This can already be done (although not officially and via a 3rd party app). I have a Sonos Amp powering front left / right with a Sonos ARc Ultra and they only play the correct front left / right channels and not a downmixed signal that would happen via grouping.
Do add center channel volume slider in the app for Sonos Arc Gen 1. That would make me extremely happy. AND add stereo front speakers feature to the Arc for wide sound stage. Happy Birthday! 🎈🎊🎂

I am tired of companies charging premium dollars for equipment, then having the nerve to make sure your equipment can't be used without an app that you have to pay for. It's like endlessly charging for the use of the equipment which you already paid a premium for. I don't mind paying for the hardware cause the quality and the craftsmanship shows. But I refuse to do any subscription service.

Sonos themselves seemed to be ambiguous on the matter.

Yup, if brands such as those whose name rhymes with WiiM can provide that functionality on a mobile device oriented app….. Also, proper bass management, PEQ/delays etc, based on measurements from external calibrated microphone, and import of filter files calculated by programs such as REW. I mean, Trueplay is a convenient and meme-able utility, but is very limited in terms of user fine tuning.
If i was the new CEO going in and I pay attention to people like Pete and read comments, I'd make DTS:X happen as it would be a quick but BIG win!!!! If, it's doable.
I agree. Sonos is spending dollars to save pennies. They don't want to pay the licensing fees for DTS or chromecast and by not doing that they're literally losing sales. They are also doing that by not including hdmi inputs. There are a lot of devices out there and the 3 inputs left on TV's (after plugging in the soundbar) aren't enough for people.
@kenshinesca I was thinking about the license fee yesterday. Short of researching it, I am interested in how it works. Sonos aren't recording in it they are playing what the studios recorded it in. They and others alike, i.e.. Samsung, Sony, etc. really shouldn't have to pay a fee full stop to use their codecs or whatever it is needed to play the audio.... if there is a fee for "upgrading" to DTS:HD or DTS:X from DTS, which sonos supports, i wonder how much more that is.

Late in 2024 I bought a pair of Era 100’s and a sub-mini. It took level 2 support and about 4 weeksto get my iPhone first to even see them, and then to register them into my system. I still see several other devices that are not mine, but so far nothing bad is happening as a result. Now one of my Era 100 channels set up for stereo is not playing nice with my Netgear access point (which is NOT a router, Sonos. Some LANs have access points in addition to a router /gateway). Sonos support gave me a 10-point checklist of gateway settings to troubleshoot. I’m still going through it. Is it really so hard to design a robust WiFi connection, Sonos? Especially since the other stereo channel is working just fine? It’s not the device. I swapped speakers and the connection issues migrated to the other speaker.

I never thought I’d watch a Sonos TH-cam video to learn how to eat an Elephant but I did. One simple thing I want from Sonos is to be able to move my sub between systems easily without retuning every time. I have a pair of fives and a full arc set up in my lounge, when I’m listening to music I want to add the sub to my 5’s then when I’m finished add it back to the arc set up.
I am seriously looking at my first soundbar and the Sonos Arc Ultra, soundbar only is at the top of the list as I do my research, including this channel. I was unaware of the behind the scenes exec people problems. I did see on other reviews that the software had some bugs but I wasn't focused on that. I am now. Is the buggy app a deal breaker?

Happy birthday Peter! I see it the same way as you, I have Sonos speakers everywhere and they have been working without problems for several years. The app is a bit slow at the moment, but it works. In the living room I had a home cinema system with the Sonos Arc, the Play 5 Gen. 2 and a Sub Gen. 2. When the Arc was swapped for the Arc Ultra, I unfortunately had to swap the Play 5 for the Five as the old ones were no longer compatible, but the Sub was still compatible. Unfortunately, it wasn't completely smooth and it cost a lot of money. I think Sonos should do more for high-res audio and pay more attention to higher quality materials again, the amount of plastic on the expensive speakers sometimes seems a bit cheap. In the past, the sound of the Play 5 Gen. 2, for example, was captivating and impressive, but today they build more compact products which may be quite good in terms of software, but still can't match the sound of the big speakers. I notice the same thing with the Arc Ultra, it's a big step up from the normal Arc, but for the price, I think you could get more out of it with bigger drivers. I think Sonos has enough smaller soundbars and could make fewer or no compromises in terms of sound and size with the Arc Ultra. When the Sonos ACE came out, I was impressed, but after a short time I noticed, as with all other Sonos products, that they are decent, but don't really stand out from the competition, that’s something that has to change.

I am hoping they will fix the sound drop outs while watching football. Sonos can't figure it out. Multiple times with tech support and still an issue. I should have done a bit more research on this system before purchasing. I have a 10 to 15 year old sound bar that works flawlessly. I don't get it.
Do allow advance eq setting , front surround speakers, center speaker access to era 300 speakers.
