Hilarious. I worked in Frimley Park Hospital as a ward waiter when I was 16. I absolutely loved Theme Hospital and had no idea they used FPH as part of the research for the game. I was probably still playing the game when I worked there. That said, Bullfrog offices used to be up the road in Guildford, so it makes sense!
I still load up Theme Hospital from time to time. it was the first of its kind that I played properly. with theme park I never quite got it until I was in my late teens but theme hospital gripped me from he start. it may have been the way me and my dad who works for the NHS played it together to see the weird and wonderful diseases people came in with. it also got me asking questions about the equipment and in turn discovered a new love for the NHS that I didn't have before due to being too young and naive. Thanks Dan for another great video. The Tycoon series next?
I actually preferred this to Theme Park but this game had the same big issue where things would blow up and part of your hospital would become unusable and that's my worst aspect of the game.
Well yes - making plots of space permanently unusable was boths games incentive to take ride/machinery maintenance seriously. Like many other tasks in the games that was a thing that could not be left entirely to it's own devices. You sometimes had to actively intervene in your maintenance staffs priorities to make sure things didn't blow up.
@@troelshansen6212I think Rollercoaster Tycoon managed it better, where you could schedule ride inspections every 10/20/30/60mins etc depending how busy/big the park was and your number of staff. Then you knew if rides broke down often you needed to have them checked more frequently or hire more staff. In Theme Hospital, if a machine broke, that was it, wasted room. You couldn't even delete the room and buy a new one.
I loved this game, got it when it came out (also played life and death a lot, I was really wanting to be a doctor as a kid, better or worse did not turn out that way) I think the real reason the NHS was pissed was that Theme Hospital really made clear how hospitals are businesses and are there to make money, not help people.
Dungeon Keeper is one of my fav games of all time. I remember when I first played Theme Hospital and seeing Horny sitting there, it made me lol. Bullfrog was a great game studio, and I was so sad when they were dissolved.
It's worth mentioning that CorsixTH makes compatibility with modern operating systems better including full 16:9 support, as well as adding more content.
Absolutely adore this game. I managed to complete it a long time ago and it took many many many many hours to do. Got this on my PS1 but it struggles with too much on the Screen at once. PC version is by far the best one. Very comical, challenging, colourful, and creative game. The worst bit about it was those horrible earthquakes which wreck your machinery. All in all an enjoyable game which I must go back to. Thanks for The upload, always nice to find out more about these classic games.
I keep going back to it every so often and keep getting stuck on about level 7 or 8 and give up. I even found a walkthrough a few years back to try finish it.
I had this game when I was a kid, and I could never make much progress in it since I found it to be too difficult, so I always had to sit back and watch my older siblings play it instead. Thanks for making this video, Dan, your _Complete History_ series has quickly become one of my favourites on youtube! :D
Nosrep Suomynona Holy fuck. This. THIS. That's it, I'm learning to make a video game just so I can create this! I already, after seeing this for 2 seconds, have a basic outline and I am starting a spec list!
I got this game for free on Origin but honestly I have yet to play it. Also how the hell is it that they still don't have a single Theme Park game on there but they have this one? So weird...
I would play theme hospital for hours as a kid. I loved the humour and the music and all the different illnesses. It was just funny. Good fun to play. Miss those days
I still play Theme Hospital to this day on PC. Still holds up for it's humour and how addictive it can be to make your own hospitals. Made more than many to count lol. Great video Slopes
So much nostalgia!! I owned all 3 of those games you showed at the beginning. I was c&c obsessed as a kid and bought total annihilation and the kingdoms version plus the Warcraft games, those and Krush Kill and Destroy and boat load more lol The "theme" games were great as were the "tycoon" games. I miss those old classics
another awesome video slope. just the level of care in your vids make them a pleasure to watch, just a bonus that the content is always interesting. you deserve so many more subs mate.
I'm glad EA haven't made a new Theme Hospital game. If they did, it'll probably be on mobile devices, filled will microtransactions. Anyone remember what EA did with dungeon Keeper Mobile, because I sure as shit haven't forgotten!?
Keep an eye on Two Point Hospital, billed as a spiritual successor to Theme Hospital. time will tell if it works as a sequel or if it's just the same game, but 3D. Worth keeping an eye on regardless. Due out this year, apparently =)
Theme Hospital is always a game close to my heart. I heard Theme Hospital is getting an Open Source version just like Open Transport Tycoon, but I haven't heard much about it. I am however excited to see the new Ultima Underworld game and System Shock 3, plus System Shock remake
If I may: given a new entry is forthcoming, and the sheer amount of confusion due to remakes and such, a Complete history entry on the Ys series would be interesting AND tImely.
