um there are actually some other animations that are easily to be recognized and still bad. for me its this style. and then there are others that are easily to be recognized but good. like jjba's artstyle.
+Evergames not only the best in the series, but also amongst the greatest games ever made. yes this is coming from a guy who has invested over 220+ hours into the Witcher 3 (ps4), 150+ hrs into tes4: oblivion..etc. safe to say that dq8 on ps2 is what Witcher 3 is on the ps4.
The stories of the Dragon Quests games are always so superficial and kiddy. I want something a little more psychologically engaging and well thought out. I can see how players would like the Japaneses fairy tale style but I just wish they were a bit more. I played though DQ8 and after I beat it I just kinda felt empty.

But no...because "maybe your mother and father cant be upset" so they changed the costumes design before the release in japan...

The Japanese release of Dragon Quest V on PS2 has better music presentation than this game. For those who are saying that the music is midi because of "tradition". I regret to inform you that the real reason the music is like this is because Sugiyama as part of his contract restricts the orchestra version of the soundtrack as so it does not infer with the sales of his CD albums. Please don't give me this "traditional" crap excuse.
Cannot wait for this game but the midi instruments don't make for a charming or nostalgic soundtrack, it's just weird. You've got these beautiful, modern visuals paired with sound straight from the SNES. Would have loved an orchestral soundtrack like in DQ8.

This game IS a next gen Jrpg in the truest sense. Love it! Loved DQ8 all those yrs ago. Companies r too worried that ppl won’t like the old formula, but the popularity of indies today should speak volumes of the desire so many of us have to play our old favorites on nice new shiny engines.
DQ still has the majority of the same staff working on it to this day, the love is still there. FF lost its love along the way. I'm not saying that no one except the originals can do it right, I'm saying the people doing it now have no idea what Final Fantasy even is.
FF15 was a development nightmare where they took too much time conceptualizing the game and not enough time actually making the game. It'll be another two years before it's actually even finished and they're still gonna call it DLC and make you pay for it.

They just assume we're wrong/stupid and the developers are out of touch. No, we're called fans, they don't have to be fans, and the game certainly doesn't need to be adjusted to change their minds.
I don't know how I feel about the camera for battles. The characters idling Is too stiff. It would have been better if when picking attacks it's in first person like the old games and you only see the characters when attacking. The battles in 8 just looked better. My only gripe.
The 3DS version does it (goes into first person when choosing enemies). I'm hoping that this could be something that can be easily modded on the PC version.
HelloFiora agree completely. Persona 5 was amazing. The spot where this could potentially separate itself from P5 is that P5 had very limited areas to explore (albeit much more than P4) and that has generally been a huge strength for DQ games (especially the towns). Where I do think P5 will still stay ahead of DQ is the combat which I think was probably the best I've seen in any JRPG and the story.
final fantasy xv was a bad game really it feels incomplete in many ways still I enjoyed playing it, Persona 5 was a masterpiece, the music, the gameplay, the history, everything was nearly perfect, Dq looks very nice and im sure that it will be the best Jrpg in the year, the only problem I find in Dq is the music it makes the game feel boring . . . . Pd: I'm not counting divinity 2 or pillars of eternity 2 because they are isometric and people usually don't play them but bot are masterpieces in his own way
Ismael hyos martinez Ik some people have been complaining about the music but you have to remember the composer Koichi Sugiyama is almost 90 years old and he has been making music for Dragon Quest since the beginning so he is only sticking to what he knows. I agree the music could sound more orchestrated like in Dragon Quest VIII but I can't tell you for sure why they didn't do it this time.
My only question, is can we still change our main characters class? It's okay if we can't, but I always loved the multi-class or specialized class mechanic.
dragoon Not this time unfortunately. The characters have set roles and you can't use monsters in battle. However I'm pretty sure there's a monster mount system :-D
I finish this game in Japan version and trust me, it definitely worth for your money. at least 100hour+ gameplay . 200hour+ without watching any walkthrough (play by yourself)
That the music is orchestrated doesn't neccessarily make it any better or more "real music". It can be an artistic choice to use midi. Some of the orchestrated music in dqviii sounded kinda clumsy and too reverberated with the orchestra, where the midi version was tighter.

Wow...the balance is totally different from 6~8, and even a bit from 9. It's interesting. 3~5 are based around a 255 stat cap, with likely 300~400 HP by end game, 500 in the post-game for the heavy hitters, 180~250 for the mage-types. 6~8 is based around "pretending" to have a 500 stat cap, with 7~9 all capping at 999, but stat rolls generally naturally cap around 400 (with classes 500 in 6, 7, and 9) for heavy hitters/Hero (who is a heavy hitter in the later games). It feels like we're having a slower growth system. I'd be expecting Frizzle and Sizzle at those HP and MP values, with the Hero's base damage in the 40's at this point. Based on where they're at in the storyline, it feels more like the general stat growth, minus level and HP/MP values is more tied to 3~5's output, and spell list...except for those levels and HP/MP, which are really high, and the skill/spell availability reminiscent of 9's slow as fudge Magic growth...and technically skill growth if one plays a single class in the main game (maybe 2 at most...with perhaps one class change per character as the 2nd tier become available). It's very different in terms of balance. It's so odd to see 20's and 30's, and Frizz retained for so long into such a high level, with such high HP values. Interesting. Each game is balanced so differently from 6 through to 9...and clearly now with 11. 6 had some really rough normal battles, with REALLY high defense values on normal enemies, and high resistances. 7 has like no resistances and very little defense to deal with...even for high def enemies, however it's balance was based on longevity and slow progression...with a very lower encounter rate. 8 is all over the place, with spikes and really large groups, with the belief most players will aim for AoE skills to clear mobs...and some really rough boss fights in between the spiked difficult and easier areas. 9 is just rough unless you abuse class change, with monsters fighting prowess tied more to your skills than spells, leaving mages behind in the dust... This seems to be a slow growth system in the beginning that gradually sees almost exponential increases from what i can tell, tied more to skills, and with it longer normal battles to really utilize everything...like 9, only without the ability to cheese the game like 9 provided.

