Coral island still. Also I started playing Wylde Flowers yesterday and I’m enjoying it so far. I’m preparing myself for the emotional devastation coming my way.
SOS. Another Wonderful Life was my very first farming sim and when they announced the remake last year, I CRIED loooool, I'm a little surprised that they've renamed some of the characters(what's the point?) and changed a few things but I'm still loving it overall!😊
Thank you for an honest review of A wonderful life! Most of the reviews I have seen are people who loved the original. I think I will hold off on this game until the price drops.
Thank you for pointing out the price tag of SOS because it’s a redone GameCube game. Stardew is such a complete package at less then half the price. Plus there’s other great farming some for equally as cheap. Then again I’m balking at the atelier Marie remake price as well. I know it will be a great game but 50 hurts hard on that one
I grew up playing the old Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games so there is definitely nostalgia factor there, BUT you are correct that there is not a lot to do in this one. I remember playing it about 20 years ago and would always eventually stop because I would get bored. Yet, 20 years later I have a lot bigger physical and cognitive disabilities so I don't think I would mind the slower pace. I might get it on sale, but not full price.
This was a great review video! It made me really consider some games I had given little thought to and question games I was desperate to buy. It is go great to hear about things that will never be in a game trailer but will effect if I enjoy the game. This is why I rarely buy games I don't love! This and the indie developers pouring their heart and soul into the games they make. Frogsong needs to come to switch!! I am sold!
I started Story of Seasons with their previous game (Pioneers of Olive Town) and going from that to A Wonderful Life was definitely jarring. My biggest gripe with it is definitely the shorter seasons. Would definitely appreciate being able to adjust how time passes in game to allow me to do more at a more timely pace. Aside from that though I’ve been enjoying it so far but it’s definitely more bare bones than your typical farm sim. Many have problems with Pioneers of Olive Town but imo it’s definitely the more fun/fleshed out of the ones I’ve played so far. Also I believe you can set up a shop on days Van doesn’t come to town to sell your non-farm product but the game never tells you that. The game actually doesn’t tell you a lot of the controls, took me a while to find the map & that you could save from anywhere
As a big fan of Story of Seasons games, I honestly was so disappointed with AWL. If you want to try one with more of a focus on farming and gorgeous art, I highly recommend the Doraemon ones, especially when they’re on sale! No romance, but they have storylines, plus the second one has alpacas 🦙 Checking out some of your suggestions now ❤❤ thank you!
You spoke about a few games I havent heard of before which I feel is an achieveme t with the amount of time I've spent watching game videos this month! I was so tempted by SoS because it looks so pretty but glad I skipped it now as the game play does seem a bit limited. I'm in the middle of Wylde Flowers so I dont think I need a new farming sim right now! I randomly got back into the sims this week, so addictive.
this might just be me. I think the 50$ price of AWL is worth it. atleast im having a blast with the game. the first year is pretty much the tutorial. the introduction of the basics. in year 2 you have so much more, you get a kid, you learn about hybrid crops, new people move in, the digsite expands, you can get better tools to unlock larger fish variety, you start making money to buy more expensive facilities and animals. etc. year 1 is very limited and isnt a great judge of the game as a whole. as its quite literally judging a book by its cover. I understand it was first impressions. and the first year can feel long. but it really speeds up once you get to year 2 and the real game opens to you. so I hope you gave it some more time to shine.
I think the nostalgia with a wonderful life and the story of seasons/harvest moon franchise is that at the time they were really the only farming sim games. A wonderful life was a really big hit back in the day and IMO it is kind of like the OG farming sim that led to so many others being created. It definitely has a heavy focus on social interactions and if you get the chance to play it through you get to see everyone age and how their lives change through the years. That being said, a lot of time each day is spent gifting and talking to the villagers to get more cut scenes and learn more about everyone. I feel this is a bit different to more modern farming games where the bigger focus is on the farm itself if that makes sense?
hit the nail on the head, I miss the focus on social interaction and relationships that used to exist in original farming games but if someone is newer to the genre they might not quite get it. AWL was my favorite childhood game and I’ve spent over a decade upset I’d never be able to play it again, trying to download it on emulators etc, so any price point they could’ve put it at would’ve been worth it for me
@@sillyer2 I completely agree! A lot of the newer games have social aspects but it is not a main focus besides socializing with whoever you are choosing to marry. And this was also my favorite childhood game! I still have my game cube just to be able to play it prior to the remake lol!
This is my first time watching you. And omg I love the video! will def watch you more. But I have the same rainbow sloth. I got it at the detroit zoo with my fiancé! ❤❤❤
I bought the original SoS AWL years ago on GameCube. It was my entryway into this genre of gaming. I never was able to get into, though, because it felt slow and had some issues overall. I discovered Rune Factory due to this game, and fell in love with that series more. The game is nostalgic for me because it was my entryway game even though I didn’t vibe with it at the time. I decided to buy the remake and see if my feelings on it have changed with time and with the quality of life updates that they made in the game. I can def say compared to the original this version does feel more polished and I appreciate the changes that were made. I still felt like it was slow and struggled connecting with it in year one. I will also say I never played more than a few seasons in the original game either. I pushed through until I hit year 2 and that’s when I fell in love with this game. Seeing the characters age and the town change felt like something new and fresh while still feeling nostalgic. A lot of the gameplay is simple compared to modern games, but sometimes you need simplicity due to a lack of time. The price is a negative and I wish they added some more features overall. But I think if you are struggling to get into push through until you get to year two. You will know then if you like it or not.
