    As much as I love MCR, the used, AFI, whenever I play on a similar rig, I feel constricted to playing only like them. While that's great for some, I always encourage little deviations to help you find your own voice. For starters, buy a Prs se instead of a les paul. Completely different experience and sounds phenomenal without sounding like every classic other rock rig.

    • @lunarscorpio3987

      Paul Weyer I feel constricted playing MCR songs in general. It’s good music, and I would play them for fun, but to all players out there: Never play songs from just one genre or just one band. You’ll never reach your full potential if that is your goal. I learnt more playing (well, attempting to) Zeppelin, Hendrix, Polyphia, RHCP, and some prog rock/math rock bands than from MCR. Though yeah, I learned about power chords there, but that’s pretty much it. I never even realized the power of vibrato there. Their tone is good and all, but it wasn’t at all experimental. They were unoriginal and original at the same time and will always be my favorite band.

    If you want a challenge, do Starflyer 59. On their second album, Gold, they recorded each guitar part 3 times, once with a bass tone, once with a mid tone, once with a treble tone, doubled each track, and stacked all six guitar tracks together on both guitar parts. I challenge you to recreate that sound live. The guitarist used a Gibson Les Paul Studio into a EHX Big Muff, Boss DS-1, Boss Tremolo, Boss Flanger, and a Fender '59 Bassman. Good luck. Though on the 1st album and 1st EP, Silver and She's The Queen, he used a Fender Jaguar.

      To he honest it would probably need to be the likes of a hx stomp or hx effects into a a fairly gainy american voiced amp

    • @Malediction99
      @Malediction99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shaunduffy3912 That's probably the most efficient way, but I'd like to see him do it with actual pedals. Some of the new budget pedals like the Joyo Atmospheres. While HX Stomp is great for gigs, for writing music I need easy tweaking and you just can't beat an actual pedal. I find I don't tweak multi-fx units as much as I should, because you end up sub-menuing your ass off.

      Jim used les pauls back in the day but now has a signature telecaster with P90's but it's a bit expensive but they could go double p90 les paul, he uses axe effects so probably go with a blackstar ID or HT series and maybe a multi fx processor of sorts like TC Electronic Plethora, as you'll need reverb, delay, fuzz and octave probably
      for Tom he uses SG's and Orange amplifiers so it's just as straightforward as SG and Orange Combo

    Whenever the Sounds Like series comes back I’d honestly love to see one for The Hollies (Tony Hicks/Graham Nash), they do have a pretty unique sound and you can include songs from their different “eras” so to speak like Bus Stop, I Can’t Let Go and On A Carousel but Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) has to be played regardless. That riff is definitely iconic and one of my personal favourites to play (Still gonna suggest a Sound Like K-On because I really want to see you guys do music from an anime and that series has some killer guitar work)
