Since bots cannot be programmed to play like the given elo, they instead get programmed to make different levels of mistakes at varying frequencies depending on the elo. Meaning even a 500 bot can defend like a GM, but then he will blunder his queen for nothing. Meanwhile a 1700 will play mostly accurately, and then proceed to do a really dumb move that almost all chess players who know what they are doing can exploit and convert eventually.
My rating number is like 300 but some single game rating estimates that the game review gives are over 1000. Obviously some other games are far worse. I don't know any theory I just throw the pieces around intuitively
@@MF175mp that's highly inaccurate as well, I'd join some sort of chess community and try against higher rated players (with atleaat 50+ rated games) if you can consistently beat them you'd be about that rating
Levy versus bots has become my favorite series of your channel. With that said this is probably my favorite video you've ever made except for one other video about Mikhail Tal. It was very entertaining to watch you at the same time you were actually very informative in your thoughts and moves and I could feel your excitement as I was rooting for you to win. Kudos 👏🏼
The second game was really nice, it showed how the kings Indian defence is played. Hikaru has a game where he play in a similar way, it’s a shame he doesn’t play the opening as usually as before
It's been some time ago, but didn't Hikaru and Gotham both beat bots by starting with the Hippo, then playing waiting moves until the bot couldn't stand it anymore and blew it?
i'll predict vids for both, dummies: both of the guys will do bot videos when they come out. gotham will do GTE sometimes and cover championships. If you think calling the fact that levy will do bot vids when he has for years is something special then I can't wait until you find out what "patterns" are!
In the first game I think g6 was played to stop Kh5 because Kh5 was so strong, and it was never gonna take it was just going to counter fxg6 with fxg6 to cover up the king again. So the king didn't actually get exposed and your knight was unable to advance.
Gotham: Inspired after watching Hikaru, Also Gotham: beats the impossible bot. Me: Inspired after watching gotham Also Me: blunders queen on second move and goes on to lose a 100 rating points
I hope you’re readying yourself for the next tournament it’s what the viewers want to see you Competing again for Norms hope you’re up for it soon enough
It's interesting that I never would've made the inaccuracy that cost him the win as Black, which means I probably would have won. Then again, I never would've reached the endgame with such an advantageous position against this bot. It's funny how someone who is significantly better than me at chess can sometimes do a move that baffles me. The endgame is my strength because it's easier to plan ahead with less pieces, but my lack of knowledge makes the early game really hard when faced against an advanced player. I have an ELO of 1400+ and my highest rated game is 1750.
Key is to have sufficient control of the game to avoid losing and to have time and to have some way to break through the opponent's position. If they won't give you material, and they don't, you have to beat them Strategically, and these two games show the method, if not the only way. Humans know this. Doing it isn't easy, as the second game showed. But, when two humans play, they don't let this Strategy dominate the game. That's where the engine is weaker than humans.
Yeah the blocked position would only lead to a draw so the bot resigned by giving up all its pieces. Also because Levy got the advantage which might eventually lead to winning.
hey levy i had a game recently. may seem a bit disappointing how much i missed, but your book is brilliant and thats the type of move i made in this game
I've drawn with the Professor Wumpus bot before. No, I'm not lying. I actually drew with this bot and *NOT* with its 200 rated counterpart. It's this 3100 rated bot that I've drew.
I've been playing through every bot trying to 3 star them. I'm currently on Nora (2200) it took me over 80 games to beat the (2000) rated bot once. After around 100 loswes to nora, last night I was up +2 on her. and then proceeded to lose the endgame. Game review said I had a 3.5 advantage at one point. I could have gotten my 3 stars. 😢
I've returned to chess after a 40 year break and regard myself as a beginner. I've noticed that I'm winning online games when the other player is clearly stronger & winning. Either they resign or abandon.. I have a theory for this
"A battle of intellectual capability", keyword "intellectual"! I would've agreed with this statement before the advent of chess programs. Yeah the blocked position would only lead to a draw so the bot resigned by giving up all its pieces. Also because Levy got the advantage which might eventually lead to winning.
The max elo a bot can have is 3200 as the engine itself has max 3200 elo

I've played a couple of rounds against the bot. The biggest advantage I got was +5, but sadly couldn't convert the game...
1:32 silent kiss 💀
Why did the bot just give away it's pieces in the first game? It played bad moves on purpose.
The bot knew it's gonna lose and had no way to escape mating attacks, so it wanted to lengthen the game by giving up its pieces.
When bots see they're about to get mated, they start giving up pieces because it delays mate, which they consider to be better than losing outright
for stalemate chance
