    Do you know if this is a feasible long-term solution? As in me, an American citizen, staying in Schengen countries for 90 days, then moving to another European country for 90 days, then returning to the Schengen? (Without returning to USA, only back and forth between Schengen and non-Schengen, though still in Europe).
    I have had trouble finding a visa as of yet to move long-term to Europe, but I have the funds to travel and would be open to doing the 90/180 rule for several years bouncing in and out of Schengen whilst remaining in Europe.
    Does that second option fit the legal system without breaking Schengen rules?
    If so, what are my European options for my non-Schengen countries during my 90 days out of Schengen now that there have been Schengen additions?

      Great questions! I think it is certainly a possible solution for now. I am not an immigration lawyer but as long as you are staying inside of the rules you should be fine on a tourist visa. There are other "nomad visa" option available in some countries if you wish to stay in a specific country longer but it depends on your situation.
      Albania is a good one for U.S. citizens. 1 year on arrival visa free. Georgia is another as well. Beyond that it will depend on a multitude of factors for longer stays, most are within one country only.
      Pretty much the bulk of the balkans are non-schengen options as well as Turkey, Cyprus and Moldova for up to 90 days.

    Get a digital nomad visa for slovenia perhaps?

    • @TheWanderingHartz
      @TheWanderingHartz  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That may work for some. Digital Nomad Visas are certainly an option for those wishing to stay in a specific country longer term, but they have income and other requirements to consider.

    Hope Mr. Joel is feeling better. 👍😂🩺
    Thanks for the breakdown. The Shengen shuffle.
    What would be your drean 90 days in the Shengen zone and 90 days out?

    • @TheWanderingHartz
      @TheWanderingHartz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! I am on the mend 🤞 feeling much better now but not 💯 yet.
      That is a great question, and hard to answer as there are still quite a few european countries we haven't been to yet. I think our plan right now with the new/current schengen then probably split our 90 days exploring "new to us" countries and more time in Portugal and the other 90 split between Albania and more "new to us" countries.

    its 6 months when you enter and
    the passport must be less than 10 years old

    If you ask an average Bulgarian or Romanian, they will consider this "Air Schengen" imposed by Austria as insulting. In general in Bulgaria I think there are people fearing a migrant influx and many feel like 2nd class EU citizens. ETIAS is a joke and been postponed so many times.
    P.S. Gr8 mustache ;)

    • @TheWanderingHartz
      @TheWanderingHartz  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hopefully this will help Bulgarians and Romanians feel more appreciated once they get the land boarders sorted. As for ETIAS, yeah we feel the same way. I hesitated to include it but with the caveat that the date has changed many items already and may still change again.
      Thanks! 😃 We will see how long i keep the mustache 🤷‍♂️

      Yes certainly for us non-EU folks, we love spending our summers in Bulgaria and still be able to explore the rest of the zone. 😢

      @@TheWanderingHartz As someone that has been living abroad full-time in Costa 🇨🇷 Rica for over five years, the uncertainty of Europe has me looking at South America more as the next place to slow travel.

      Yeah Europe is certainly evolving. We know very little about south america but hope to check it out in the next few years. Costa Rica is quite interesting as well. How have you found your time there?

      @@TheWanderingHartz We also have two cats, which makes slow travel a bit more complicated than choosing to permanently reside in a foreign country (Neither cat likes to fly).

    I have a permanent visa to live in France. I gather those that don't want a residence visa is because they can't meet the income requirements.

      Ooh, France! We love the South of France. Perhaps for some, however there are many like ourselves who don't wish to live in just one country year round. We are not fans of winter 😉
