At 19:15 where she hides the pin she enters seems funny, it's a smart idea ..., people often use the same four digit pin code for lots of things including banking if it's so required...., loving your channel.
Hello form 'Downunder" I take my land rover to a wonderful garage in Romsey central Victoria, Australia. My D4 is due for it's 240000K service and we are going to do diff and gears box oils, sealed for life (yeah right!) Anyway if they don't already know of your TH-cam I'm going to make sure they are given the info so they can follow you. Love your work! Love it!!!
I know this is an old video, but just watching it again as I only got my D4 about 6-weeks ago. Really good to be reminded on the emergency neutral lever and brake release. As mine is one of the last of the D4s (made in April 2016 and first registered in September 2016) it would have the the oil level fixes already done (thank goodness). Also, where I live, we have an excellent independent Land Rover specialist who I will get to do any work I can't do myself. One day, when I will drive through Germany, I will try and pop over so you can video what a RH-drive D4 looks like and you can compare the engine layout differences to your D4.
Brilliant! That oil sensor disaster is pure heritage 70s British Leyland: "That'll do the job lads, let's have a tea break - better still let's have a strike"
danke schön for the tip on the door locking, it also works on my Freelander 2 :) As a Freelander owner with a dipstick I laughed all the way through the oil level sensor part.
Thank you! Love your droll presentation style! My Discovery 4 has done less than 20,000km, but recently had a complete electrical failure without any warning. Luckily I was able to jump start and later replace the battery. Otherwise, your tips for releasing the hand brake and putting it in neutral without power would have been essential knowledge. I love my Disco's features, but I have serious concerns over its reliability and cost to repair because of designs like the oil level sensor..
Lol....loved this video.... laughing still now. Christian get your hole cutter out tap three holes and put it in without removing everything the German way 🤣
Thank you for buying an LR4. Most TH-cam videos are for the LR3 like all your videos. Other than the diesel difference, our LR4's are the same except for the transmission. Mine has the stick shift. Veilen Danke!
Well done Christian and Vera! The dipstick issue is an absolute abomination. I haven't heard about that so far. Here in the US we have the V8 gasoline engine. I am not sure if the messed up this engine as well. I use an independent Jaguar / LR shop and he definitely recommended to get LR3 and not an LR4. After the switch to the 5.0 direct injection V8 and other "upgrades" these vehicles won't even get near a LR3 lifespan. He has seen LR3s with 300-400,000 miles. The only downside with the 4.4NA V8 is the gas mileage 😳. I love your videos and your polite German ranting😁
👍😃 The diesel mileage on our LR4 is also not great. The LR4, with an automatic transmission, gulps more diesel than the LR 3. We did not expect this. 🙋♀️Vera
27:00 One useful thing to do in secret menu is, that you can display the reversing camera view while driving. Not useful very often, but it might sometimes.
👍 We know that, but we couldn't get it to actually work and show, so that is why it didn't make it into this video. But since there is so much more info we have, maybe we'll get it to work in our follow up video. 🙋♀️ Vera
Well now, I was thinking of buying an LR4 or LR3. Thanks to your vid, I guess it will be an LR3 just so I can have the relaibility of a real dipstick. My BMW 750i (E65) has the whole oil level sensor thing, but at least, it also still has a stick. I can kind of understand the need to protect the mechanicals from the uneducated and unwashed, but it escapes my logic as to how a dipstick isn't a viable "option" even if you have the sensor. Thanks again for a great vid!
Another cracking video love the humour and conversation between your good selves I agree who honestly ever thought the oil sensor setup was a good idea ! I would love 5 minutes with these Engineers to explain as you did the obvious failings lol.Enjoy your new vehicle and keep up the good work you make my Sunday’s so much better. As they say stay safe out there lol Here is a post I found with respect to the oil sensor issue as a workaround not sure if it works but hey after all we are Range Rover owners we live on the edge lol. Report post JamieLC wrote: I read on a post on here before that if you unlatch your bonnet, leave the driver door open then go into the service menu, select oil level and quickly hit cancel on the steering wheel as the gauge comes on it will give you a reading. I will try to find the post. Open bonnet, ignition on, service menu, oil level display, press (cruise) cancel twice quickly.
You two are brilliant. That’s why Brits love Germans, because they take the fizz out of us so nicely and in our own language which they speak better than us. Great video and I did learn a lot. That JLR guy who designed the inside oil sensor lives here……..
