Great reaction but I have the impression that you may not be aware that the song that brought you here, "Man of Constant Sorrow", was actually performed by this group and in the movie George Clooney was merely lip-synching. Alison Krause is pitch perfect, and has incredible breath control. Listen to her sing. When You Say Nothing At All. Also listen to Rhiannon Giddens: Wayfaring Stranger. For Country I love Johnny Cash, and all the songs on the album for the movie about him Walk The Line are great, but especially God Will Cut You Down sung by him when he was old and sick. One of the reasons that I like Country in all its forms is that you can listen to real musicians, and artists who can sing and also play an instrument. One of the best guitarists is Vince Gill. Give a listen to Tulsa Time with him, Sheryl Crow, and Eric Clapton, and Vince alone with Go Rest High On That Mountain. Oh, almost forgot: Linda Ronstadt with Blue Bayou.

Jerry Douglas, Ron Block, Barry Bales, Larry Atamanuik, and Dan Tyminski are absolute professionals, the best in the business, and Alison Krauss just tops it off at the supreme amount of talent this band has! They are one of my go to's when it comes to listening to great music. One of my all time favorites, which is a cover from the band Shenandoah, is "Ghost In The House". The live version of that is spectacular! Also, Alison's work with greats like Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, and Led Zeppelin's rock god Robert Plant just cement her as one of the keystones of music and musical talent!

I was extremely privileged to see & meet a lot of famous bluegrass musicians as a youngster. My parents are old hippies & every summer we would spend the summers going from bluegrass festival to bluegrass festival. I met a lot of legends. I actually met Alison Krauss the first time when she was just 16-17yrs old & toured with her friend also named Alison. 🤗 You should definitely check out Tim & Molly O'Brien if you've never heard them, but actually you've heard Tim O'Brien in O brother where art thou!

I was one of the millions who bought the O Brother Who Art Thou soundtrack when the movie came out. My favorite song of Allison's is "If I Didn't Know any Better". Her voice in that haunting song is pure perfection.

I pick and choose music from this style as it's generally not my 'go to' but can't deny this beautiful voice and her band.

I have a cool tie in with your love of Constant Sorrow.
The real-life vocals for The Soggy Bottom Boys in the movie were provided by Nashville songwriter Harley Allen, bluegrass musician Pat Enright, and Dan Tyminksi, a guitar and mandolin player on loan from Alison Krauss and Union Station.

The producer of the "O Brother Where At Thou?" soundtrack was T Bone Burnett who produced both albums with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Their first album, Raising Sand, swept the Grammys in 2009.

T Bone Burnett is a damn genius. He put the music together for that movie. There’s also a live show of many of the artists called Down From the Mountain you should check out.

I agree with what you are saying about the string instruments. It’s like the different string instruments are also harmonizing with each other, not just the voice is harmonizing. That unique sound just attracts you to want more. If you want to hear Allison’s voice just mesmerize you war, her cover of the late great Keith Whitley’s song “when you say nothing at all” will do it. But if you hear Keith Whitley’s version first you would never be disappointed. He is the epitome of one of the greatest country voices ever..

Oh what a fun genre! It might be my current favorite, in fact. Alison Krauss is so talented. Some other great artists to check out in this genre: well, there's a compilation album with Alison Krauss that also has James Taylor, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and many other super talented bluegrass artists called "Appalachian Journey." Also, some other great female bluegrass groups and artists are Red Molly, Crooked Still, The Wailin' Jennys, Sarah Jarosz. There are so many others, too. One that I would *love* to see you react to is Chris Stapleton when he was in the group the Steeldrivers. Omg, they were so amazing together. They're still a great group! But of course when Chris was with them, he added his Chris touch. My two favorites of theirs are Ghosts of Mississippi and Blue Side of the Mountain. They have a lot of great ones. Chris and Patty Loveless recently did a live performance at the 2022 CMA Awards for the song You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. Red Molly sings a fantastic version of the same song, as well. Sigh. I believe I've given too many recommendations, but if you consider listening to even one more bluegrass song on this channel, you may have a hard time not listening to the genre's entire catalog. Enjoy!

I have said exactly the same thing. I saw Alison and Union Station during this tour, and he is absolutely correct. They are perfect every time. You might as well be listening to an album. But, they have been playing together since Alison was 14 years old. She and Dan met each other when they were 14, and I've seen a video of her playing with Barry when they were both so young!
