I was told by a friend who does models often that the LED variants dont tend to last too long so if you want the LED version of this kit I'd recommend sooner rather than later.

Can't confirm that myself, though when I looked in stores I've only seen 1 version of the kit listed

I'm building the Revell Titanic 1/700 and looking at the 1/200, it looks like a gigantic version of the Revell since the hull of the ship on the 1/700 is really detailed compared to the Minicraft 1/350 which its hull lacks the detail that both the 1/700 and this 1/200 have. ( have both Minicraft and Revell kits). For me it would be... 1. Trumpeter 1/200 2. Revell 1/700 w/aftermarket photo-etch, and wooden decks. 3. Minicraft 1/350 After I'm finished with the Revell, I was looking into building the Minicraft since I bought it when the centenary of the sinking occurred, but seeing this, I might just skip that and buy the Trumpeter.
Although I love model kits I mostly only build warships (for example USS enterprise cv-6 or HMS Belfast) but this model of the titanic looks amazing I’ve actually never bought a trumpeter model the only model companies I often buy from is tamiya (or how I got my HMS belfast is airfix) Maybe I’ll buy it but if it I can find a good deal for the trumpeter model, plus LED I might just buy it Highly detailed and looks pretty fun The only thing is that I’m not great at painting but I have painting tape so I might be able to try it Should I try it?
I am so envious! Ever since Titanic H&G's video some months back, I have been drooling over this kit. I had no idea one this large was in the works. However, the price is incredibly steep, even though you get a lot. I'm just not sure I can justify a price that large for a model. $180 for extra bits on top of an already very expensive model is a very large pill to swallow. Like you, though, I would want it for the ultimate version of this kit. lol I don't know why, but a month or so ago, TH-cam started pummeling me with all sorts of Titanic videos it suggests. It just came out of nowhere, and since then I've been watching them. I even dug out my old copy of A Night to Remember that I bought in 1997 in school. I read it back then, but I remembered nothing from it. For all intents and purposes it was the first time reading it. What a moving read. That's also about the time I got an Academy Minicraft 1/350 scale Titanic for Christmas. Since I was a kid back then, it looks terrible. But lately I've been extremely tempted to buy some photo-etched parts, tear it down, and restore it the way it should be done. It's mostly complete after all these years. I need some new decals and the anchor crane on the bow is missing. And now I'm seeing these Trumpeter 1/200 Titanic kits everywhere and it makes me drool. I might start making some reckless financial decisions. lol It'd be cool to see a progress video every now and then, if you feel like it, to see what you got done on it. :-)
Ive been working on it for about 4 months now documenting a lot of my progress on my youtube channel. The detail is so satisfying to see the progress. Some of the photo etch is like watch building. Just insane. Im about to start on the too decks now. Good luck to all who take this on. My advice is to watch every video you can on it before you even start it. Read everything you can because the detail is very specific and you cant just paint random colours or leave anything out. Plus there are many extra kits available to detail this puppy up even more.
I've purchased one of these huge kits (expensive!) and it is definitely ... TITANIC! At present,, I am working on another 1/200 model of Titanic from Schreiber-bogen models... this kit is entirely made from card stock and heavyweight paper, very detailed in its own right, but assembly can be a bit challenging as far as shaping certain parts after cut-out and getting those parts to align properly! I've finished the hull, although I had a few errors (which have been corrected as best as possible). The overall look is pretty cool and it gives me a slight preview of just how fantastic the Trumpeter Titanic will look once it's completed! Like you, Spammals, I think that the Trumpeter it IS the defining representation of the famous White Star liner!
Granted when building a model whether its molded in color or not you should always paint it, however in the case of Titanic's hull, it should have definitely been molded in black, it sure would have made it easier when drilling out the portholes, to have it in black that way one wouldn't need to touch up each hole with a brush that the spray missed, I just love ranting about the little things in life, but to those who are attempting to build this Titanic, we know it ain't no little thing! I just wish trumpeter thought more of this when molding the hull. I mean battleship hulls are gray, luxury liner hulls back then were usually black. Besides battleships don't have multiple portholes like the Titanic does, it just would have saved a lot of time. Happy modeling y'all. 😜👍✌
Hi Spammals, I have the kit too, but I notice that the rigging is missing! The lifeboat haven't the cover! And two lifeboat are missing! Why they made this mistake? I don't like the led kit: you can't put led directly on top of the deck!

No separate individual buildable decks from E deck all the way to A deck no buildable boilers or triple expansion steam engine. It a nice kit and all but not the titanic kit for me.

Would be nice to get everything else from one source, but I wonder about the quality of the wood decking. Might have to see some reviews before I grab these. Those metal parts (especially the propellers) would be a nice touch! As a bit of a woodworker, I'm planning on crafting a nicer wood base. Would be happy to work with you to craft something to your liking as well. But, who's kidding, we won't done to a point where we'd be ready for a final base for several years, lol
Their facebook page has a few more photos of the Bonus Parts advertised on the paper. I would love wooden decks but I really would like to see a detailed list of what the $180 gets us. It's a bit much to go in blind. People on facebook also seem to be having trouble getting a reply to their emails but given whats happening in china it's understandable for a delay. And yea i'm gonna be a very VERY long time before I'm ready for a display case :P
My last scale model of the titanic I left it on the fireplace and the back of it melted noo and it was one that i didn't have to paint too so thats just great oh and i hope you like yours spammals
If only I was patient enough to do modeling, I would love to build my own miniature railroad T.T This model is very impressive. I always wonder if stuff like that is functionnal. Would it float? I don't think so. But if would still be fun if it does. With an empty fish tank and some decorating, it could be given a nice presentation.
I adore this kit, if I had the extra $400-$500 I'd probably get it asap, who knows how long it'll be around
