  • Howdy everyone, I took a break from the road and made a little video about the molded fiberglass truck camper I picked up recently. there isn't much information about them out there (probably because they're so rare) I hope you enjoy this walk-around.
    Wavey and I are in Lousiana looking at potential shanty boat projects....please stay tuned.

    I had a cab over camper one time loved it should have never got rid of it. I would put it on my truck in September and not take it off till March when we got ready to go camping all we had to do was get some food and leave. I left my tail gate on it was our back porch and out side table. Great video safe travels

    Yep.....agree 100%. Molded fiberglass shell is the way to go. I've had three motorhomes and a camper over the years. Everyone of them leaked except the one I have now. A 1991 Ford/Coachmen class B motor home. All one piece molded fiberglass. It's like a double hull boat, very thick fiberglass. I can walk on the roof, when I changed the roof A/C. Have had it over five years now and has never leaked a drop. You'll love the Baby Bigfoot if for no other reason than not leaking. Good luck with it.

    Great find, I seen one of the baby Bigfoot’s in a Tennessee campground 10yrs ago. I had my Toyota MotorHome parked next to it for a few days. The owner gave me a tour and I was very impressed. I’ve had several truck campers but non compared to that Bigfoot camper. Congratulations on finding one. You have a great setup for traveling. Good luck in your adventures Brenton. I miss your midnight boat texts..

    I have a 1954 Veght travel trailer my mom gave me, belongs to her family, have it for forty years. It was perfect when I got it, but is old and well used now. Looked online, none, I must have the last one in existence. I love it. Used it for everything especially as an art studio. So I know how you feel about your collector item, would not exchange it for anything. I like it funky on the outside, nobody but the collectors notice it. Thanks for showing us your little Bigfoot. I love real Bigfoots too, have seen good pictures of two types of them.

    My 2006 BF 9.6 LB is still going strong, the only area that I had to rebuild was under the door entry, they used softwood none treated all around the frame to mount it, the bottom gets all the rain coming down the door seems and under the sill, I replaced the rotted wood with aluminum tubing and sealed it up all around, I cut out some of the sill plate to make room for my new folding step from Step Above. they are great, fold up into the camper, only con so far is having to clean them off before folding up. I loved that into.👍🏻

    Great Truck Camper. I also bought a camper designed to fit a Tacoma. I have a Tundra, too. I had a machine shop build me brackets that attach to the camper and extend out 6 inches. I also built draw slides, which are 6 inches high. They lift up the camper because the Tacoma truck bed isn't as deep and i got some extra storage. I don't know how to send pics. Best of luck. