Subtle change is an even more progressive/experimental song off of the same album

With good melodies even death metal can be so uplifting and mesmerizing. Great band

Perfect! In your introduction you were talking about Archspire, Revocation and RON. That was quite a line up then. Later this year (when all things are normal again hopefully) I will probably be standing frontrow to enjoy Revocation, RON, Allegaeon, Black Crown Initiate and To The Grave. That one concert in January and the one from Opeth 30th anniversary in October are my big goals of the year. Let's hope for all and everybody that those things are possible again, because if so, then all is possible again. Cheers.

I’ve just discovered this band. This album is my first. It sounds very rich and dynamic. Loving it. I think you apologized enough lol

Their other albums are "different" but also very much "the same". I compare their catalogue to Mastadon's. It's always clearly Mastadon, but every single album somehow has an entirely unique sound.

Funny thing is I watched that initial reaction you had way back when and have at times remembered it and thought…..that guy was wrong!!! Hahahah. Seeing them live this September and this got me AMPED

Not the first time I've been wrong. I was wrong in 1994 once if I remember correctly. The trick to being wrong is you accept it and own up 😉

So glad you went back to review this one. Check out "Sand Baptism" from the album right before this one. It's solid.

I got this album late last year, amazing stuff. Btw, if things get finally better, they have a tour planned for late 2021 in europe with Archspire (again), Allegaeon and a couple others.
You might want to check out Nuclear Power Trio, any song really. They have recently released their first set of songs, instrumental prog from a few very talented musicians.

@@PNW Was front row for seeing them with Necromancing the Stone and Battlecross right after Proponent for Sentience came out in a way under-sold club show here in Ohio and man, they were so incredible. They played their cover of Limelight too, which was fantastic. Got to meet several of them after the show and talk for a few; super nice and humble bunch of guys.

This was one of my favorite ( almost put an accidental 'u' in there) albums picked up after a PNW video. I have to go back and listen again now. Amazingly well done.

    • @PNW
      @PNW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There's nothing accidental about that 'u'

There are some parts of this that really work for me (fantastic musicianship) and some parts that really don't (some very chaotic clashes of sound), think I best go back and have a look at that review from 2018! Thanks for the exposure, I've heard this band mentioned many times but had never listened to any of their stuff!

monarchy, sun eater, circles of the sky, all fromthe previous album. Airless, Rain Eater from their Debut. They are all worth a shot too

Brilliant ! I saw these guys live back in 2019 when they were here in Australia with Ne Obliviscaris and Allegaeon. Sadly, the sax player wasn't with them but their set was still awesome. This is, without a doubt, one of my favourite albums of all the metal I own. Cheers Hedgy.

I remember enjoying Where Owls Know My Name, but I think since that time I -may-have confused it with the comedy band Raised by Owls (I mean, easy to see how) and obviously during lockdown they've become absolute shining stars on social media.... But this reminded me to check Rivers of Nihil out properly, so perhaps an apology on my part too (not that they'll know or care)
Love this, but that gig scenario makes me jealous. Also, yes to Shining. You clearly already know about them but if you don't know their newer less jazzy stuff then

Fucking brilliant album, wish I'd known them when I was up north a few years back haha, got a second chance to see them in Bristol with Archspire this year though \m/. Also, they've been teasing a new album, hopefully news on it soon ;)

Hi Hedgy. We just released a new single called Tower. We're an online symphonic/prog metal collective with multiple vocalists and musicians. The response has been great so far, we're very proud of it and hope you can react/analyze the lyric video! Cheers and take care!

    Yes shame on you 😀
For me this is one the better albums in many years that ( together with Persefones Spiritual Migration) breaks new ground in metal.
