually crying, this meant so much to him and it shows. I cry every single time I watch it
It's beautiful to watch . I been here all week I am not a youtube botherer at all but I cant stop watching the react vids to this and now his other tracks It's beautiful to watch him get the recognition he deserves I've not been so excited by an artist for years!
Me too. I've watched dozens of reaction videos to this. I've never ever watched a reaction video before. Didnt know they were a thing. Ren certainly has made an impact on youtube
I'm not one to spend much time on YT, but weirdly I have watched loads of reactions to Ren's masterpiece, and yours is the only one I'm saving - such a fantastic reaction, combining musical knowledge (which I appreciate as I have none), high EQ, compassion, intelligence and life wisdom in one so young - a wonderful embrace of and tribute to this young man's amazing opus. Great work, thank you! (Oh wait, I also saved Justin Hawkins' reaction, but that's Justin Hawkins', woo!)
I thought I was subscribed already. I relate to both Ren and your reaction of his performance. I've suffered from a psychotic illness for about 13 years, causing me to hear voices very similar to the one Ren portrays, and sometimes worse. His speech in the end holds so true for me. Fighting my illness hasn't been the answer. Trying not to worry about what I can't change and focusing on doing the best I can with the hand I've been dealt has made all the difference. It gets better with time, perseverance and patience with oneself. Thanks for sharing your reaction and analysis.
the way this song is written is the rawest and most visceral interpretation of a bad conversation with yourself i've ever heard, and i love it for that
I've watched dozens of reactions to this incredible performance by Ren over the last week or two and I must say yours is one of the best and most enlightening I've seen. Really enjoyed your explanations and viewpoint on this masterpiece. Thanks.❤
The sweetest reaction I've seen, not pausing the video is totally understandable, I've cried every time I've heard this song and and I loved that you did the same 😍
1st time seeing your videos and I just gotta take the time to mention how great a job you did on this reaction. Super insightfull, professional analysis and I got to nerd out on the theory and more musical side of it. Excellent job noticing all the little details particularly from the musicians lens and how it all ties together to make this art. Also really enjoyed your well done editing and humor, bonus points for the cutback clips with written explanations or examples to explain what you would be trying to convey. Very impressed, will be checking out more of your content!
This is the video that introduced me to your channel. It has always been my favorite, and I've watched it about 3-5 times over the last year. Seeing how this song struck you was the best part of this video experience. It moves me like this every time I watch it, and I get to experience it again for the first time every time I watch another reaction video like yours. Thank you for what you do and for your genuine reactions to good music. You have earned every one of the 278k followers you have. Congrats on your success.
This is a weird listen as a therapist, it feels like a musical version of a session. That idea of "it feels like a failure when it comes back" is a REALLY good point, and why one of the most important parts of therapy is FINISHING therapy: a good relapse prevention plan so you can STAY well is arguably more important than getting well in the first place. Always important to recognise the difference between a LAPE and a RELAPSE. Don't lose the perspective of how far you have come. Much love Wren
Ren posted this update on his health on Friday, 27, January 2022: "I don't know why I find it so hard to share this information, I guess because I never wanted to make my health problems my identity, I feel like Ren the person is so much more than Ren the health victim, but if this journey I'm on can help anyone else going through the same thing, its worth swallowing my pride. A lot of people have been asking me for my treatment update, and ive been replying individually but then getting a lot of emails and messages which is quite overwhelming to try and respond to them all, especially during treatment, so I'd be super grateful if anyone sees comments on my videos/posts etc asking how treatments going if you could point them in the direction of this post. I've been treating here in canada for the past week and a half now. I sat down with the doctor and he explained last week that through all the extensive testing he did back in October, including lots of blood work ups, X-rays, samples etc. and MRI scans of my brain that the damage to my body from a having misdiagnosed Lyme disease and autoimmunity was quite extensive. There was significant damage to parts of my brain and many inflammatory markers in my body. The obvious markers of pathology were antibodies to the myelin in my brain, thyroid, adrenals, and bones and a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder which would explain my symptom picture quite well. To put it simply my immune cells have been attacking my own body. Because my immune systems been compromised by years of basically being at war by itself it has also held on to some long standing viral infections and not been able to detox things like mold/heavy metals/and toxins properly. Initially the plan was to be here for 3 months but because of the complexity of what's going on he's said i'll need to be here