Man I cannot wait for this! Although picking up stuff in the field looks a bit slow... they could have taken a hint from BOTW on that and had picking up items in the wild be quicker. I also wish more RPG's incorporated more interactivity in battles, such as being able to hit the button just as an attack lands to do a little bit of extra damage or prevent a little damage when hitting the button when an attack lands on your character. This game doesn't feature that by chance does it?
skins4thewin Not every game needs to be BOTW. If you want an Action RPG there's already plenty to choose from, but Dragon Quest is a turn based series and the main games will ALWAYS be turn based. If you think this game is "too slow" then it's not for you.
Procrastinitus - You are taking what I said way too far. Incinuating that I'd rather have a full on action RPG based on the things I said is totally absurd. I was simply referring to the types of mechanics that many other JRPG's employ such as Mario RPG to name just one. I was also simply stating that it may have been better to be able to pick up items in the field without having to go through a bend over animation each time. While it's more realistic I imagine it would get old after a while.

This is a day 1 purchase on my Ps4 I do not need a review I do not need to wonder if it will be good, they are, always have been they just rarely come to us in the Western part of the globe :)

you cannot look me in the eye and tell me That DQ8’s orchestral soundtrack is better than the original midi ost The orchestrations for the most part lacked any real punch that the midi versions have Higher sound quality≠Quality soundtrack I’m not kidding, aside from the more emotional pieces, the orchestrated ost is basically one huge snoozefest. I’m not sure if it had to do with the acoustics in the room they were recording in or what, but the midi versions sounded way more balanced than the orchestrations.

Volo each title is stand-alone and has a different story so you are fine from a knowledge stand point. The games are turn based RPGs and have a standard progression system, you level up, stat boost and new skills/abilities. You may find new gear that also augment your stats. Usually there is alot of quirky humor, fun and challenging side quests with riddles and puzzles, and engaging mainstory.
Took a 2 week vacation for when this game comes out! Damn I can't wait =P I do think I'll be playing my own music though. I've been playing DQ games since Dragon Warrior 1 on the NES when I was a wee tike. I appreciate the hell out of the music, but damn I'd like to hear some updates, some twists, some new stuff. From what I can tell so far in every trailer, every damn outdoor area of the game and every battle (except bosses maybe) is the exact same tune. I used to listen to a lot of NIN in the 90s while playing DQ games, so maybe I'll be doing that ;)

They really set the musical bar with DQ8, makes no sense to work with a producer that won't put orchestrated music into a game.

This seems to be a slow growth system in the beginning that gradually sees almost exponential increases from what i can tell, tied more to skills, and with it longer normal battles to really utilize everything...like 9, only without the ability to cheese the game like 9 provided.

Kidding you, in what way? I've played every DQ multiple times. It's my favourite series. I'm quite familiar with the gameplay and general flow of the games. So what exactly do you take issue with.

Man I cannot wait for this! Although picking up stuff in the field looks a bit slow... they could have taken a hint from BOTW on that and had picking up items in the wild be quicker. I also wish more RPG's incorporated more interactivity in battles, such as being able to hit the button just as an attack lands to do a little bit of extra damage or prevent a little damage when hitting the button when an attack lands on your character. This game doesn't feature that by chance does it?
skins4thewin Not every game needs to be BOTW. If you want an Action RPG there's already plenty to choose from, but Dragon Quest is a turn based series and the main games will ALWAYS be turn based. If you think this game is "too slow" then it's not for you.
Procrastinitus - You are taking what I said way too far. Incinuating that I'd rather have a full on action RPG based on the things I said is totally absurd. I was simply referring to the types of mechanics that many other JRPG's employ such as Mario RPG to name just one. I was also simply stating that it may have been better to be able to pick up items in the field without having to go through a bend over animation each time. While it's more realistic I imagine it would get old after a while.
skins4thewin That wouldn't be Dragon Quest. They've kept the same formula since the classics and that's why it makes them so much $$$ in Japan. If they changed the mechanics like that, the fans would be furious.

This is a day 1 purchase on my Ps4 I do not need a review I do not need to wonder if it will be good, they are, always have been they just rarely come to us in the Western part of the globe :)

The orchestrations for the most part lacked any real punch that the midi versions have
Higher sound quality≠Quality soundtrack
I’m not kidding, aside from the more emotional pieces, the orchestrated ost is basically one huge snoozefest.
I’m not sure if it had to do with the acoustics in the room they were recording in or what, but the midi versions sounded way more balanced than the orchestrations.

Volo each title is stand-alone and has a different story so you are fine from a knowledge stand point. The games are turn based RPGs and have a standard progression system, you level up, stat boost and new skills/abilities. You may find new gear that also augment your stats. Usually there is alot of quirky humor, fun and challenging side quests with riddles and puzzles, and engaging mainstory.

Took a 2 week vacation for when this game comes out! Damn I can't wait =P I do think I'll be playing my own music though. I've been playing DQ games since Dragon Warrior 1 on the NES when I was a wee tike. I appreciate the hell out of the music, but damn I'd like to hear some updates, some twists, some new stuff. From what I can tell so far in every trailer, every damn outdoor area of the game and every battle (except bosses maybe) is the exact same tune. I used to listen to a lot of NIN in the 90s while playing DQ games, so maybe I'll be doing that ;)
