    I adore this movement of the trio. There is something really scary about it. Absolutely thrilling. Pure energy.

      An Humble Messenger of the Law of One pretty sure that was Bach, and remember that these were written around the 1950s and 60s, when modern music started to arise. But yeah, one hell of a drop.

    That's a very different rendition of the passage he quoted in the 8th quartet! It sounded completely fanatical there, while spooky and dance like here.

    Dude, I'm not sure I've ever seen any one rock out this hard in my life, and I go to metal shows all the time.
    Oh and on a side note, Shostakovich definitely recycled a few parts of this for his 8th quartet...

      @@MMenyan There's a handy word for that you might already be aware of- "recapitulation"
      My favorite modern example of that is from the band "Between the Buried and Me", in their songs "Specular Reflection" and "Extremophile Elite"

    The 8th quartet 'quotes' the melody from this trio. Shostakovitch referred to that quartet as an 'autobiographical' work.

    Love how he recycles the dorian theme towards the beginning into the 8th String Quartet's 2nd movement. This time he just flaunts it around in such an confident way. I love it. Such a graphic musical idea.

  • @jyseow
    @jyseow 14 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    @sethlightking actually it's the other way around... the theme in his 8th quartet is derived from this trio.
    the trio is an earlier work.

    Oh My God! Freaky coincidence just happened! I was looking up the cello version of "Smooth Criminal" which was preformed by Luka and Stjepan on a whim. and then I remembered that at some of the faculty at a music camp i attended played this piece, so id decided to look it up and ironically Stjepan was the cellist preforming in this video. Wow! This was amazing to listen to! what a coincidence! Hahaha. =D

    @prayformercy4 Yeah, the 8th quartet contains a lot of quotations from other pieces; he wrote it partly as a kind of "epitaph" for himself.

  • @Fiddlevlad
    @Fiddlevlad 15 ปีที่แล้ว +98

    Wow! Very, very good! The fact that it is, perhaps, a tiny bit too fast (in my opinion) is compensated by the huge discharge of energy you generate!
    In other words, congratulations! The three of you are very good musicians, and judging by your schedule, which can be seen on your personal site, you have a shiny future ahead of you.
    I am not a religious person, but if I were, I would pray for your future success every single day!
    I wish you all the best and the utmost success!

    @sephiroth999999 Hi - I have to say I disagree with you (not on the "be successful" part) - I like is this tempo . I believe Shostakovich was trying to mimic the atmosphere of the Concentration Camps, and in my opinion it should constantly be pushing forward with the piece feeling as though it could spiral out of control at any moment, I used to play this, and I remember how much fun it was to race through to the end, although by the 8th minute or so my arms were killing me...
