    This is who my son-in-law, Benjamin LeJeune, works for! I just hope he knows how much we love and appreciate all that he does for his family!
    Help me show him and all of our farmers some love and appreciation! All of our farmers and ranchers deserve it!!
    Thank You, Ben!! You are by far my favorite SIL and I couldn't ask for better!! ❤ Like the saying goes: If you ate today, Thank a Farmer..... If you ate in Peace, Thank a Soldier! I am Blessed with BOTH!!

    Great video as always. To answer the speed question, I have heard 2 reasons, (both probably wrong), 1). To stop the combine from sinking into the soft ground, and 2). The ease (or difficulty) with which it can harvest the rice. - - I will probably be "bombarded" with loads of "Don't be Nuts" remarks. . . But that's what the "Comments" section's for - isn't it.?

    • @AerialAg
      @AerialAg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks and you may be right. I'll probably be out filming again this weekend. If I remember, I'll ask one of the farmers.

    • @Beyonder8335
      @Beyonder8335 ปีที่แล้ว

      You kinda got it with the second one. I don’t know the exact reason cause I don’t farm rice, but due to how wet it is, you can’t put near as much crop through it. This is because the wetter material tends to stick to things inside the combine and clump together rather than flowing through how it’s supposed to.

    Questions: how much more expensive are the rice specialised harvesters for this JD model?
    Do the white egrets actually eat the rice or are they feeding on critters disturbed by the harvester?

    How many acres of rice does Louisiana plant? And how many bushels do you get per acre on a average year? Just wondering, I combine corn and rye in Michigan on our family farm. Pretty neat seeing a different crop harvested! And I just subbed your channel, love it!

    • @AerialAg
      @AerialAg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the sub! Per the USDA: Breakdown by grain length for Louisiana are:
      long grain planted area is 430,000 acres and medium grain planted area is 50,000 acres. Harvested acreage for all rice is
      revised to 474,000 acres, up 50,000. Average for last year was listed as 6,800 pounds per acre. Rice is measured in barrels instead of bushels.

    • @boomerang379
      @boomerang379 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AerialAg rice is measured in bushels. 45 pounds to a bushel. Barrels is a south Louisiana thing and nobody else uses that system.

    • @boomerang379
      @boomerang379 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Average Yiled is around 165 bushels an acre. Hybrid varieties will produce more. But I’d you rely on county averages they’ll always be less

    @tribeofenoch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I recently just fell in love with farming. when it comes to transferring the grains from the harvester into the truck why don't both vehicles stop? why does it need to keep moving while loading into the empty truck?

    • @AerialAg
      @AerialAg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because unloading on the go means you keep harvesting. Farmers want to keep that harvester working as much as possible. Time is money.

      Start cutting at 21%. They’ll fly on some urea and flood it back up and harvest it again in October. Second crop usually only makes about a third of the first.

  • @jwolf4948
    @jwolf4948 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wish you did something more than just fly a drone around a harvester... with no commentary or explanation on the crop, this could just as easily be a video on corn/soybean/wheat harvesting. Make it a little more engaging by having a look at the 4 seasons around rice farming (even just a few pictures) and talk about it while flying the drone around in the video.
