Dude you just helped me gain so much confidence in myself! New home owner here and you just taught me something I thought I could never do! Thank you so much!
@@StatUpBox What if the wall plug has 4 wired (Ground wire is the 4th) and the stove plug in chord has 3, can I cap the ground off if I'm changing the plug on the ground? Thanks!
Wow. Something as simple as taking a pic just changed my world! I didn't even think of that. I was so intimidated before and that simple suggestion just gave me way more confidence. Thank you!
Yeah but I wonder what they did before technology 🤔🤣I bet only people who knew what they were doing worked on this stuff. I have to replace my boyfriend's. But i wonder if it makes a difference when the current one is a 3 prong and the one I need to switch it to is a 4 prong.
Was able to get my new oven working due to your video. Thanks for the clear instructions making what from the outside looks like a complicated job pretty simple.
Thank you for your great easy to follow video. Our oven cutoff while we were cooking dinner. The outlet was very hot. This is something my wife and I would never have try to do, but we found your video, quick trip to home Depot and we were eating in an hour and a half. Please do more your instructions are easy to follow. Thank you
I appreciate this video it made it very understanding. Question though. I have a red, white, and black wire, no ground wire. Do I just connect the other cords?
Thank You Very Much For The Video. I'm a little confused at the 125v, 15 amp breaker, and the stranded wire. I am installing a 240/50 amp breaker for my stove.
Either you have a gas stove, or you did not show turning off the correct breaker! A single pole 15 amp breaker is 120 volts. Also, (for those watching this video) the voltage tester used will not work on this receptacle with the cover on. Remove the cover, then test it.
Thank you for video. I had a question. Upon tightening the screw onto the wire I find some get jammed up on the side of the clamp area. My question is the wire supposed to be dead center on screw after tightening?
Hey bro , i have a 3 prong outlet and just bought a 4 prong electric range. I followed your video but my 3 prong only has 3 wires can i still put on the 4 prong, or is there an aftermarket quick fix to add the green ground?
How do you know if your receptacle is bad or your appliance itself is going out? I have a small tester it’s two little wires With a little light. You plug it in in the light lights up or doesn’t light up or blinks. Can I plug that into the 220 stove outlet or will I get a shark? I’m trying to find out if the wiring it’s OK or if there’s a short
It's not hard, but This stuff Will kill you, sooner or later, if you don't know what you're doing. SAFETY ISSUE: 1:20 "The first thing that we wanna do is to turn off the power." ...then turns off the Wrong breaker. You have to turn off the right breaker. If the breakers are labeled, fine; if not, you can still find the breakers. A stove/range breaker will have 2 switches, not one like demonstrated here, and likely "40" on each switch (for an 80-amp range). The switch below the one that was flipped is indeed a dual switch, with two "40" amp breakers, and the labels on the left side confirm which breakers control the "RANGE". Next, 1:33-"...check to make sure there's no electricity" with the voltage detector. Most voltage meters or detectors act the same way if the battery is dead as they do if there's no voltage. Most of us have dead batteries in our voltage meters or detectors because we use them so rarely. If you flip the wrong breaker, then use a voltage detector with dead batteries, at 1:58, you're 1 inch from 240V 80A (instant death). So, FIRST, pay attention to which breaker you're turning off, then CHECK YOUR VOLTAGE SENSOR ON A LIVE OUTLET before trusting your life with it--IF IT DOESN'T SHOW VOLTAGE PRESENT on a known live outlet, REPLACE THE BATTERIES OR REPLACE THE METER BEFORE PROCEEDING. Rule 1: Safety First!
Exactly what I'm wondering as well... I just bought a new stove and it will not slide all the way back like my old one because of the position of the outlet.
Good video. I watched mostly to see how this sort of receptacle was attached to the wall. My complaint about your video is you didn't fix the issue that likely caused the old problem in the first place - poorly attached to the wall, screws going into drywall and not either anchors or stud. When I saw you putting those short screws into the drywall, I shook my head a little. I praise you for teaching good electrical fundamentals. I work as an electrician, and if people follow your safety instructions they will in no danger. Your red wire connection was a little sketch, and I noticed the video was edited there... This is the reality of working with existing old work, sometimes you have to make it work if you don't have the option of replacing the wire. That said, it was a teaching moment you missed. Frustrating as it can be, it is good for people to see that this isn't always as easy as an edited video can make it look. I have to run a new wire from the panel, and to save the client money I will be reusing the old on-wall receptacle they have, unless it is damaged. This video did answer my question - this does not attach to a junction box, so you need something solid to screw into and need to plan where your wire comes through accordingly, or use drywall anchors if a stud is not an option. Thank you for showing me that. Proper fastening of the outlet to the wall is a major part of safety in the long run, so please keep this in mind for future videos!
It’s the same thing that comes to my mind seeing this video: poor and unsecured fastening of the box. Working with lots of old homes and mobile homes, I’ve seen lots of similar mistake.
What if after installing and you plug the stove in the plug dosent sit perfectly flush with the outlet cover. There is a small gap there. Should it plug in all the way?
could one wire the red wire to the brass screw on the left where the black wire is, and wire the black wire to the brass screw on the right where the red wire is?
So if your voltage tester is malfunctioning the way you find out is the 6 feet of dirt sitting above you the next week at your funeral? Why not have people make sure the tester is working first? Also, why do you show a single pole breaker instead of a two pole like the actual oven will use? This video is kinda dangerous don't you think?
You shouldn't. If you already had 4 wires coming in, there is no good reason not to use the separate ground. And if your house was built after 1996, it's illegal to put the three prong outlet in.
It's 240 volts in houses. 2 120 volt lines shifted 180 degrees out of phase provide the 240 volts. In larger buildings, such as apartments, it's 208 volts because they bring all 3 phases in and they are all shifted by 120 degrees. But only 2 of the 3 phases are used, making it 208 volts.
When tightening the white wire, that plate went crooked. As long as wire is tight does it matter? Because i can't seem to get the plate out to straighten it.
This was the best diy video I've seen in a long time. Clear instructions, great camera angles, and a little humor.
Glad you liked it!😊💪👍❤
Thank you. I didn't have a clue how to install the clamp until your video. 👍🏼👍🏼

