    Not a mod I'd do. My main concern on my Y2K Sportster is to hide cables. I raised the tank 1 inch front and back with brackets to hide the main loom under it (then dropped back the tank to 1/2 inch rise) and I can hide the speedo spider web behind or in the front light. I have a tachometer too.

    Not for me all the way down there, but not my bike either, so each to their own. My only comment is that I personally think you don't need to grind all your welds back. You welding has improved a lot and as someone that spent many years in the fabrication game, I get that it is a confidence thing. But there comes a point in time whereby you need to stand by your welds, and limit grinding to the starts and finishes. Grinding does more harm than good some times. Not a criticism but constructive feedback. Back yourself!!! All the best mate.

    Nate here, I've tried real hard to like the side mount speedometer on sportster, I just can't. Lol. Curtis, on our channel, is building a 2007 Sportster. Not a cafe, but has put 8" risers on and wants to mount his speedo on the side. I'm trying to convince him to raise his speedo up in the factory location but on spacers.

    I love that top line with the handlebars. Maybe the speedo does not look as large as I originally thought. That assymetric location is quite special.

    Oh all the relocations Ive seen this is bt far the most usable! Most of the other brackets have the gauge damn near under the tank so this is a much much better spot. Turned out excellent. You should sell these.

      Thank you so much for such kind words, im glad you like it, as you said, we should do our modification for ourselves, not for everybody else.. and this works for me..!

    Came out great, Del. You have really stayed with your vision and this fabrication proves it. This series has been extra special!
    Sorry I’ve had some catching up to do… been out of pocket negotiating a personality transplant for the MIL. The first one fell through (a human donor), the second one was faulty (semi-human politician donor) and we settled on the third (from a fresh head of cabbage). I will be assisting our grocer with the surgery, so have been sharpening my tools a bit. Hope you both are doing great!

    Frustrating when one tiny part like that ferrule is unobtainium like so many things these days. Beautiful design and execution on the speedo relocation Del. I had a good laugh when you said it looked like a lollypop in the original location. But you were spot on. 😁 Big thank you Del and Penny for your continued amazing work on this series. God bless and be well. ❤👍👍

      Thank you so much Rick, we're really glad you like it, it's a common relocation spot and still perfectly visible when riding! Have a great week there and thank you, as ever, for your kind support, D&Px

    You should have deliberately dropped your new brass bushing. It would have landed exactly where the first one went. Then you’d have two!!!
    😅😅😅😅
    I have a true story about that crazy methodology from the Army, but this forum isn’t the place.
    Triumph are way better at factory cable routing for aesthetics.
    I can the sporty forming, but looking forward to the chosen colour.

    Yes those wires always get in the way of a modification. I found that rubber gland grommets or sheaths for industrial breaker box installations come in all shapes and sizes. I'm sure that's what you hinted at . I have no idea if heat shrink tubing is available that big? Just throwing out ideas but I'm sure you'll get it squared away. I always get hung up on the wiring. Trying to keep it hidden or tidy. It's definitely not my forte.
    I'm looking forward to more Trumpet work. You know that era bike is absolutely my favourite.
    Take care buddy!
    ✌️❤️🤗

      Thanks buddy, i do have large bore heat shrink, and a few other options, some things are too boring for video so just need to be done offline for nest time.. Winter coming, and yeah, time for a winter prep for the big T300..! Keep safe buddy, chat soon aye.

    I'm not sure I'd like the speedo down out of the way like that. Seems it just complicates riding to me. But, it's not my bike, now is it? Excellent fabrication work, as always, my brother. All the best to Penny and yourself!

    • @MrAndyCarlos
      @MrAndyCarlos ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. I prefer up there. I like to watch the speedometer while riding, and down there is a bit hard to see it.

    I was worried when i saw the bare wires on the connector. It would have been nice to see you do that job but great video..
    My bike suffered for years of not wanting to start now n then.. The problem was me washing the bike at the weekend and getting water on the connectors behind the headlamp. Silly me :/
    Cheers

  • @JohnnieBravo1
    @JohnnieBravo1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting process to make that mod. On the one hand, it gets the speedo out of the main view, and appears to make you look further away to see your speed (not that Sporty riders need to know how fast they're going ;-) ). It looks cool as hell, but I'm struggling a smidge with the practicality of it. I'm not sure, and couldn't be, until riding it and see how it feels. Is the purpose to get it out of the way to make the bike lines look better, or is there some reason I'm not aware of for doing this? I love the lowered bars. Might consider doing that on my little '90 Sporty.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "not that Sporty riders need to know how fast they're going" cheeky! (but not wrong! lol)... this location cleans up the top line of the bars, as you can see, you can see it at a glance from the riding position and you have to look much lower to see the speedo mounted on the tank on a big twin... it's a very common mod mate.

    Hi Del. Nicely prepared video as usual. Question. The clutch adjustment stud didn't look all that tight after you dialed it in. What is supposed to keep it from vibrating out of adjustment?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there Joe, good to hear from you! If you look very closely the retaining nut with the spring on it, the hole in the middle isn't round, it has two flats in the centre hole that hold the two flats on the adjuster rod and then that retaining nut sits in a hex collar on the outer plate... so forming a bridge between the stationary plate and the adjuster rod and obviously that's held in place by the spring bearing against the derby cover... hope you're keeping well Sir, always good to hear from you!

    I think it’s fair to say that the best part of this effort is where the Speedo is NOT located. I think there might be some opinion on the relative appeal of where it resides now or how it was done but in my opinion that would go away.

      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's always some opinion on custom modifications buddy, and it's usually obvious which opinions come from the uninitiated and which come from those familiar with custom Sportsters, either way, it's there now and am really happy with it... thanks so much for your kind support as always.

      It's a really common relocation spot Luke, lots of aftermarket companies make the mounts for it.. and sitting on the bike it's surprisingly easy to glance down at... remember the Big Twin models that have the speedo in the middle of the tank, that's even lower from your eye line !