for 6 months minimum. It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family and a successful career and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but thats life, we take the good with the bad. The good news is because we now know what's wrong, we now have a road map for healing. I know its not going to be an easy path, but I know its one i'm determined to walk. I had to quit smoking cold turkey last week for obvious reasons while going through treatment which was one of my crutches for when I was stressed, so have felt the withdrawals messing with my mood a bit this week, but I've got a solid reason to quit, so I'm just bareknuckling it. I'm currently going into the clinic for IV's every Monday to Friday for an hour, firstly trying to build my body up by correcting all the nutritional deficiencies that were found due to being on a restricted diet for so long, and also implementing a lot of stress reduction techniques to get my body optimised for healing. Also found some low grade inflammation from some dental problems so will be going in for surgery to correct that in February to ensure there's nothing contributing to inflammation in my body. Once i'm in a stronger place to deal with it I'll start treating with antivirals and more aggressive treatments. The most positive thing, is I looked my doctor in the eye, who is used to treating countless very complex cases, and asked him, if there's a chance I can get back to being in a pain free body with the energy of a healthy person, and he said if I stick to this, there is a good chance I can either get my autoimmunity into remission and recover or at least make enough improvements to live a much more comfortable life. Want to thank everyone for supporting my music because that's been the best silver lining to this I could have asked for, reading through comments of support for Hi Ren and Sick Boi has really elevated my spirits, and having an exciting future to look forward too makes this process much easier, so thank you! Ren"
Lolli, you have quickly become one of my favorite reactors. Your knowledge and phenomenal talent (which allows for incredible demonstrations of the techniques you are reacting to) are a part of it. But it is your emotional connection to music that keeps me coming back. I discovered Ren and this extraordinary piece of art about three weeks ago, and I haven’t been the same since. It touched my soul in a way that was startling. I think those of us who have “stood in the flames” as Ren says connect to music, especially pieces like this, on a very visceral level. It confirms my belief that with great pain comes great beauty. I hesitated watching anything else for two weeks after. I couldn’t imagine anything touching me like this piece did, and frankly I wasn’t ready to break the spell. Then two days ago I watched “Chalk Outlines,” a collaboration between Ren and an extraordinary artist named Chinchilla. I am almost 53 years old, a father of three, and I literally burst into tears at the end of Chalk Outlines. Whether or not you react to it here, I urge you to watch it. I think it will move you. Thank you for this lovely channel. You are facilitating human connection, and people are desperate for that right now. What you do matters more than you know.
The best breakdown and reaction to this video I've seen and I've seen an unhealthy amount of these reactions lol. I love this. So raw and honest. Definitely said exactly what it was. New sub. Amazing!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ a superb reaction as usual...I adore you. I've been obsessed with Ren's music for weeks and will get back to the rabbit hole directly after this 😂
I really really liked your reaction and what you picked up in the music and Ren's amazing vocal gifts. And what you said at 9 minutes - that is why this is so powerful - Any one, or i should speak personally i guess; this is how mean an inner voice can be. And when i heard this, i had never heard Ren before - i had to hear this often because Ren's powerful hope - I cry nearly every time i hear the song, at the same time i feel some thing hard in me has melted. and i can't find words. for the first time i'm afraid my illness with kill me - rather than me taking myself out of the illness. Absolutely inspiring. I am grateful to this amazing young man. i could wish for half that strength .here comes end , time too cry again.
You’re one of my favorite reactors and how I missed your reaction to this I’ll never know but I am glad. I’ve enjoyed watching tons of Hi Ren reactions where people have highlighted bits and pieces before seeing yours where you grabbed all those details and more. What an amazing analysis.
I love your channel! I live in Hendersonville. TN on Johnny Cash Blvd. What a beautiful piece this is. I've grown up in Nashville and we watched The Grand Ole Opry as a family every Saturday night after Hee Haw. You have such talent laced in your commentary it's very immpressive.
“How to be me” is also a beautiful song by ren, he speaks about how he feels he has lost himself after losing his bestfriend to suicide. It’s so powerful and emotive I really think you’ll enjoy it and would love to see your reaction and breakdown of the song. New subscriber here and have seen many reactions to this song, yours has been one of the most insightful and raw ones I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing his talents to more people :)
I've watched maybe 100 reactions now, and this is prob the most insightful and heart felt one. Also not including his spoken word so people have to go to his page, genius!
