I'm so happy to see you barre your E and D chords. So many uke tutorials make me feel like I'm doing it wrong. But this way works for me and switching between chords is so much smoother with no muted strings. Thanks for this!
I was humming along with my Uke learning new chords and building up a nice set of songs. Suddenly, I ran into the E chord while trying to learn "Girl" by The Beatles and all heck broke loose. lol
This was really helpful - learning bar chords makes everything easier, and using one finger for E and D sounds much cleaner. In my case, using this shape for E made Hey Soul Sister a breeze.
Wow thanks for this video! This whole time I’ve been trying to use all my fingers and it just wasn’t happening. This is so much easier! And I never thought to bend my finger like that but it works perfectly! You rock.
Thanks for watching the episode! It's true, double jointed people have a far easier time doing this (and most likely don't need this tutorial), but for those who aren't double jointed, doing the stretching exercises regularly can really help develop this ability over time. Also, practicing proper finger placement helps - you really don't need much clearance to allow that A string to ring, so play around with the placement of your finger and find out the best position for you, so that all of the strings ring out. It takes patience and practice, but pretty much anyone can get this!
Exercising to get a bend in my ring anf middle fingers feels totally weird (like turning my eyelid inside out for the first time) . But I see it's a good idea (no wonder I've been having trouble!). So thank you.
My thumb is double-jointed and does not have the strength or support like it's twin. When I play those chords, I usually use the bone of my thumb as support but that puts my hand closer to the fret board and sometimes the notes don't always come out clearly. What do you suggest or recommend in this case?
Coming from a guitar background, & as an ukulele educator, I have several other ways to play these chords. They all can be seen as "right". I'm uncomfortable with your assertion that your way is the "right" way for all players. Might there be better terminology? I do appreciate seeing alternatives & am grateful for yours. Be well.
What I don't get it is why you barr the second fret. Is it so that you can get support from your thumb? Because it's just one string, seemed like a bit overkill.
Those joints are out of position for me (I had an accident in high school) so what I use for an E is 4402 (Fingers 4401) It's not exactly the same but it sells it as well as I need it to!
This barre E chord is so much difficult than the regular one. My fingers are smaller and that knuckle bend causes me to mute the last string cause my finger cant cover the other strings.
I'm scared to make my fingers get used to bending back like that. I've noticed most guitarists who do that find it hard to play the piano with curved fingers. I'm just worried it could affect me when i play the piano too.
Nonsense, I assume your are playing since an early age, you are supposed to be teaching absolute beginners the Emaj shape. It would take these people years to get their fingers to do acrobatic backflips. Why not just show them the Emaj barre chord? No bendy fingers needed, nice and easy for beginners.

This is the only time being double-jointed in that specific joint in the ring finger is actually a help in my life :D
It's impossible for me to play this chord haha
I wish my hands weren't so small.
I have the same problem. My ring finger is milimeters from being able to reach the 3 strings at once :/
Same, I just use my thumb. That's probably bad but, what can I say, it works if u have small fingers
My hands are pretty big which makes it harder to play but there are pros and cons to both
Use a soprano
sa m e
Great tip. I'm not up to the E chord yet, but this helped me get a clear D. Thanks.
love your style of teaching... and exercising the fingers to bend correctly!
i find your explanations and illustrations wonderful
The only chord i was too lazy to learn, cuz i thought it was too complicated, now you helped me a lot! Thanks
You are so amazing! I admire your talent.
Wow thanks for this video! This whole time I’ve been trying to use all my fingers and it just wasn’t happening. This is so much easier! And I never thought to bend my finger like that but it works perfectly! You rock.
Anyways C chord is my favorite one.
A7 too
thankyou so much , this very helpfull
I don't have a problem with bending my finger like that but I have really tiny fingers. My first join only covers the first two strings.
That was awesome. Thanks dude.
you can also use your thumb to barre the three strings, it's a lot more comfortable
hahahah cheater
Was this the final Uke Minutes video, or are there more?
Thank you! I thought I was just really crap at the uke but I just didn't know where to put my fingers.
Being double jointed has finally paid off yay. Thank you x
Thanks man! Super helpful!
Super helpful, thank you, but why are you using your index finger to bar the whole second fret instead of just the A string?
I think this only works for double jointed people.

Its been along time uke minutes!!!!
Thank you from Italy :)
Surprisingly, I just learned that I have flexible fingers🤣 Thank you much🥰
You saved me, thank you so much

I always play the D chord with my thumb holding from the top :))
Phúc Trương me too, and the E, index/pointer on the 2nd fret of A string, easy slide
Thank you very much!!!
Aloha my Ohana! Did you guys get the Mickey and Minnie Ukulele drawing I did in the mail?? I hope you did, and hope you enjoyed it!
Mahalo!

I generally use the "double up" technique described at the link below. But I'll give this exercise a try.

I love you SOOO much!!!
Mahalo for this lesson!

What song you play at the start and the finish of the video
On Broadway
My ring finger is too short!!! Great video, though :)
Is it wrong playing without barre?
This barre E chord is so much difficult than the regular one. My fingers are smaller and that knuckle bend causes me to mute the last string cause my finger cant cover the other strings.
I can't bend back y fingers even if I press with other finger, why???????

Thank you . genius :) !
My 4th finger isn't big enough to hold down 3 strings!!! Is it just me or does everyone new find that?
PHILIPPA h me too. u r not alone.
use your thumb instead of your middle finger to hold down the three strings, lol sorry that this comment is a year old
Nice, but my fingers are so short that I am unable to hold 3 strings with just one knuckle-bone :D. Now, give me another advice please :D.
I simply use my fingertips to make these chords, it’s much easier. Not need to do a bar chord.
how about Gminor
just do a magic 3 string bar. Got it.
I almost broke my finger doing the second exercise
i'cant.... /=
only pointed finger for me
Aw, snap! The only finger on my hands that doesn't bend backwards the slightest unless I break it.
Oh, well.. I will continue to use my thumb instead.
All I want to do is play enter sandman by Metallica for a party trick this is so hard
the thumbnail...you missed
TEQUILA !!
Is it me or nobody noticed that he plays the chords from "Tequila" from The Champs ? Surprising !!
bruh my fingers aren’t long enough
Ha who else uses their thumb for the D chord 😂
Ouch😎
Those two fingers will never bend backwards because of osteoarthritis. Now what?
nvfm
im not.
im not doing this cord ever.
I'm good.
Lol im playing open E
No way
w h o t
It's not my way !
pilipino ka ba?
yes po

Just mute the C string :)
