    T-bills good place to park for inflation for coming year before global recssion hits nxt year. but still doesnt kep up with inflation, better to diversify with some gold as well.

    I used to look down on bonds due to low interest rates. But i now realize that having cash on hand is so important - especially for investment opportunities during market crashes.

    Hi Josh, do you happen to have an excel or google sheet for monitoring a bond ladder (which consolidates the bonds currently own etc) ? If not, do you have a recommendation on where to find one ? Thanks!

    #4: The interest rate of SSB next issue is dependent on the SG bond rates the previous month (e.g. June issue rate is tied to the April rates), so it is quite easy to determine if the following issue rates will be higher or lower (just examine this month's bond rates). That's why I always wait till the very last day to apply. I actually have some emergency fund cash to deploy last month, but I can see the current issue will have a higher rate, so I waited out. I also let my family know about this, so they redeemed their lower rate issue last month to prep to apply for current issue. In this way, no need for extra cash to roll the bonds.
    Btw, we can only buy in multiples of $500, so if want to compound the interest, need to wait until it accumulates $500. Usually, I just treat SSB as emergency cash. Any interest earned will be part of my investible cash. 🙂

      @@joshconsultancy Is it necessary to wait until after early next month, then you can start applying for SSB again regardless of whether you sell the existing SSB in the middle of the month or at the at the end of the month if your investment in SSB ceiling is reached, i.e., $200k?

      You need to be more clear with you question. If what you mean is using the ssb money you withdrawal to buy ssb, then yes you need the money to come into your bank account first before you can purchase

  • @benk7177
    @benk7177 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Problem is if currently already max out at $200k, u need to first trim the amount that u want to apply in upcoming tranche. Say u want to apply $50k, so u need to trim $50k off first from your current holding. But what if end up only capped allocation at $15k each? MAS should consider allowing to apply first and trim later.

    Other than SSB, I am thinking of getting US 10 yrs bonds at 4.25%.. but not sure if 10 yrs from now, USD will still be at this level or lower than current SGD 1.35 when it is time for redemption.

      US 10y bond doesn’t have principal guarantee at any point in the 10y. The bond price can fluctuate 👌🏻 see it more as an investment

    Goes to show how hard it is to make anything better than 3.33% consistently, never mind the wishful financial planning rosy thinking of 6% over and over again (year after year) on a much bigger sum to exploit the magic of compounding.