I was here for the premiere and I am glad I was. A truly honest, raw reaction to this masterpiece of work. Ren is a true artist. This video was recorded live in one take, for as he said in a blog post, "Less than a thousand pounds". He did the mastering himself and the sound quality makes my picky ears happy. The message this piece conveys is something this world needs now, more than ever. "We are all human beings." Just so, so awesome. Much love from the southeastern US, Atlanta.
It's a truly great performance, but it's not one take. There are a few edits. They aren't hidden and I've never seen Ren say it's one take, so I don't think this is a secret The most obvious edit is when he takes his guitar off. Check out the positions of his hands As I say, it doesn't matter that there are edits. This is something very special - a once in a generation moment
I've watched a very shameful amount of reactions to Hi ren and yours was clearly one of the best I've seen. I feel like you really lived the performance so intensely and I know it was such a unique experience when I saw it for the first time. I'm happy you got to feel all those feelings too ❤ I'm subscribing right now ☺️
I can't believe you only have 177k subs. Don't want to compare to other people but doesn't seem right. You walk that fine line between reaction and analysis so well. Genuine yet honest.
Probably watched Hi Ren over 100 times in the last few months since discovering him, including many many reaction videos. Sometimes I get shivers, and sometimes, like watching this one, I can't help but she'd tears with the listener. Great analysis and loved the raw, emotional reaction 🙏❤️
Beautiful reaction. Illuminating more of his genius than I have divined through watching this song and the innumerable reaction videos. Thank you, fantastic job. Subbed.
You are my favorite reactor/analyzer on youtube. You are just that special. I don't know how I missed this. I thought I'd found all my reaction channels from Hi Ren, but I guess it was another of yours where I first found you. His video is a beautiful performance and oh so touching.
I am always drawn to how he refers to “… and I stand here beside you today.” Anyone else would say “…. Stand here before you…” but Ren is beside them. He’s not an outsider standing apart from the audience… he’s one them, standing WITH them. It’s a subtle difference, but it matters.
Brilliant reaction and break down. I love what you said about how there were so many human experiences in the song, and at least one of them is bound to flow into our river. That was beautiful. I also had some kind of awakening in that musical change at about 10:05, the first time I heard it. This is where I feel Ren was really able to connect us together. How I see it, he was telling us that his demon is our demon. This wasn't just Ren's inner demon that was his, and his only. This was Ren telling us that everyone has this "same" demon. It just does different things inside different people, depending on their lives, or situations. "I am x, I am y, I am z". The demon was basically saying I am the cause of everything. Any bad shit you can think of, he/she was the cause of it. That was really explosive to the story of the song. He did that so well, and it gave me this immediate thought that all the bad thoughts I've had in my life, come from the same place that Ren's bad thoughts came from. This being is in all of us, and we could technically see it as the same being. We think we're very different, and that no one gets us. But this song just showed how similar we are.
Hey, I'm new to this channel. I've just watched dozens of Hi Ren - Reactions within the last few weeks and I need to point out that yours is one of the better ones :D Loving all the technical informations, your live watching and the deep analysis. Thanks a lot
Hii! First time watching you, i’ve been going down the Ren rabbit hole for a few weeks now. Watched tens and tens of reaction videos from his different songs. I have to say, this is by far the best I’ve seen. With a perfect touch of empathy, humanity, vocal and musical knowledge, but also a great capacity for analyzing structures and patterns to adequately expose subtle symbolisms gracefully inserted in this song. You’ve won my sociologist heart, well done! Can’t wait to watch more of your reaction! 😊
I watch a lot of reactions. I've been watching a lot of (100 to this song) Ren reactions. But it's rare that I re-watch reaction videos. But this is an amazing exception. I could listen to her analysis and commentary 24/7. Nobody else is not only that knowledgeable and profound, but also so humane and real, honest, likeable, understanding and just over all nice. Thank you for making these great videos, thank you for being exactly you and thank you for combining both and gifting us with the result.
This is probably the best breakdown of the song I've seen so far. Both because you analyzed it musically and because you connected with it emotionally and personally.
@TheFairyVoiceMother what a beautiful, soulful, and genuine experience you shared with us. I have seen a lot of reaction videos and I felt you do not react, you allow yourself to become a medium to experience the music you are listening to! I was moved not only by the brilliant music of @RenMakesMusic but also experienced his music through your experience! From Dimash to BeatBoxers and from Nightwish to Ren you always stay true to who you are - a beautiful, sensitive, humane being - grateful to life I get to experience your love for music - I have been where you are and sometimes reluctantly pushed to those dark corners, but music brings me back to joy -- thanks again!!
