What is your favorite camera and lens for landscape photography?

I actually finally used the EOS R for a few days this week. I like the feel, but the buttons do take getting used to. The Touch Bar wasn’t as bad as everyone made it seem. I used it just fine to control ISO. However, what I did notice was how much louder the shutter is on the R than on the R5 and R6. Sheesh, to my ear it was a huge difference. The files that come out of it are beautiful though! Happy New Year to you my friend! Praying for all the best for you and your family for 2022. 🙏🏾

Thanks for the shout out, Wes!😊 I would have to agree with you about the EOS R for landscape photography. Actually, any type of photography with minimal to no movement of the subject. Happy New Year to you as well! Wishing you a successful and prosperous 2022!🥳🎉🍾🎇

I'm very interested in your comment. I have an RP and a friend of mine has the R. His AF has been a nightmare for tracking any kind of movement, even just people walking! My RP is almost flawless and can track any moving subject (cars, motorbikes, cyclists, scooters, skateboarders, joggers etc.) with generally 100% hit rate. We thought his AF was surely faulty and he returned the camera to Canon, who said it was working fine. They even compared it to a master EOS R body they keep as a reference.
I would buy an R (and keep my RP) for sure, but not if it can't do basic AF tracking and as good as the RP. Is there anything your EOS R can track and keep up with?

@@cooloox I wish I can compare the R's and RP's AF but I never owned the RP. When I had just the EOS R at the time I had success with bird and wildlife photography but had its share of challenges especially with small fidgety birds and in low light. AF tracking of the R is definitely miles apart from the R5 and most likely the R6 since the R5 and R6 have the same AF system. Don't get me wrong, it is a very good camera which is why I still have it and don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon. I would suggest renting the R before making a purchase decision. I wish i could be of more help. Good luck!😊

Hello coolox - I used an R today at work and the tracking wasn't working for me. So, I'll have to do a bit of testing side by side with the R5, and maybe borrow an RP. But it was a little worrying, and thankfully it was just simple portraits, nothing too demanding.

Happy New Year Wes! Nice video and good of you to remind people they don't always need the latest and greatest. I'd buy an EOS R to go with my RP if it could track moving subjects, but from everything I read, it cannot. The RP tracks just about anything. I'd love that weather-sealed body, higher MP and higher dynamic range, but it's so frustrating it can't focus in situations I need it too. I'm still deciding what to buy, between the R6 and R5.

Thank you for the input! I'll see if I can do a comparison with the R and RP on tracking subjects.

@@WesKriesel Wow, that would be terrific. To get the most out of them you have to go into the menus and set various AF options for locking on, etc. I'm sure you know that anyway.

Looking back, I remember wathcing your channel wanting a EOS R. I did finially get it, I had the EOS R and the SL2. But I ended up getting rid of all my Canon gear and now I have the ZVE10 and A7IV. I do photo but am video heavy, (I still like using canon better)
You know the RP is really good for photo only... not so great for video. and it is even cheaper.

Happy new year! How's the ZV-E10? I really thought the ZV-1 was one of the most fun cameras to use (with the vlogging handle accessory!) and the ZV-E10 seemed like quite an improvement with the interchangeable lenses and the new bigger sensor.

@@WesKriesel I have had a lot of fun with it, works great as a web cam, I'm not much of a vlogger, but i use it for interview setups, so great 4k (as good as the R as it is cropped but zve10 has no record limit). it does have bad rolling shuter, but i don't shoot much stuff where that is a problem.

    • @cooloox

Yes, from everything I keep reading, it seems the RP AF tracking is superior to the R by a long shot. Mine never misses and tracks anything. I can't find anyone who's had successful reliable AF tracking with the R.

Cost per mega pixel and flexibility makes it a viable option in today's market as your prime camera or backup / alternate. Love mine. Stay safe my friend. Aloha.
