Couldn't agree more about getting over the front end on these longer rigs. I'm running a large Spectral 29. At 5" 9', it's a big bike. My experience so far is that the bike turns in very quickly and positively, but perhaps because of my weight placement I can always feel the rear slide a little during turn in. This wouldn't surprise me because after years of motor cycle stuff it makes sense too me to be aggressive at the bars.

To me it seems that both of you look so much more comfortable on the size small. The slow-mo shots make it really apparent that you forcefully have to wrestle the size large into submission in every single corner.
Had a G1 (Size Medium) .. it was crazy on steep and straight tracks but cornering it was soooo much work!
I really like my bikes to be a little bit more agile

Interesting comparison. I got an XL G1 and currently 457 chainstay. It feels like a big bike but nothing too crazy. I am 190 cm tall with short legs. Front traction is crazy good and the bike loves tipping into the corners. Waiting for a taller fork to try out.
Just curious did you try making your cockpit smaller on the size large? Shorter stem, narrower bars, shorter cranks, more stem spacers, horizontal brake angle...might make the bike more maneuverable while retaining stability from the wheelbase.
Yes. I go over this in the full review which will be on my Patreon in a couple days. I didn’t like the shorter stem I tried.
Fair to characterize stems as being for modifying steering instead of adjusting fit? I really notice the difference in how different stem length put traction into the front tire in even 5mm increments - much preferring 45mm and 50mm depending on bike/hta
@@TheMarshalOlson yeah I agree. If I had to choose between 40 and 50 I would lean toward 50 but 44/45mm seem to be the sweet spot for me on multiple different bikes. I struggle to get that front end bite/response on turn in with a 40mm stem
About to bolt on a 15mm so don't want to hear this😂
All of this is making me so excited for my XXL G1. It’s not going to fit on any trail, but it will fit me (6’7”)!
I drank the longer is better Kool aid a couple years ago w a 490 reach (I'm 6' even). To me it felt like the front and rear suspensions were acting independently. I feel the bike acts as a unit w a 480 reach.
Hey Brian, excellent reviews. Also, your concussion videos helped me. Thank you. I am 6' and 1/2 inches tall. 34 length pant size and 36" sleeve. I am looking into the new Saturn 16 MGU. They recommend a size large with 515mm reach. I am also looking at a large Norco Range C1. The large Range seems comparable to the medium Saturn. Do you think the medium Saturn MGU with the 495 reach would be best for me? I will be using this bike for trails and bike park.

Hey thank you! I’d say for the Saturn the medium might make more sense especially for an e bike. I feel like the added weight brings a lot of stability to the bike and it would be harder to muscle around the larger bike at e bike weights. Bike looks rad though! hey Brian, on the topic of you liking that o-chain feel, I've been riding my Geometron with an idler pulley for the past months and it completley eliminates pedal kickback. The rear feels a lot smoother when going fast and it's easier to carry speed over rough terrain. Let me know if you'd be interested in the details of how I made it work :)

Interested to know more about the idler pulley on a G1. How did you do that?
@@briancahal hey seems like my comment was removed because of the links. Basically I made an aluminum plate that bolts to the ISCG tabs on the main frame. It carries a 14T pulley wheel which is located so the pedal kickback is completley gone in the smallest cogs on the cassette and that it mostly doesn't affect the climbing performance. You can hopefully see a comparison between the standard G1 and on with an idler if you look on my channel. There's a picture of the plate at the end, however I've switched to a hope pulley wheel and added a lower chainguide aswell
I got a Large being 6'1", I'm maxed out on spacers and riser, I would struggle on an M to get my stack. I'm also running +1.5 degree headset and the 12 seatstay mutators, still plenty planted, but more playful

listening to you guys I am happy i swapped the L frame with the M frame. I don't feel like the bike is picking a line for me anymore. Did not happen often and didn't feel to bad but still glad this feeling of not beeing totally in control does not come anymore. It also has become easier to steer through tight corners. Just spend a week in Finale and it felt super nice through the rough stuff too. I was always gaining on other riders in steep and rough sections, it is impressive how composed the bike is. But i broke a ext spring and the ext
shock has been quiet loud and should be serviced since it isn't fully recovering its stroke anymore. That was quiet a suprise since it has not had the 120 hours until service. Got a freshly serviced ttx and will see how they compare. I run the M frame as mullet with 459mm chainstays and 21 mm seat stay mutators to recover geometry with a 170 mm fork. I run the bike with 162 mm rear travel. Great to hear you guys nerd out in bikes.
Thanks for the input on your set up. Sounds like the medium rips and I like the idea of a mullet. I’d be interested to hear your feedback on the shock comparison too.

few notes before comparing them, I have the nicolai tune in the ext and it should be serviced since it does not recover its full stroke anymore. Only has around half the hours of its full service intervall. I use a 425lbs/in spring. I have used spherical bearings in the ext, and bushings with the ttx. I run the HSC completely open since it becomes harsh when I close it just one click. I run the rebound 5-6 clicks open and when I open it more the rear end becomes nervous. The LSC I run 4-5 clicks open. In general I am very happy with the grip and it never feels like bottoming out harshly. The TTX I run with HSC on 2, 1 felt rather soft in compressions and 2 does not feel harsh. The rebound I run at 4 clicks open. 6 clicks open still feels rideable but for now I felt 4 was more composed overall. LSC I have in the middle, don't know exactly but after some bracketing I ended up somewhere in the middle which felt very balanced overall. The Springdex I run a little softer (400lbs/in) than in the ext, since the shock feels overall more supportive. Gripwise both feel very similiar and I feel like i can still finetune the ttx more but I need to get more used to it. What I really liked about the ttx is that it is a lot quieter, now the bike is super quiet and I prefer that. I added a lot of slapper tape to the chainstay ;). I hope to get more time untill service out of the ttx than the ext. So far the ttx made the race for me ;).
