Haha, same!!! It's nice for us older Gen Xers to finally have some new music that's worthwhile...so much junk in the last 20 yrs. Ren has given me hope. Love his deep stuff like this as well as his fun rap and his rock stuff.

Silence feels like a threat to those who are violent because then all that is left for them is their wound.
I could write a book on just about ever Ren song... These are a few things I like to mention sometimes.
Jenny's Tale you have to ask yourself what was a 14 year old girl wearing heels and "rosy cheeks" doing at night on a road "she walked a 1000 times before".
At the start of Screech's Tale, Ren starts the song by saying, "A story it starts at the end". Patrick was "missing" and Screech's GF was "Busy" because they were together. Then at the end as Ren does so often he brings it full circle and says, "A story it ends at the start" .
Violate Tale - I LOVE the guitar rifts throughout the ENTIRE song. Ren so often does, he plays the part of Violate here on the bed after the rifts...
(Violate waking up looking around confused as to how she got here and where is here?) With haunting/eerie hymns he sets the stage.
Many catch the rewind . MANY more miss the speeding back up to real time when Ren/Violate wakes up on the table (After the fight between her and Stevie as he starts walking away).
Lastly,
Violet moved out at 16 into a flat paid by a "welfare scheme". It is logical to think that violet was already pregnant by this time. A teenage runaway might have a chance at being a beneficiary of this but a pregnant teenage runaway certainly has the qualifications to be granted this benefit. This was before he met Stevie who most would assume was the father of Jenny and Screech. If what was speculated was true, Stevie did some maths and figured that the numbers didn't add up, the baby wasn't his. He beats up Violet and calls her a "slut" which was quite specific when compared to usual cuss words like "bitch" or "cunt". This would also answer as to why Stevie asked "Why're you lying to me, violet?" And would make the slightly off phrase "Do you think I wanna do this, Violet" fit more consistently into the story.
I just saw the end of the video. So, here is more to the book for anyone interested.
Yes, the twins were split at birth. Jenny was just like her mother Violate (who froze when in fear). Which in return angered Screech (who was like his father, he never knew). Violate froze in fear and Stevie reacted in rage for it. Violate passed, Stevie goes to Jail. Kids get split up in the adoption agency.
Also in the UK, instead of John and Jane Doe, they have James and Jenny, the name of the twins...

@@angelluhman9006 erm, not as far as I know, John Doe and Jane Doe are actually legal terms which originated in Britain. We also use the term Richard Roe (although it is used slightly differently in legal terms to John/Jane Doe, same as the US still does ... eg "Roe v Wade") and, more colloquially, we would commonly say "Joe Bloggs" to denote a character of no specific name but I've never heard of James & Jenny being used over here.
Please bring more of these 2 characters on your show we need more more of a little bit

Yes, Jenny was a prostitute. It's such a sha-a-a-a-ame. Your young female guest is perceptive. Noticing the shock in your faces at the end I am reminded that Ren is an amazing storyteller.

LilBit was spot on with Jenny's profession, but I wished you'd also mentioned that "she wanted to escape". Why did Screech say "a woman"? Remember he said "I'll slash the rosy off your cheeks", Jenny was in a mask of make-up for her work.

Gotta remember hiw mych impulse control a 14 yr old boy has on drugs and raised on the streets. Plus he had either Stevie's violent genes or Violet's FATHER'S genes. It's debatable if Violet was pregnant by her own dad . Ren is very proud of hus work here. Hi Ren,the Tales and Money game 1 and 3 are his true Bardcore. He and Dam have a pilot ready for Netflix series he wants to do. He also says he has another 2 part Tale in the works.

Jenny’s Tale was actually written in regards to a newspaper story that Ren read about a prostitute being mugged and killed near his home town. The following two tales are fictional follow ups to complete the story

They were separated at birth when sent to foster care, so they wouldn’t have been aware of one another. Jenny was quiet like their mother and Screech (James) was violent like their father.

A tale of how violence begets violence. Screetch took on the characteristic of his father and jenny favored their mom, Violet.
Violets tale took place in 2009. Violets death and the kids birth and being put into the foster system thus being separated and never knowing about each other. Always alone and scared for one and alone and angry for the other.
At least that is what I deduced, I could be wrong.