@@TheFairyVoiceMother all power to you to be the joyful and radiant and funny soul you are - for me along with Harry Mack (who you must do soon without fail, a true genius of freestyle rapping with all caps for emphasis), Dimash, you are a constant - my faith in humanity is always restored or strengthened!!! Thanks for taking the time to read my feedback!
This is me coming back to watch and listen to Ren's song and hear what our Fairy says to be mind-blown again. Love you two, happy new year and wish you a quick recovery, our Fairy 💐
Thanks for watching the piece through before your analysis! So many have broken it up and diminished the overall impact with pauses for part analysis. His performance was raw, real and open - something that sadly doesn't seem to sell in the modern market. He speaks truth from his life with talent and passion, which is probably why this piece has attracted so much attention in the 'reaction community'. Self-reflection and bravery are, imo, the core of impactful art.
Actually, it's very interesting, that a monologue that tries to demonstrate several characters at the same time is such a classical artform in japan (it's called rakugo, just in case you never heard about it), someone had the ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT idea of putting that in a musical style, and made it so vulnerable and so personal at the same time. Congrats to him for making it like that.
Oh gosh, thanks for reminding me about the Rakugo "fallen word" art form... I've seen a couple of the joke stories before, and although I'm sure some gets lost in translation, they are very entertaining. I'll need to see if any of those are on TH-cam... I appreciate your comment, the reminder of another cultures art, and how similar humans all really are.🙂
I’ve followed this song from its original video through many many reaction videos. It’s my absolute favorite right now and I love to see others reaction to it. Yours is by far one of my absolute favorite reactions. Thank you for effort into this video. You earned a like and a sub 👍🏼 wish you all the best!
As someone that is chronically ill and mentally ill, the entire Hi Ren gripped me by the throat and entirely choked me up. Ren is a master in our day and age.
Each time I watch you, and that's quite a bit, I wonder why people like you are not in the forefron of the world. The world just needs more people like you. Actually have the chops to speak on the things that they are reacting to. Beautiful inside and out. You are a genuine peach of the human race. I cried when he stood up as I have been in recovery for 20yrs and although my thing was SA, I can relate to the struggle. Please keep doing what you are doing. You motivate me to be a better person, and I Love you so much.
What an amazing song! Nice reaction too. I've taken singing classes with Ren's mum, who is a singer, songwriter, voice coach and choir leader. It really helped me a lot.
There are endless reactions on TH-cam to almost every song you can think of. No one does it like you. Truly great and insightful. You’re also a beautiful singer and I love to hear your singing voice every now and then when you react
I don't often comment, even though TH-cam is my main source of entertainment. I watch a lot of music analysis, and I (like a lot of others here) just want to say that you are the best I have found here. Your technical insights, your wit and your passion for music make you a delight to watch and learn from. I get the feeling that you're genuinely experiencing the music, which is what I always hope to see, but rarely do. Thank you for what you do, and thank you for this wonderful video. PS-not including the ending was a perfectly fine choice, and I respect you directing people to Ren's channel to listen to it.
Don't worry, I've watched almost every reaction to this song and I also cry almost everytime. That part where he stands up gets me. I've been trying to "stand up" for a long time now. I'm getting closer everyday. Life is hard, but can get better.
I’ve watched so many different reactions to this song and stayed with me the most. The way you explained your take on the song around 16 minutes is exactly how i felt. All of my life I’ve been drawn to music and creating music but I’ve always felt down on myself for many reasons and kept my music to myself never thinking that anyone would want to hear things I have to sing. The very first time I heard Hi Ren I felt that nothing had ever resonated with me like this song does. It really helped me accept my shitty side and accept that there’s always going to be this side of me that I’m not going be okay with but I can’t let it stop me from living my life
I really like this style of analysis. When you watch the whole video without stopping, you never lose the mood and we see your genuine reaction to it. I think you should try this more often even though it's a pain to edit.
Great reaction! I watched tons of Hi Ren reactions so I wasn’t expecting any new insights. Yet you provided a wonderful perspective and great insights into this performance. Well done!!! Keep up the great work! ❤
One of the most real reaction videos I have seen. You can watch every bit that cuts you up, and every bit that lifts you up. Thanks for this wonderful reaction video. Well done, luv.
Beautiful commentary, Lolli! Gosh, the performance is captivating yet disturbing at the same time, simply brilliant. All the best to Ren and his healing journey.