Many years ago, my Wife managed to put petrol in our 2014 diesel D4 - the defeat device isn’t always a lifesaver (and the repair bill was enormous, but thankfully covered by our insurance). Thanks for another entertaining video.
Great video and your sense of humour is spot on for Land Rover ownership. The oil level sensor inside the sump is truly unbelievable and my favourite followed by the water shedder. 😅
Vera and Christian, it sounds like the Land Rover engineers involved should receive the "hot oil treatment", if you know what that involves, LOL. Thank you for all the work you put into your videos. They are always crafted with the stated "German Engineering".
thank you so much my dad's LR4 sdv6 has been leaking oil I every mechanic said it was the turbo that was the problem. we replaced the factory engine and the new engine was smoking, after a week the crank snapped and now the engine is being replaced again.
On the Discovery II, the TD5 engine injector loom also leaks oil thru capillary action all the way from the engine to the ECU. Similar kind of issue, except that the loom is MUCH easier to replace.
Thanks Christian, you just put me off buying a Disco 4 or 3 for that matter! I have owned 4 Defenders, a Disco 1,a Range Rover Classic V8 BUT I am waiting for the Grenadier!! I like your videos, great for a few laughs and some serious information. I wonder if the oil sensor couldn't be retrofitted to the sump in the conventional way?? Surely it would be a relatively simple work around??
On closing windows with the key fob, I am sure you know you can also open all windows by pressing and holding the unlock button. Great video as always.
Christian and Vera love your work on LR. Im sure all the LR owners specially D4 owners around the world watching every single video you guys upload. Wish you all the best, Greetings from Mongolia.
Another great video guys, didn’t know the oil sensor was an issue, I’ve had my 2014 D4 3 ltr since new & never had any major problems, in fact I haven’t had any issues with it at all & am continually surprised by the amount of breakdowns & failures others have. 210k on the clock now & going strong. I service it myself & live in country Victoria , Australia. My cars have always lasted along time as I think country driving gets the car up to temp every time. I tow a lot also & use the transmission manually when towing to maximise engine breaking. No DPF is also a bonus. Will not be selling it until the wheels fall off is the best car I’ve ever owned. Looking forward to your D4 videos have enjoyed the D3 videos as well as am considering getting one as a second car.
I think driving relaxed and with good operating temperatures is the key to a long engine life. Short distance city traffic is the opposite. Our LR3 also did not have any engine issue other than EGR valves which is normal on any car. Hope you can keep it for an other 200tk. And if it breaks, simply fix it. It’s a Great car. Christian
Land rover must have used the BMW engineers. Our 2013 X5 has a oil gasket leak ... which means the lower frame and front suspension system needs to be removed ignorer to change the gasket. 11 hrs task. Luckily our 2011 LR4 oil sensor is still going strong. Really appreciate your all's videos
I only watched that film last night. It was the remake of Deathwish with Bruce Willis, the Valet pressed home on their satnav and took a picture of their home address before giving them back their car. They later tried to rob the house and killed Willis’s wife. Great video as always.
My 2020 Landcruiser still has a dip stick and to date has not failed to give me a reading. I’ll get back to you should it do so. It also has an oil pressure gauge which seems to work well too. Great video guys
Educational AND funny at the same time, combined with the sarcasm, made this incredibly enjoyable. I'm really thirsty for a Discovery 4 but reliability is a concern. That oil sensor in itself is almost a deal breaker for me, since with my luck it would probably break and I would not enjoy spending an entire weekend removing half the car to try and fix it... The Touareg seems more and more appealing the more I hear about idiotic things like this, even though that car probably has its fair share of problems too...
I don’t even own a Land Rover - or plan to buy one ( I do love them) - I own a Land cruiser and a GX460 - but I love love love your channel - best channel on TH-cam
I just bought an LR4 and and searched the internet for information. LR Time is both hilarious and fantastic for information. The interaction between Vera and Christian is very funny. I asked my wife to watch with me. There are so many great lines like "if it worked it wouldn't fit a Land Rover" or "If we had a toyota these videos would be changing oil and making coffee". LOL One comment and one question: 1) NEVER hit "Loading" in the "secret menu". It almost bricked my Nav unit. 2) Does anyone know where I can get the best shop manual for a 2013 online or, if not online, the best to buy?
