  • Nissan is bringing more rock creek to its SUV line up with the 2025 Rogue Rock Creek edition. The semi rugged off road SUV has Nissan taking on Toyota and Subaru for the light use off pavement SUV. Today we take a first look and ask the question WHY?

The three "vents" or nostrils are a styling nod to the first gen Pathfinders, which had three little vents on the front of its hood. The current gen Pathfinder also has this.
When I saw this, it made me really excited. My first car was a 1995 Pathfinder, owned it for 25 years, literally no issues. Needed more of a family car so my next car was a 2008 Pathfinder, and currently have a 2011 X-Terra. I was planning on getting a new Rogue for the gas mileage even though I'll be bummed I'm losing the off-road capability and ruggedness of my X-Terra. This is going to be a great middle ground for me!

I want this big time, literally every crossover has a trim like this, even the Toyota Sienna has a Woodlands edition. They aren't offroad vehicles nor marketed as such, but as fun camping vehicles that look neat and offer a little more suspension clearance, more capable tires, and more heavy duty roof racks. Similar to the '25 Chevy Equinox Activ, Forester Wilderness, Rav4 TRD, etc.

I showed my wife this new rogue since she has a 21 SV rouge and she said it looks like a subaru. Her next vehicle will be the armada she said or Xterra if they ever bring it out!

As a Subaru owner I accept this as a compliment…Thank you.

On a real note though, I’ve gotten a 2024 Rogue SV AWD as a work vehicle since February. Got it brand spank’n new straight from the factory. And I’m pleasantly surprised. I’ve been only Subaru since 2018, and my Rogue has certainly raised my eyebrows. I’ve already got 15k miles on it. I’ve driven in lots of different conditions (not snow), and I like the way it looks and performs. This could win folks over… just saying.

It looks neat. That's why. Instead of too much chrome it gives it a bit more appeal to those of us that hate the fancy car look. Also most people that 'build' up their trucks and SUVs off-road about as much as this thing will.

I kind of dig it. Might be a fun little softroader or daily... :D

I'm sitting here waiting patiently for a new Xterra. I get an email from Nissan and I'm so excited, then I open it and see this. Dude, I lost my shit. Emailed them back and blasted them.

This car needs 2.0T engine & it will take over the whole market

Why? Why not? Definitely could appeal to the weekend warrior demographic who has to go to work on Monday, but likes to head out for mini adventures on Friday. That's a LOT of people. Still waiting on a new Xterra though.

Looks like the design of some "city-boy" that just got back from his first trip to the Badlands of South Dakota.

It's all about appearances for most people. Yeah, Toyota makes the 4Runner but as much press as it gets it didn't sell 100,000 units in a year until 2016 and has never passed 145,000 sales so for all the hype it's no Rav4, or Rogue, as far as sales go. So if you're Nissan what makes more sense? Build a vehicle that given the competition would probably not sell more than 60K units a year and cannibalize sales from your most popular models for a net zero gain? Or, try to make the most of a vehicle that already sells well over 250,000 units a year most years with a peak of 412,000 sold in 2018 and is on pace to sell more than 280,000 this year? Looks sell. Capability is the talk of dudes on the internet who rarely need it and almost never buy it new anyway. When I was using my Subaru Impreza (not Crosstrek) for road trips and outdoor adventures my 6 inches of ground clearance, CVT and street tires made it every place my friends in their Jeeps and 4Runners ACTUALLY went. Not saying they didn't have more capability but if you have no need for it or don't use it then it's irrelevant. And far more people than not have no need for it. The three non functional vents on the front are likely throwback nods to the three non functional vents on the old Hardbody pickups like they are on the new Hardbody edition Frontier. I don't think Nissan is trying to compete with anyone with this. It's just a cheap way of offering another flavor they hope someone will want to try.

I think it looks nice, but I love the capability of the new RAv4. I am sure this will be just as good

Looks good. Maybe trying to compete with the Bronco Sport with the off road trim.

Dunno much bout the car, just got the mazda cx-50 and only dislike the terrible approach angle. This Nissan at first look, got nice looks except for that front end....it's terrible! Gloss black for an off-roader!? Brahhh! The front end looks like it has a race car front chin lmao not an roader chin lmao! 😅

It's Nissan trying to keep up with the RAV4 Off-Road and the Mazda CX-50 Meridian. Probably no more off-road capable than the other trims.

Rugged and a turbo 3 cylinder doesn't work for me. I looked at the new redesigned Ford Escape that has a 3 cylinder and an optional 4 cylinder ecoboost. It's all about hitting a price point for the consumers while making profits. I'm sure both the Nissan Rogue and the Ford Escape are nice vehicles but Ford markets the 3 banger Escape a fun fuel efficient family vehicle. Off roading isn't their sales pitch while Nissan Markets their 3 banger Rogue as an off roading vehicle. I don't see customers lining up to buy them for that purpose.
From the last report I read from NSANY. It was Reported Nissan stock has been delisted from the USA exchanges. Not a good thing.

Nissan posing as a Subaru. How quaint. The Rogue is not an SUV btw - it's a CUV. These aren't trucks.