Just know- You did make a difference today in someone’s life, I was able to change the plug and be able to use the stove, thank you 🙏🏼
Glad I could help!💪😎👍

Thanks a lot man. I followed your video to the "T". Oven/Stove is back up running like a champ.

Wonderful!
Thank you so much because the owner of the house I'm renting as well as the maintenance guy is of no help. So I just plan on doing this myself.

“The last thing you want to do is DIE before cooking that last meal.” LMAO.
Great job sir🥂 Thank you!

Well that seems a lot easier than I thought. Now I don't feel the need to call my electrician over thank you!
That ending comment was a gem! 😂
Perfect. You've really made it so us complete noobs can get it.
What parts are plastic? It was hard to tell and I want to make sure I am correct. Amazing video!!!!

Is there a difference on the inside to switch the box from a 3 prong to a 4 prong??
Too funny, but great video.
Can the outlet be put sideways on the wall so stove sits back farther?
Exactly what I'm wondering as well... I just bought a new stove and it will not slide all the way back like my old one because of the position of the outlet.
Can I use this same outlet for a stove top electric range?

If the outlet has gone bad? Does that cause heating to stop?

That neutral was inserted a bit long and close to the red hot terminal for my liking but other than that good job explaining.
What about the single 15 amp breaker in the video...not good!!
Its actually a double 40 or 50 amp breaker....
Can I move the outlet by extending the wire to a different part of my kitchen?
You are able to extend it if you make sure you hide your extension connections inside of a junction box
Can u put a 3 prong plug were there was a 4 prong
Yes.

My receptacle didn't have a spot for the ground. Is this normal?
I should have bought this receptacle. I bought a box and it's been a doozy trying to fit in the aluminum wires.
I didn’t have a white wire?? Only a ground, red n black
ty now i can NOT call the electrician who will charge me 200 bucks plus Im sure of it... =)
An electrician wanted to charge my grandma $100 for doing that exact same thing, she told me and i said "oh hell no" i did it my self.
I don't understand how the wires go back in the outlet
