We haven’t done a side by side with a chisel plow that I can remember. We have a couple fields this year that we disk ripped half and moldboard plowed the other half! Thanks for the comment.
I think I’d get a pretty good yield jump if I turned some dirt on corn ground, but we’re hitting g 22 years of no till, and it has its benefits as well.
Thanks for the video. I wish that Salford made a rollover / reversible plow so that less travelling across the headlands would be required. I dont know of any manufacturer here in the US that makes a rollover plow. A switch plow is also a good idea for a plow where the mainbeam rotates horizontally for the return pass across the field. Google 'time to start plowing' by conley Banman who uses a Fehr switch plow. You probably have seen the 20 bottom Gregoire Besson French plow being pulled by a Quad Track 500 in a video. If not Google, '2005 world plowing record Case and Gregoire Beeson'. Your Quad Track should be able to pull a 16 or 18 bottom plow, thats if there is such a plow.
The rollover would be much more efficient, I really want to try one out sometime just to see how they work and such. I think your right about the fact that there isn’t a manufacturer in the US that produces rollovers. I’ve seen some videos on that 20 bottom plow! It’s a hugeee piece of equipment.
@@FehrsFarmingOrganic Thanks for your reply. Since there is a fair amount of plowing still being done, I wish that machinery manufacturers such as JD. Case/IH, Salford, Wilrich etc, would make large rollover or switch plows to match the HP of tractors. In my estimation, plowing turns all the 'good stuff', nutrients, minerals etc up to the surface after it has been leeched into the ground with rainfall, while chisel plowing has a minimal effect in that regards. Disking helps a bit but not as good as plowing. Just think of a Gregoire Beeson 20 bottom plow with the ability to raise some bottoms if needed, depending on the toughness of the soil conditions trailed behind that 'horse' of yours.
All right Thomas!!! Glad you got a Milwaukee impact to help you keep things in shape!
Have you ever done a side by side comparison of the moldboard plow vs a chisel plow in same field to see differences?
