@@rarebee3743 that's not an answer to the question he asked. Have you ever seen Wylde Audio Warhammer? That gets a yes or no reply. There is no "wrong". He asked a question. He didn't make a statement. I know words are hard but at least try. Jesus Christ.
Dime was killed, but his legacy lives on. And Zakk is one of the many guitarists that carry on his name. Dime is and always will be with us. He's a guitar god just like Jimi Hendrix and Randy Rhoads. All taken before their time...
I honestly love zakk. I get that he plays the fuck out of pentatonic scales and uses a shit ton of wah but I just love the way he plays. He is truly my inspiration to playing guitar. He is extremely fast and I love the pinch harmonics. In MY opinion zakk is a great guitarist.
You are correct sir, Zakk is one of the best of all time. You don't need to play every mode in the book to be creative Zakk and Dime both proved that, they wrote some of the baddest riffs and solos ever using box shapes and 5th chords. It's all what you can do with the shapes and how you bend 'em.
Doesn't always need to be super complex prog arpeggio sweeps all the time, there's not much soul to that kind of playing. These days I just want simple, soulful, muscle guitar, stuff to get me through all the bullshit happening, be it this horse shit scamdemic, or other life hurdles and everything being super complex is the last thing I need, life is already super complex. I spent alot of my life playing both the biker metal stuff and alot doing that complex 8 string Tosin Abasi prog stuff, the soulful fun stuff on a 6 string is way more fun to me though learning to thump and sweep was a challenge that I enjoyed when I was 20- 24 years old, now I've gone back to the basics and prefer it, easier to write stuff that's just nice and 4 to the floor than a song with 8 time signature changes, 7 tempo changes, thumping, sweeping, and all this other crap to make you feel like you're part of that massive guitar pecker weighing contest, all that stuff doesn't always add up to a memorable song.
I got to meet Zakk at Ozzfest and like Dime he was an ordinary dude with extordinary skills. Told him he ripped the fucking roof of the Assylum where I saw him the year before and he said thanks man I really appreciate that. Signed my Black Label Society DVD got up, shook my hand and said see you at the show. He had tough shoes to fill and managed like all the greats found his own style and can play anything with extreme precision. One of the most dedicated and disciplined guitarist of my generation and his axe collection then and his own line now as beastly as his playing . 💪 🎸🔊🔊🔊
Most people don't really know that he can actually play pretty much whatever he wants. He *chooses* to only play pentatonic. To me, that actually makes it *worse.* I watched a video with him doing sweep arpeggios and tapping some stuff, and he says that he prefers to play the pentatonic stuff. *WHY* would you limit yourself like that?!
You fuckin shred!! Saw you live with the OZ a couple of times!! Just bad ass!! Breathed new life into the Ozzy sound!! Thanks for making the music and inspiring me!
The reason you can't tune a floyd is you don't wanna learn. Stay with a fixed bridge if you like but i love my floyds. Never had a problem with em and string changes take twenty minutes.
Les Pauls always have had a fuller and mellower tone than most other guitars, so that is the biggest factor to the tone. He's played Les Pauls from day one, so i think his style is more suited for LP's myself.
He truly loves guitar, the instrument itself, you can see he's in love of his guitars;I feel the same for mine.I would like to get his pedals, very nice choices.Great guy Zakk.
Did anyone notice what amp he was using here ? Ha ! It looks like a small low Watt MG series combo ! Everyone says they are junk. I have never heard a MG sound so good ! If it was possible to plug a guitar into a toaster Zakk would make it sound good.
They were truly brothers in every sense of the word. Saw Zakk live a year after Dimes death and he brought out that guitar and talked from his heart and soul about his fallen brother and did what what Dime would have wanted. Grinded the fuck out of that axe.
@62SG the OD is on full blast cuz he turns all the knobs off and then rips the knobs off so it doesnt move on stage. The OD is not very transparent and does change his tone a bit and with the JCM 800 and the MG series he is playing with on this video he could get a decent tone but the ZW OD does help and its awesome which is why i got one.
as it turns out i ran across an old fender bullet about a week ago. it played really great so i traded a welding machine for it. i striped it down and bought a loaded pickguard with bill lawrence blade an HH pattern and stripped all the whatever the hell it was off it. (it damn sure wasnt paint) and did an evh job on it and it sounds and plays amazing. i found my fender!!!!
