I brought some cheap nut files that are absolute garbage and i ruined a nut with them but they inspired me to go out and buy a decent set of Hosco files and couldn't be happier. I do own a few of the cheap tools in your video that work perfectly fine so in some cases cheap can definitely get the job done.

Great vid, i used the string action ruler as a fret rocker OR a plastic businesses card for a longtime.
the "string action ruler" is such a needed tool for setups,
and a good explanation video on how to use all the sides of the ruler. great job Kennis

Love your videos & information. My advice: Buy Good Stuff 1x and do the Job correctly.

fret guards, string action ruler, fret rocker, etc need to make sure the edges are clean and smooth or you could create scratches. Some fret guards can be pretty rough in Amazon kits.

I have seen your previous video: your wife gifting you 10-12 guitar tools on a birth day.
By coincidence, a KKMoon set of luthier tools for stringed instruments was bought by me just yesterday from Amazon.
It is from China. And the radius gauges were having unfinished surface. It poked right into my finger and bled me.
The filler gauges are more fearful for me. I am going to use the sanding block that came with it to finish all unfinished tools which can hurt physically.
    Well, good review.
For me, I am yet to start using the tools which I have no other choice with my limited financial resources. But anyway I will send you a personal comment after 6 months or so at least when I would have used some tools at least from the 12 or 14 I got.
    Best wishes from India.

Interesting, neat little kit, though I can’t see them lasting very long. Could use one of those measurement kits.

Great review! I'm looking to buy some nut files and I found out that it is best to get the good ones for that project and they do cost a pretty penny.

I saw a video of a guy using his strings to file down the nut slots. No need to buy a set?? Next time you take your strings off just use them - run the string back and forth through the slot. Seemed to work fine for him. Just my 10p worth.

Great video, I’m wondering if I can get a decent soldering iron on Amazon or at harbor freight. My old one from radio shack isn’t cutting it anymore. ;)

Saw a few reviews on amazon stating that that the string height measure was off. How did the one in your kit fare?

What was the price on the tool that was bent?

  • @SupposedlyFree
    @SupposedlyFree 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

If you can bend a file it ain't worth s**t. A file should be hardened, if you try and bend it, it should snap in half.

Those cheap fret crowning files are terrible. The cheap kits contain a few good tools and a few bad ones. They're a scam and a terrible deal with half of the tools unuseable. People should just buy the important tools separately, like in your earlier tool vid. It's cheaper because you just choose the decent ones. Stewmac's kits OTOH are good quality tools but terribly over-priced, plus they contain some tool choices that are not best practice tools for the job.

In other words.. It will work but you get what you pay for