there was going to be more in the theme games series like Theme Movie Studio Theme Resort, Theme Prison, Theme Ski Resort, and Theme Airport, would being nice to see what these games would be like. all got canned and never made it past the concept stages
Thank you for the memories, was bloody brilliant that game. I worked security in a hospital for years, that was one of my favorite things to do was to explore it and ask all the technicians about their fancy machines and jobs. The biostorage room is kind of disturbing, just like boxes stacked in a fridge with body parts yaay; excited to see what I get next Saturday morning to grace my laptop screen! On a side note, you make a handsome woman.
Total Annihilation is my favourite game of all time. Pretty decent in singleplayer but the multiplayer is an absolute dream, and still pretty active 20 years on.
I have so much great memories with this one :-) - I played it alot, even if as a kid i never really understood most of it, but i always came back to it.
it’s strange the NHS would not like this game as this is one of the few games that my little sister owned and played all the time who grew up to go and work for the NHS and still does to this day
Heh... invincibility would be a funny disease in Theme Hospital: like a big fuck off room with various swords, guns and explosives, and the doctor just tries to kill his patient for a while, until pulling out a BFG-9000 and vaporising him into the thin air! At the end of the procedure Death shows up with a grade card - it was an 8.
i was lil kid in 90s and didnt understand what the rules even were.. but theme park i'd constantly get bankrupt, but found hospital easier as a lil kid to do it and succeeded far in it
my copy had this dodgy glitch where around the 5th level it wouldn't allow me to continue as patients were not being diagnosed properly or something like that, so i never actually completed it, i got another copy years later and it was the same thing.
I got Theme Hospital in the summer of 98 when it came out on the PlayStation. Despite being inferior to the PC original, which I wouldn't get to play til the mid 2000s, I still love the PlayStation version, it's one of my favorite games on the system! I even remember before my mom when to rent it for me (and bought it for me a few weeks later) I asked her to get me a PlayStation mouse! Only to find out that despite the original PC game being mouse reliant, the PlayStation version does NOT support the mouse.
Is there any chance there might be a revised or updated version of this video to include Two Points Hospital? Sure, it may technically be a spiritual successor, but it was still hand-crafted by Carr and Webley along with a staff of mostly ex-Bullfrog, Muckyfoot, and Lionhead employees in a Molyneux free environment.
According to GamesTM, there was an article in The Daily Telegraph that said Theme Hospital was "sick" and that the British Medical Association were using the game to train management. Do you know anything about this?
Clicks on a video about ThemeHospital, gets an ad for Two point hospital... I get the feeling someone is trying to tell me something here but I'm not sure.
My favourite game, played it even when I actually went to hospital; helped easy the pain "on the mend" with cases like invisibility, bloaty head and slack tongue. Even today I play it, the music is beautiful on the go, the graphics have aged well and the gameplay ages with the player. That and these always extras to find, like say cheating? :p
you know what history my past week after I discovered this series binge watching non-stop also I'd like to see some namco games like Pac-Man that be a challenge or Dig dug or bomber Man just ideas
ah, theme hospital. :D i'm just playing it from time to time (despite the last level has a game kiliing bug in it...). i played it when i was in hospital last year and got strange looks from the nurses, haha. :D
i have played this game then i think i would have if anything it was a great time waster waiting for other games to finish downloading once i figured out the basics i did finally get out of the stage if i rember correctly i made it to stage 4 i have yet to beat this game
Incorrect, Theme Hospital was *always* going to be light hearted. It was never intended to be a serious sim. Ofc they wanted TH to fit in line with the others in the series (humour wise). Still a good vid... infact perfect for my morning S,S&S ;).
One of my favourite games as a teenager, I've just downloaded it off gog and am enjoying it again, hence looking for theme hospital related videos :d doing a lot better as an adult. I've worked in the NHS for ten years as a data clerk and believe me it is on its arse, the world of the game would be a vast improvement - I've never seen a staff room with a pool table in it, your lucky to find a fridge to keep your packed lunch in, that doesn't smell like a tramps arse hole ;)
Man hospitals are depressing, whenever I went in for ketoacidosis I hated it. The only decent thing was being on a drip, for some period of time I avoided being thirsty....but the trade off is being in a hospital. Bleh. At least I could read in peace though.
I loved this game and was so excited when part of the team came back through Sega for Two Point Hospital.
Patients are reminded not to die in the corridors.
Look out for other Bullfrog Products!
Terminal patients to the front of the queue.
Mrs. Berkenhead to the rear exit, please!!!
Patients are here, at their own risk
Doctor required in inflator roooom