Dammit brother i sure am glad you said they put the bulls eye on it just for you. For a second and only a second it looked like you was creepin off dime. After runnin it back it completely tasteful and very cool. Thank You for keeping his name alive. I think it's going to be my next guitar and i am seriously thinking and i hope they have it but i would love to have the lightning and the bullseye mixed would be bad ass.
The first one is known as the Muddy Bullseye. Dean still makes it, and it's known as the Splittail. The second one is a dean Razorback that Dimebag had specially made for Zakk. Dime had one made for EVH too, but I guess Ed didn't want it.
@Stashitquick The only things that are on all the time are the OD and chorus. The OD isn't at full blast. He has the Gain and Output at 2 o'clock and the tone at 12 oclock. The OD doesn't change his tone, it just gives him more sustain and low-end. Without it his amps (even with the gain maxed) only go as far as Angus Young. The chorus fattens things up. The others are occasional effects. Its probably the EMGs that make all his guitars sound similar. And his playing, of course.
If you watch carefully, he cracks up at the end. He's a very funny guy. He has an understated style when he's giving instruction or talking about himself.
Damn I was hoping he would have one with his original paint scheme that looked like shattered glass (Google Zakk Wylde 80s) that scheme looked so much more bad ass!
@Stashitquick The knobs aren't at full blast. In his old Guitar World column he was asked what settings he uses and he said the Gain and Output were at 2 o'clock and the tone was at 12. You're right that he ripped the knobs off so they wouldn't move though.
I understand that many people like the Les Paul and that's OK. But I'll take my USA Jackson RR1 over a Paul or any of these any day and here is why. 1. Neck-Through body. What can I say? It's the best design when your neck goes all the way through the body. 2. Original Floyd Rose. No need to add one, it's already there. 3. Seymour Duncan Pickups. These sound great just as they are. I don't need no EMGs TYVM. 4. No body in the way at the 22nd fret at all. 5. Thin Neck, built for speed.
@Stashitquick Probably because thats what colour Zakk's is. They either use cream paint or age the white under a UV lamp. My guess is they age the paint. I know Epiphone mixes some vanilla into their paint for the guitar to get it looking cream.
It depends. Different companies can make different pedals that don't sound similiar. So if you take a BOSS pedal against a Digitech pedal. They're gonna sound really different. So i would go to like a Guitar Center or something and just play around on the different pedals to see what fits you.
The first guitar is a Dean Razorback Dime signature. I guess that it's just like the top model, but with the bullseye target customized for Zakk. And it might have the stack pickups, no EMGs. Dimebucker and stuff.
sounded like that gold top les paul had the all around better tone. and he seem to be more comfortable with that. man, i'd love to get one of those les pauls
@inventhead A good setting for Zakk's tone would probably be bass : 10 middle: 3 treble:10 gain:10 Then, you can use the Wylde Overdrive pedal from MXR and the Zakk signature wah from Dunlop, that's it, I think

Yep I know. But for videos I've normally seen him with a valvestate. Its interesting he isn't using his signature JCMs anymore or at least nearly as much as he used to.
I've seen him use a valvestate in the BLS videos where its like Zakk warming up, the video where he "teaches" the No More Tears" solo, and some others, can't think of them all off the top of my head. But I was reading on Zakk's forum that he doesn't really use his signatures JCMs and something about his people trying to collect all of the existing ones for some reason. I'm not entirely sure so don't quote me on it. But if you go to the Zakk Wylde forum you can find answers to a lot.
@Stashitquick Gibson's is white for a reason. They use nitro paint which ages to that yellowish cream over time. Thats why if you look at picture of Zakk in the 80s his bullseye Les Paul is white and black but nowadays its cream and black. If they sold it in cream from the get-go after a few years it would fade into a deep yellow.
In my experience, guitar teachers tell you to use your wrist - not your arm - for picking. Zakk uses his entire forearm aswell, and he's way better than most guitarists these days.
The other Tremolo bar he's talking about I think is the Kahler which can be found on Gibson, Jackson and ESP to name a few. That or he was talking about a Bigsby, but I doubt it cause you can't even do a full dive with one.
The REAL big 4: Eddie, Zakk, Randy and Dime. So sad two of them were taken away from us way too early!
Now 3. Rip Eddie
Zakk is the sole survivor
Umm randy was in the 80s guy
Can’t forget Jake E. Lee. He saved Ozzy when Randy passed and was the perfect replacement.

Zakk is an awesome guitar player. His tunes are raw and pure.