Dropped 10k usd in my 2012 this year alone, but still looks great and drives well. Everytime something goes wrong, it is like a BOAT: break out another thousand.
Hallo liebe Leute von LR TIME!!!
25:00 - also works unlocking the car, you can wind all the windows down. With the headlight switch, you can turn the front on with the 1st click, with a 2nd click, the reverse lights will turn on too. And then, there's the raise/lower with the key fob too.. I have fun with that when taking wheels off - bottle jack in the dimple of the control arm, the car then 'levels' itself and picks the wheel up (so a couple of pumps) then when I'm done and the wheel back on, drop the bottle jack, grab the key fob and lift the car up
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. You guys are so compatible !! I don't even mind that you are pulling apart a brit icon ( even if it was a US build and now an Indian one).. Great work and thanks a lot. I am even more convinced I will never buy one of these. BRIT in Malaysia.
Hello Vera and Christian. I live near Köln and have recently bought the exact same vehicle. There was also a Rumänien connection. So im looking forward to your future LR4 Videos. Alles Gute.
Right off the bat here, You work in the Automotive industry you stated. And have never heard of Capillary effect , Really, you must have come out from under a rock yesterday.
@@Vera_and_Christian Ok I apologise for previous comments, after watching again without the coffee shop visit. German humour is new to me, but very well done all the same. 😢😢😢
Hi Christian and Vera hope you well the landrover discover 3 l have the hand break not working and been told cost me 1ooo pounds to have done 😳🙁 yes they cost money but still love it. Nice video as always keep safe looking forward to next one ❤️🇬🇧 am in the uk
Love that you also watch Matt's Off-road recovery - would like one of his recovery ropes!!! - great video, as a D3 owner I enjoyed sending the link to my D4 owning brother :)
Hi guys great video, the global window closing system was on my Rover 800 vitesse turbo 1997 , very good function , I didn’t know about locking single to all doors on key fob , so thanks to you I now do . Regards mark
Great set of video's Christian and Vera. A real learning and informative insight into all things Landrover Discovery 3&4. And, you guys are full of wit and and are good a laugh too. I thoroughly enjoy your series. Keep up the good work. All the best..👍🇬🇧🇩🇪🏴
Are some manufacturers no longer bothering with the global window close feature? I really prefer it as a window-open feature on a hot day to cool the car down before we get in. My current car (not an LR, unfortunately) is 2019 and does not have this feature. My previous 3 cars were equipped with it. Two would close the sunroof at the same time.
This is the funniest video that I ever watched on the quirks of the Land Rover Discovery LR4. Thank you for the laughs. I hope that you will have the chance to come to the USA and do some overland adventures.
We have lived in Michigan for 9 years, from '94 till '03. Every year, we went out west with our Jeep and traveled extensively. Back then it was still called camping, even so we slept most of the time in our car because of Grizzlies 😅👍. But Christian will be in Michigan this fall again for work. 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian what kind of work does Christian do? Here in America perfectionist is not a job any more. 😁. Lived in the US for 9 years, did you enjoy your time here? Michigan is not one of our best states to represent the US.
Thank you , thank you. Here in Malaysia, I recently found a LR worshop claiming to up the service for land rovers.. now I’m changing direction frm German SUV to this Discovery. Now considering looking for D4 or D3
Evening Vera and Christian. Fantastic as always with some great humour thrown in lol 😆 Watching this episode on our honeymoon in Plymouth so hopefully our marriage with have as much fun 🤩 xx
Hi Christian, great video. I wonder whether it it is possible to make a manual dipstick to check the oil level through the oil extraction tube? If you have a home made referenced dipstick, if the sensor failed at least you could check the oil level manually.
Thanks for the showing us towing and handbrake release in case of towing. A lot of those features are the same on the Range Rover Sport L320 after retailing update in 2010. Yes, battery icon is for phone
this video is so funny, well done guys. Also if the car is locked and the windows are closed if you press and hold down the unlock button it will also open the windows! did you know that? 😂😂
You can use the other side of your reset tool to trigger the mis fuel flap, to test if the flap works or to demonstrate the function of the flap and tool.
Great guys! I am not quick enough to Tell you the FOB works also for lowering the windows…. Someone Else did already🙄 But Christian, check your diesel tank. Its says in the manual it takes 85 liter. I habe never been able to put more than 70 in it. Warning said already no km left😂. Question is if I could run it dry to figure out how much diesel actually gets in…. Lot of people say it will ruin the injection system.