SoS:AWL definitely has a nostalgia price tag- I threw money at a preorder as soon as I knew it was happening. I never got to play the original, so I was really excited to play the remake since this entry is a popular one. It's also kind of weird for a HM/SoS game so if you want to try out a more traditional game's remake, I highly recommend Friends of Mineral Town. It's easily the most popular and nostalgic entry in the franchise.
Thanks for these honest reviews! I played the original Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life so I'm not that interested in the SoS version, especially at full price. Frog Song looks so cute!
I'm going to pass on SoS A Wonderful Life. I have yet to fall in love with any SoS game. (Friends of Mineral Town, Pioneers of Olive Town, and the first Doraemon). I actually liked Doraemon best of these 3 with its gorgeous watercolor art. But I wasn't in love with it. it was OK. Maybe SoS isn't for me. I'm playing Roots of Pacha. OMG I love it so much. The graphics, village, atmosphere....the developers did a fantastic job and it's still in Early Access!
I so appreciate your view on the Story of Seasons Wonderful Life game. I have never played any of them and was really thinking about getting this one but am worried I would get bored
I personally think the rune factory series is their best series. But if u don't like the addition of fighting.....I do think sos wonderful life is their best one on switch. Or I loved the 2nd sos doramon game. And the doramon game imo is the best looking out of all of them.
Story of Seasons AWL is a nostalgia grab, and the price tag is for sure thanks to the new graphics as well. I feel like they'll add DLC as well. Not a great choice for newcomers to the series, I'd recommend one of the DS games (a fan fav is SoS Trio of Towns). I personally enjoyed Pioneers of Olive Town, but it might be frustrating to play if you don't like grinding. Every game is a new experience, so it really depends on what you enjoy about farming sims
Hoping you'll do a review of Picontier. It just came out on switch and the only reviews I've seen are of older versions on Steam. I can't decide if it's worth buying.
I am hoping to be able to play Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. I don’t mind the price tag bc I feel they will add so much more later on to the game and all
honestly us farming gamers are pretty spoiled with all the different features and goals that exist in farming games today. harvest moon has always had more of its focus on simple town life, which I absolutely love bc as someone whose played stardew valley quite a lot i often get overwhelmed and stressed with how much there is to do and constantly having a checklist. being able to just vibe in a farming game and not feeling like i’m missing out on achievements is something i’ve dearly missed
I have Smushi on my WL and haven't bought it yet because the graphics on the little videos threw me off a bit, and I only play on the switch/switch connected to a monitor. Is it still worth it guys? Would love some feedback
I did play on PC but from what I’ve seen the graphics look the same, you can check out the live I did playing the game if you’re interested! I streamed 3 hours of gameplay so I think it gives a good idea, I also have a stream of mail time as well in case you want to compare them! th-cam.com/users/liveXnzxCGG0c_g?feature=share
I only have a switch that I dock to a monitor also...I LOVED Smushi so much that I finished in a couple days (only because I couldn't put it down). I personally was fully immersed in it and was really sad when I hit the end. Graphics were great to me, no bugs, no glitches, just a really cute enjoyable game. I am very happy with my purchase😊
@@Tanrotuk aww thank you so much, in that case I will definitely get it!!! I am in the same situation, switch docked to monitor so thank you for your review
I have a huge favour to ask: living with severe arthritis, including in my fingers, I really need cozy games to play with ONLY a mouse. No keyboard input, just right/left click and wheel input. Could you maybe see if you have games that fit this criteria? Even better would be games that go on and on? Pretty please? Thank you :)
Ooo I’ll have to take a look at this! I’be been getting asked more and more about cozy games with great accessibility and now that I’m thinking of it so many games have such heavy use of keyboard or on controller with thumb sticks! I’ll see what I can find!
I'm really happy about your honest take on AWL. I feel like all I keep seeing is hype for it and yet based on some videos I've watched and descriptions I've read, I couldn't believe people were willing to pay so much for so little content. I was new to SOS as well until a couple months ago when I bought Olive Town, so I have zero nostalgia and was just getting it because people rave about the series, and yet I found that game to be extremely underwhelming. My favorite farm game I've played (and the first one I ever tried) is Coral Island and it's half the price of the SOS games and it already has way more content even in early access, so the price tag on SOS games is crazy to me. It seems like SOS is just taking advantage of that nostalgia and how well known its name is to overcharge people.
TH-camrs I follow who have played story of seasons in the past are actually quite disappointed with wonderful life. So it’s quite interesting that your first impression wasn’t great.
I wouldn’t say my first impression was great! Like I said in the video I’m definitely in between on it and I think I had more cons to pros but hoping that I’ll get into more!