Ok, Violet was molested as a child by her father. Her mother resorted to drink to cope. At 16, she left home, but not before her father had got her pregnant. She soon struck up with a boy called Stevie. In time, he'd done the maths (the kid's not his) and assumed she'd been cheating - "liar and a slut". She couldn't bring herself to tell him the truth. It escalated and he beat her to death. "Fortunately", she gave birth to twins, Jenny and James. As Violet was dead and Stevie was, presumably, locked up, the twins were taken by Social Services.
Fast forward 14 years. Neither twin had done well in care. Jenny was a prostitute and James was a street thug called Screech. Jenny, like her mum, froze at violence and it was her undoing.
Screech tried to seek refuge with his mate, Patrick, but there was no answer at No. 54. Screech, then, called his gf, but she was "busy" (with Patrick?).
Screech, now cornered, decided to take on the law head on... but lost. (In reality, the British police would probably use non-lethal force (tazer) to bring down a boy wielding a knife.)
also it shows that history repeats its self through the lives of the parants to the children, even though they never met there parents, screach ended up like his dad a murderer and jenny ended up being murdered like her mum and violet was brought up sexually abused and beaten , ..maybe there will be another tale with violets parents ? and there tale ........

DING DING DING! Young woman on right guesses that Jenny is a prostitute! You are the first person ever at this point in the video to guess that. Basically, the underlying story is partially due to an actual knifing of a young prostitute in London. Ren mentioned this in an interview a long time ago. The story is about generational violence but there are so many layers you can imagine if you put your mind to it. Jenny is in high heel shoes, wandering down dark alleys 1000 times or more, with rosie cheeks no doubt. Screams prostitute and an easy victim for the likes of Screech. Oh and just for fun: imagine that Screech's friend Patrick did not answer the door because he was with Screech's girlfriend. She did not want to see him when she answered the phone cause she was with Patrick.
Jenny and James (Screech) are names given to orphaned children here in the UK. And they would have been likely to have been split up back in the day. So it's a story of genrational trauma. Grandma, Mum and daughter all stay silent when seeing vilence. mum and daughter victim of abuse. Grandad, Dad and son also abusers. Twins born and died on the same nights. its so layered.
They were brother and sister and didn't know it, like we are A LL brothers and sisetrs and don't know.
The story get even crazier when you realize that the fathe or Jenny and Screech is Violet's father, thats why she got a council flat with wellfare scheme.
Jenny and Screech born on the same day on the street under violent circumstances, and died the same way.

Generational curse,evil father abusive to his daughter mother no help Violet falls for an evil guy,gets pregnant then became a victim and was killed by him. Twins probably fostered out to different people. Everything was put into the past till Jenny and Screech bumped into each other. Jenny became a victim and screech killed, then met his fate. Yes, Jenny is a Pro... and I don't mean professional. "She walked those streets back and forth a thousand times before in high heel shoes" She was 14 so she could not get a job, and because of her job Screetch Knew she might have money on her, and she won't call for help because she works on the streets and no one will come for her.
As for why Screech did what he did with Jenny, Ren put out a set of Instagram stories before the release of Screech’s tale to promote it, which tells what happened to Screech just before he met Jenny in that ally.

Ok, so Screech was not a good lad already and his girlfriend wasn’t feeling it any more, and had started seeing Patrick on the sly - Patrick who was supposed to be Screech’s bro…
It’s implied Screech had kinda got a feel for it and wasn’t vibing with Patrick any more, but was kinda playing along.
Then we learn Screech’s step father beats him, for any excuse and Screech decides he has to get out of there, he can’t take it anymore
So, they set up to go rob this place with Screech, Patrick and another dude.
But Patrick doesn’t show…it’s implied he’s ditching Screech and seeing the girl instead.
The other dude is nervous as hell but Screech is desperate - he’s got to get the money to get him a chance to run away, to escape getting beaten again. This is his one shot to escape…
They break in, Screech finds some money …and a knife…and then the home owner shows and jumps the other dude. Screech panics and bails, leaving with just the knife.
So now he’s already running from that crime scene thinking the cops are probably after him, he’s still desperate for money, he can’t face going home and getting beaten again…and he’s kinda suspecting his girl and Patrick are doing the dirty on him too, so no he has no one - then he sees a woman, and it’s his last chance to escape, but he’s got Adrenalin surging through him already, he’s not thinking straight…and…
Ok - I filled in a lot from my imagination but that’s how I see the instagram stories setting up the mental state Screech was in when Jenny was unlucky to be there and cross his path. It starts with Screech stealing Ren’s phone in the Instagram stories which set up the pretext that it was actually the thief posting the stories on Ren’s instagram account. Apparently the promotion was so convincing, people complained and Instagram were on the verge of closing Ren’s account as they thought it was being abused. So Ren had a choice to keep posting the stories and risk losing his account, or stopping and admitting it was promoting the track - I think iirc, he compromised and risked putting out the rest of it, but all at once to make it more obvious it wasn’t real. I think I remember he explains it that way.