Running out of Diesel is a large risk and should be avoided. The tank is really long and flat under the car and it takes a lot of fuel to get a minimum level. First the low pressure pump runs out and gets air bubbles in. That is to be avoided. It will not destroy the injection system immediately but it could cause expensive repairs. Christian
You two are not only very informative but hilarious, you’ve cheered me up. Keep up the good work
I have to say I thought I wanted a Discovery 4 until I saw this video. Thank You.
The Discovery 4 are excellent cars if kept maintained - but this oil level sensor is a stupid design laziness - incredible FAIL

😃👍 we had that covered in our 15 things... video on our Discovery 3, that's why we did not put in here. But there will be more to come. 🙋♀️ Vera
Learnt all of them, going to try tomorrow
Thank you both for the channel . 1 your interesting show has me thinking about buying a discovery and this video means I will be buying a Discovery 3
😅👍🙋♀️Vera
Lol you guys are just awesome love the chemistry between you how always seem happy together. I wonder if u ever upset each other ?
😅👍 Sometimes it does happen 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian has it ever happened while filming?? 😎
I learned about the oil level sensor. :)
You can open all the windows with the remote fob too.
thanks guys always informative !
Hello Vera and Christian. I live near Köln and have recently bought the exact same vehicle. There was also a Rumänien connection. So im looking forward to your future LR4 Videos. Alles Gute.
😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
I'm looking to buy a LR 4 in the States . Love your videos !
Right off the bat here, You work in the Automotive industry you stated. And have never heard of Capillary effect , Really, you must have come out from under a rock yesterday.
This must have been the first video you have watched from us 😅👍. 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian 🤣🤣Spot on, and the last.
@@Vera_and_Christian Ok I apologise for previous comments, after watching again without the coffee shop visit. German humour is new to me, but very well done all the same. 😢😢😢
Superb!! water shedder!! Perhaps water displacer.
Hi, no secret for Christian 👏Thank you to all 2
Hi Christian and Vera hope you well the landrover discover 3 l have the hand break not working and been told cost me 1ooo pounds to have done 😳🙁 yes they cost money but still love it. Nice video as always keep safe looking forward to next one ❤️🇬🇧 am in the uk
We have a video on how to fix the EPB. th-cam.com/video/eUSUCN4zi34/w-d-xo.html😃👍 Maybe you check that out before spending 1000€🙋♀️ Vera
....and I loved the video! Thank you.
Great video! You can also open all 4 windows by pressing and holding the unlock button on the key fob. The doors will stay locked.
Love that you also watch Matt's Off-road recovery - would like one of his recovery ropes!!! - great video, as a D3 owner I enjoyed sending the link to my D4 owning brother :)
Thanks! Matt’s off-road is very entertaining. One of my favorite channels. Christian
I think I love you guys as a couple ☺️ I don’t even care about the car anymore.
😄👍🙋♀️ Vera
😃👍 You'r going to love it. 🙋♀️ Vera
The 'window close by remote', was also on the '95 Range Rover P38 (- just hold 'lock' on remote for ~1.5 seconds).
Evening Vera and Christian. Fantastic as always with some great humour thrown in lol 😆 Watching this episode on our honeymoon in Plymouth so hopefully our marriage with have as much fun 🤩 xx
😅👍 Congratulations on your wedding. 🙋♀️ Vera
In our latest video, we actually had to pull that red lever 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian oh no..
this video is so funny, well done guys.
Also if the car is locked and the windows are closed if you press and hold down the unlock button it will also open the windows! did you know that? 😂😂
😃👍 There is much more to come. Can't fit it all in one video. 🙋♀️ Vera
Fantastic Tips Vera and Christian. I have a Freelander 2 2010, and the door lock function also works on that 😊😊
You can use the other side of your reset tool to trigger the mis fuel flap, to test if the flap works or to demonstrate the function of the flap and tool.
😄👍 we didn't know that 🙋♀️
love this video, and love the talk about the oil sensor, kills me. we definitely don’t want the angry mob 😂😂
Question the day this oil sensor fails, I'll attempt to bore a hole to mount this sensor the way it was intended to.
Great guys! I am not quick enough to Tell you the FOB works also for lowering the windows…. Someone Else did already🙄
But Christian, check your diesel tank.
Christian
