    Also, best car I've ever owned. You forget to even inflate the tires, because there is no user maintenance. It is so comfortable and so quiet. Wanna race? I tied a new Mustang the other day. Our Prius feels like a truck compared to this car.
    Our Leaf is solar-charged by panels on the garage. No-fuel-motoring.

    Best car I have ever owned. A bit pricey to buy but offset by the price of "gas" and very little maintenance needed. The future for sure! Thanks Mike

    I just bought a used one. I drive very little, mostly commute by motorcycle. Thought I'd "dip my toe" in the all electric pool.
    Well, the car is incredible. I thought it would in some way be worse performing than other small cars. The opposite is true. Very brisk acceleration from a dead stop. the interior is much larger and more comfortable than similarly sized cars and the ride smoothness and noise level is Much better. It does my 30 mile round trip commute is half a "tank" and is easily recharged overnight. with the standard 115V charger.
    The AC even works great and doesn't hurt range as much as I thought it would. This car is great. The reviews overstate the difficulties of living with an electric car as long as you live within the known range and charge time limitations. I wish I had bought one sooner.

    Good video, thanks. Interesting to spot any differences between this and my 2013 Techna. Pleased to say that I thoroughly enjoy driving my Leaf, it is the most relaxing car I have ever driven. People are usually surprised that you can hear other people's conversations when stuck in traffic - it's that quiet!
    For those on a budget, there are now second hand Leafs on the market in the UK and nobody needs to worry about motor wear & tear - it'll probably outlive you!

    • @Joe90V
      @Joe90V 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +MikesCarInfo A bit of info for you regarding the design of the car; the car was designed from the ground up to be as quiet as possible because there isn't any engine noise to drown out an ICE car squeaks and rattles. Accordingly, the raised headlight configurations were designed to deflect the airflow over the wing mirrors, eliminating wind noise. The rear visor and tail light configurations create a swirling vortex of air behind the car which reduces drag as well as being self cleaning. Even the windscreen wiper motors were redesigned as normal ones were too noisy!
      In April my car had its second year service and the batteries were tested and returned a 100% reading, so it seems that 26,000 miles has had no effect on them, so I anticipate that Nissan's claim of 5 years without battery degradation will be correct. Time will tell, but it's a fascinating experience and one I'm enjoying immensely.

    Just a comment about your review of the charge ports. You missed noting the quick charge port to the left of the 110/220v port. This S might not have had it, but the cap was there for the 30 minute "fillup" at the QC stations when that option is bought.

    I am sure Nissan makes good Electric car, but the after sale service is more important.
    Here in Israel Renault decided it no longer replaces batteries
    that degrade by over 50% in just two years.
    And unfortunately most of the cars here seem to be having this problem
    and that's probably why they stopped!

    I looked at this car for hours, sadly, I would barely make it to work and back on a single charge. I would hate to think after 5 years later trying to do it with 70% working battery. I will wait until new generation of batteries come out in the future. Maybe 10 more years and we will have 3 to 500 mile charges. Then we are talking.

    • @marcvanleeuwen5986
      @marcvanleeuwen5986 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +shadowx089 If you feel your commute is at the limit of the 24kWh battery range, you might want to opt for a 2016 model with 30KWh, with which you would then probably have no worry. Also batteries are not likely to decrease in capacity as fast as you think; I believe they now come with a 8 year warranty which provides for free replacement if the capacity does fall below the 9/12 bar indication. Also it is possible to lease the batteries, in which case you have a similar guarantee for the duration of the lease.

    the "quick charger" name is confusing, in europe it's called Rapid Charge, which reflects its speed compared to "regular" speed - 8-10 hours, and "fast charge" - 4hours.

  • @leehargreaves7473
    @leehargreaves7473 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can't compare gas mileage with an EV because it depends on how you charge it. I have Solar panels so I get "free gas".
    I don't pay for oil/filter changes. I don't pay for Cambelt changes. Servicing is super cheap.
    It's as close to free motoring as it's possible to get I reckon.
    Note! I do have a regular gas car. It's a bit of a utility vehicle, with a Tow-Bar. If we need to do a big long drive we'll still take that.
    However, my 30Kw Leaf does an easy 100 miles, possibly 120 on a good day (range anxiety). 100 miles covers, literally, 90% of my daily driving.
    Also.. it's like driving a Rolls Royce. It's smooth and quiet, like a luxury car. Not for everyone but they make one hell of a 2nd car.

    • @MikesCarInfo
      @MikesCarInfo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the perfect setup. Having a solar setup capable of charging a car in a day is ideal!

  • @apoch003
    @apoch003 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The drag coefficient is 0.32. A Prius is 0.26. (Lower is better). Which is kind of odd since you'd think they'd want to go better.

      Alexander Leon Obviously a Tesla would be massively more expensive, but for those on a budget a 100 miles at 70 mph is no problem, providing there is a Rapid recharger roughly halfway. I do this at least once a week - 20 minutes to recharge makes a nice break for a toilet stop etc.

      Arnis Tarassu As far as I remember, it doesn't. Maybe the SL and SV being the posher versions. So if you live somewhere were winter temperatures fall close to freezing (0C or 32F... I think) or plummets far, far past that, then it's something you shouldn't go without. Although, I doubt South Carolina would demand something like that.

    • @tarassu
      @tarassu 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      toyotaprius79 True. Heat pump is not needed at temperatures above 10C/50F. I stop using "heating" button above that. For chilly mornings seat and steering wheel heater are perfect.
