Got a ukelele Christmas of 2017. Was very pumped to learn to play, but quickly lost hope of that. I could barely play one song, and only knew about 3 chords. I gave up playing my ukelele and didn’t pick it back up until today. I was inspired by a stranger who was fingerpicking on her ukelele to try to play again. I want to say thank you for being a good teacher and making this video. It was very helpful and within 5 minutes I could fully play the fingerpicking you taught! Much love . xx

About a year ago i walked into a guitar store and about 30 minutes later i walked out with a ukulele in my hand. I didn't know how to play, nor did i have any experience with any string instruments. And so i sat down and gave it a try.
It's impossible to master any instrument within a couple of days, all musicians know that it takes years HECK even your entire life to master.
Losing hope means giving up, that's never a good thing. Practice makes perfect and after a while you'll start to notice that things will get easier.
Anyhow i'll stop rambling here are some tips that helped me.
      - Try learning the *C Am F G* loop. If you're able switch between these 4 chords smoothly. Almost all the popular radio songs will be a piece a cake.
      - TH-cam/internet are your friends. Don't know that chord? Google it.
      - Start a tab collection of songs you love/want to play on ultimate guitar ( www.ultimate-guitar.com/ ). It has lots of handy tools and it's free.
      - Make sure you absolutely suck at playing this instrument. If you keep practicing and accept that fact, you can only improve on your skills. And trust me, nailing something after hours upon hours of trial and error is one of the best feelings in the world.
      - The E chord is a bitch (i cheat by playing E7 instead. So i don't have to break my fingers mid song ).
      - Don't forget to have fun, playing music is not supposed to be a chore.
      - Wanna sing and play ukulele at the same time? Start practicing this as early as possible. Right now, do it.
That's about it. "Hope"fully these tips could be of some assistance to you, or not. Have fun playing and good luck.
Smell ya later, homies 4 life.

It definitely helps me, I'm not quite ready to introduce fingerpicking to the littles just yet, LOL. I have three so far on soprano ukulele, and having the usual issue with getting them to practice. However, one of the three is Focused like a laser and IS practicing a LOT. His little sister is one of the three and she isn't making quite the same commitment. But they are all making progress, and having fun in the process. Dealing with two nine y.o.s, and a seven y.o. Thanks for your support, I will tell them that you asked about them.

I got a concert ukulele for Christmas and have practiced strumming cords. I am very slow at changing cords and beginning to feel like I'm never going to "get it". I can't believe how much better my, not great playing, sounds with this picking technique. I want to practice again. l feel like I actually may learn how to play a song one day. You teach at a great pace and I can pause the video to practice without problems. This was most inspiring.

I've been fingerpicking songs for years using just my thumb on my guitar, and ukulele. Then I just came across your video after several months of watching other videos of people picking the way you do, and I've been wishing I could do it. The exercise is easy, but I had to sit back to take a look on how is this going to help me with just any song. Okay, I think I get it. I keep my left hand notes the same, but with the right hand use the correct finger needed for that particular note. Which means middle C and D would be 3rd string thumb. While E to Ab would be the index finger, and A to high G would be the middle finger, or medio. I hope this is right. Thank you for opening a huge doorway for me. P.S. You have an awesome, and relaxing voice.

I have been learning, or trying to learn to play fingerpicking/fingerstyle for about 6 months or so now. I believe I have some bad habits that I can't seem to break, do you have a video/ or could you make a video on common mistakes for that style of playing on either ukulele or guitar as I am learning both. One of my biggest mistakes I know I do, but can't seem to fix is playing with only one finger. I seem to be able to play faster that way, but it does not give the beautiful sound that using all the needed fingers does, and I can't seem to break that habit for longer that a pattern or two... Thank you for any advice you can provide...

I would give the world to learn how to play my ukulele like I sit down and play the piano - or similar to how people would play a classical guitar. Soooo many youtube channels on here that are great for chording and singing along, but I'd sure love to learn a finger picking style to simply sit down and enjoy just playing pretty songs on my ukulele. Do you offer that? (I'm looking for actual videos that teach how to play popular songs with finger picking...)

I am learning to play a Guitarlele but I can still learn ukulele tutorials because the of ADGCEA Tuning! Will you ever consider doing Guitarlele tutorials? Anyways Uke on!