invisibility not invincibility
"Help me doctor! I can't die!"
Pretty sure Dr. Groper ( the one seen in the intro to the game) would gladly test this theory with his chainsaw...If your credit is good.

new review on two point hospital when its released LOL awesome work mate
'Warning, the hospital administrator is cheating'... don't judge me, we all did it. Great vid dude
A cheat is running the hospital

all about the cheats lol ..... build everything with tons of cash and still lose haha
Was never into business management simulators but this game somehow got so much appreciation it was hard to ignore.
Has Theme Cemetery come out yet?
love the series by the way, keep it up! :)
Nosrep Suomynona Holy fuck. This. THIS. That's it, I'm learning to make a video game just so I can create this! I already, after seeing this for 2 seconds, have a basic outline and I am starting a spec list!
JoelRiter so how did it go m8?
@@FitFatFern Probably didn't get past the list.
I got this game for free on Origin but honestly I have yet to play it. Also how the hell is it that they still don't have a single Theme Park game on there but they have this one? So weird...
The original creators of Theme Hospital are returning for the upcoming Two Point Hospital, which is a spiritual successor to the game.
Please don't feed the vermin, thank you!
Anyone else remember the rat shooting bonus stage?
I would play theme hospital for hours as a kid. I loved the humour and the music and all the different illnesses. It was just funny. Good fun to play. Miss those days
I still play Theme Hospital to this day on PC. Still holds up for it's humour and how addictive it can be to make your own hospitals. Made more than many to count lol. Great video Slopes
I just watched Reliable Rhubarb's video. Both feature good insights on the development and reception of the game.
So much nostalgia!! I owned all 3 of those games you showed at the beginning.

another awesome video slope. just the level of care in your vids make them a pleasure to watch, just a bonus that the content is always interesting. you deserve so many more subs mate.
I still have my original CD copies of Theme Park and Theme Hospital. In fact they're both only about a foot away from where I'm typing this.
Thrilling stuff.
I'm glad EA haven't made a new Theme Hospital game. If they did, it'll probably be on mobile devices, filled will microtransactions. Anyone remember what EA did with dungeon Keeper Mobile, because I sure as shit haven't forgotten!?
Don't remind me, Dungeon Keeper Mobile was a pile of horseshit.
Keep an eye on Two Point Hospital, billed as a spiritual successor to Theme Hospital. time will tell if it works as a sequel or if it's just the same game, but 3D. Worth keeping an eye on regardless. Due out this year, apparently =)

Eastside Show SCP Does CorsixTH count? Having said that I would like a fully programmed libre hospital management sim game.
Yeah that is the one I mentioned, and I think there is an OpenTH in the works, although I am not sure on the last one.
Check the rest of the complete history series here... goo.gl/JjBIHi
If I may: given a new entry is forthcoming, and the sheer amount of confusion due to remakes and such, a Complete history entry on the Ys series would be interesting AND tImely.
This game is one of the most awesome things that ever happened to digital entertainment.
there was going to be more in the theme games series like Theme Movie Studio Theme Resort, Theme Prison, Theme Ski Resort, and Theme Airport, would being nice to see what these games would be like. all got canned and never made it past the concept stages
a complete history of dungeon Keeper
I had to wait about 20 years until I was good enough to beat this game. Those last few levels are brilliant and hectic!
You should try Two-Point Hospital its really good.

We should make Jeremy hunt play theme hospital lol

Hey, how do you get Aquarium to work on a modern PC? I've tried compatibility mode and it didn't work. :/
You should do a video about Plok. It had a pretty interesting developpement history.
Okay, video aside, your employment history sounds fascinating. Requesting a video called "Ibbertson's Employment: The Complete History"
Can't wait for Two-Point Hospital!
Nice of you to feature my local hospital, the Royal Surrey. Hahaha
I'm curious about those stock footage if they are stock. Like did you buy them off a site or did you just use whatever you could find?
This game is pure gold!
What a strange theme to base a game on, but damn, it works really well.

Now here is a story about how ones doctors life went upside down .
love this channel! Education that fun! :)
You make great videos!

Any chance on the Dungeon keeper series next? another set of bullfrog classic... And one game that makes me want to vomit with rage.
Great history!! Can we have flashback for megadrive next?
THEME AQUARIUM FTW

still need to try two point hospital
too much balloon head EVERYWHERE!!!
Wasn't the voice of the receptionist the same actress as the receptionist in The Brittas Empire?
You know what? I never actually played Theme Hospital. This might be a time to change that...
keep the good work up

I loved this game
Oh, wow, I ended up in the Surrey County hospital after an embarassing encounter with a drunken ne'er do well
Loved this game so much 😃😃😃
To be fair I do like the Frutiger signs in NHS hospitals. :-)
9:52 So what did they think of Dr Mario?
I doubt hardly anybody in the UK knew that game existed.
Yes!!! You Did It!
*Invisibility not invincibility, for the latter you wouldn't need a cure! XD
constructor history next plz!
I would think working at a real Hospital would be depressing.
i have played this game then i think i would have if anything it was a great time waster waiting for other games to finish downloading
once i figured out the basics i did finally get out of the stage if i rember correctly i made it to stage 4 i have yet to beat this game
It always made me laugh when people died on the toilets

I love your vids, but man! Were/Was Messups everywhere and Invincibility?! Invisibility.
A video discussing Theme Hospital... with a few mild references to Scrubs?
Daniel...... you spoil me :D
RSCH, "fun" memories...