I've watched a bunch of reaction videos for this song and I really like the format you used here. You get to show a genuine first impression/reaction without needing to come up with things to say about the music on the spot, and then the inter-cut commentary clearly has a lot of thought put into it and was therefore a lot more interesting and informative than most. Best of both worlds, really nicely done!
Very interesting. I think everyone has at least two voices within, but most aren't quite as diametrically opposed to each other as this man's "voices" are. Anyway, FVM, you are clearly an intelligent and insightful person. I believe you've analyzed this performance as accurately as was/is humanly possible. I do hope the performer can conquer his demons and produce some awesome music in the future.
Wow, such a fascinating and acutely observed analysis bringing to light and helping me see things I'd not noticed both technically / musically or vocally that's brought a new dimension to this piece that I've already watched untold times with untold amazing reactors. I feel I really learnt something entirely new here with yours. New subscriber courtesy of the wonderful genius Ren as I'm keen to learn more from you.
All I want to know is who in the holy **** would downvote this. Probably the best breakdown I've see of this performance This 'song' is the greatest thing I've heard in a long long time.
Thank you for your reaction. I like how you describe the changes in the melody and the voice, when Ren switches his inner voices. I think this song is so well performed in every detail, that this alone would give goosebumps everytime I hear it, but of course those lyrics are so on point and true and wonderful. For me the moment of this song is, when Ren stands up. This is always an overwhelming moment for me and it shows a way how to deal with the dark inner voice a little better... next time I will just stand up (literally).
Thank you for being exactly who you are and for all those leaving hate comments I hope you can fade them out with the swathe of positive ones you get. Your empathy and your emotion towards this and other songs previous is wonderful and I share that emotion with you. Crying as I first watched and crying again watching your analysis. You are a wonderful human. ♥️
You definitely gotta check out Ren x Chinchilla- Chalk outlines, amazing vocals by both of them, keep up the amazing reactions much love you've definitely earned a subscriber
I honestly think this format is brilliant. We get to watch your genuine reaction and then have your thoughts cut in after you've put them together on the different aspects.
big compliment! by far the best reaction I've seen so far...also really appreciated to dont show the hole video insted a link to his channel at the end to support him...first class
I thought you did an excellent job dissecting a truly brilliant song. I’ve watched many reaction videos to this track and yours stands out as professionally approached and insightful. Could you please do the same for “the Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version), also by REN. I would love to hear your take on this trilogy of songs. Thanks.
Well said, and as Ren himself would say, "we should be building each other up."
HI Ren (get it haha)
You’re much appreciated Ren, thanks for all your great art.
Agreed!! She did a REALLY good job! Thanx Ren for blowing me away with your music, or rather your works of art❤ Just discovered you a few weeks ago and I am amazed! Sending you positve energy all the way to Canada💫 You got this!!
Thank you for this song, Ren.
Word, this was a great analytical breakdown. P.S love your throwback to Beastie Boys, the video had me laughing my arse off.
I have listened to this song over a hundred times now, and I still tear up and get chills every single listen.
Glad it’s not just me!

So powerful
You're not alone!
Same here brother
This is a watershed moment in contemporary art. This transcends song form, and breaks new ground in communicating psychic distress and faith in psychological redemption. An astounding masterpiece.
This may be art, but I don't consider it music. But that's just me.
@@StonefieldJim4 genius is subjective and based on perspective, so it has no definitive meaning since it means something different for everyone
Ren is a unicorn. A fabled beast that shouldn't exist, but here he is. Love the reaction!
One year later, 3 million views has turned into 30 million... and there's hardly a day that goes by that someone new isn't reacting to this. Ren is the most inspiring success story that I can remember in my half a century of life, and the best part is that he's done it without compromising himself or selling out.
His health worsended and every support is helping 🙏
Many people have nodded their heads to this genius recently Lolly. You are one of the very few who not only instinctively understand the dark wisdom that permeates this song but can articulate it so fluently to others.
Thank you so so much Michael 💜
When the ending was left off I was not concerned. We have access to the whole thing whenever we want. Your reaction was well complete and intelligent. When intelligent people make decisions, I have learned to accept them with an open heart. You have heart. You are respected.
That’s such a kind thing to say, thank you 💜
Just wanted to tell you that you did great on this!

You are wonderful. Thank you so much, dear soul 💜
@@traviswilliams6140 Isn't that directed to the first timers being exposed to Ren here a really direct reason to go to his channel?
@@traviswilliams6140check the comment section to this video and see what the artist himself has to say about this.
Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad."
Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment.
"Cower at the man I've become!" Gets me every time.
This message moved me deeply, thank you so much for sharing this Jake. All my love 💜

New sub. Amazing!
Another exquisite reaction. Emotional, informative, beautiful, articulate...You matched the vibe and the complexity of the video. So good!
Never seen any of your videos but you did a REALLY good job. Very impressed.
I love your channel! I live in Hendersonville. TN on Johnny Cash Blvd. What a beautiful piece this is. I've grown up in Nashville and we watched The Grand Ole Opry as a family every Saturday night after Hee Haw. You have such talent laced in your commentary it's very immpressive.
you def need to check out his song "chalk outlines" afterwards. the live version. also a very powerful song
Second this!
Thank you for sharing his talents to more people :)
looking forward to it!
They aren't hidden and I've never seen Ren say it's one take, so I don't think this is a secret
The most obvious edit is when he takes his guitar off. Check out the positions of his hands
As I say, it doesn't matter that there are edits.
Oh wow! I LOVED your reaction and specially your analysis. It was emotive, empathic, musically technical etc Really brilliant! Thank you!
Absolutely stunning, and great analysis as ever. ❤
What a song, blown away 😳 I've never been hit so deep by a piece of music in my 43 years. 👌
This means the world, thank you 🥺💜
@@TheFairyVoiceMother all power to you to be the joyful and radiant and funny soul you are - for me along with Harry Mack (who you must do soon without fail, a true genius of freestyle rapping with all caps for emphasis), Dimash, you are a constant - my faith in humanity is always restored or strengthened!!! Thanks for taking the time to read my feedback!
Well done Love.
Continue to spread the message 😍
The world needs it.
"Gallant" is such a great word to describe Ren.
Damn, commented too soon. Why cut off the resolution?
I've just discovered Ren, and watched about 100 reactions to this song. Yours is simply gorgeous (and smart!); thank you. Subscribed, with enthusiasm!
I appreciate your comment, the reminder of another cultures art, and how similar humans all really are.🙂
I hadn't hear of that, thankyou. I will check it out.
I also caught that thing he did with his voice. I thought he was a touch off key. You are the first reactor to also notice and explain it! Thank you!
His talent is mindblowing. His music is like nothing I've ever heard. Not to mention his acting is amazing too. A true unique artist.
You’re the best music analysis channel I know. Always great depth and knowledge. Thank you
Don't worry, I've watched almost every reaction to this song and I also cry almost everytime.
It really helped me accept my shitty side and accept that there’s always going to be this side of me that I’m not going be okay with but I can’t let it stop me from living my life
wow! this was super authentic, respectful and well done. Thank you :) Whoever reads this, have a great week
I really like this style of analysis. When you watch the whole video without stopping, you never lose the mood and we see your genuine reaction to it. I think you should try this more often even though it's a pain to edit.
Ive watched about 50 reactions to Hi Ren (as im deeply in the rabbit warRen), yours is brilliant, thank you. X
Great reaction! I watched tons of Hi Ren reactions so I wasn’t expecting any new insights. Yet you provided a wonderful perspective and great insights into this performance. Well done!!! Keep up the great work! ❤
That was awesome Lolli is the gift that keeps giving
One of the most real reaction videos I have seen. You can watch every bit that cuts you up, and every bit that lifts you up. Thanks for this wonderful reaction video. Well done, luv.
Its crazy Ren unintentionally made one of the best songs ever produced
Not sure it was unintentional
I love your reactions, not only are you super good at explaining things, but you also get sincerely emotional with songs like this. Keep at it!
I am speechless. I can only say "well done" to the both of you.
Beautiful commentary, Lolli! Gosh, the performance is captivating yet disturbing at the same time, simply brilliant. All the best to Ren and his healing journey.
Ren is a genius. Thanks for doing this
I've watched a bunch of reaction videos for this song and I really like the format you used here.
Probably the best breakdown I've see of this performance
This 'song' is the greatest thing I've heard in a long long time.
Minor 2nd = threat. Subscribed.
This is gonna be good
big compliment! by far the best reaction I've seen so far...also really appreciated to dont show the hole video insted a link to his channel at the end to support him...first class
Thanks.
Yes!! this song is Epic
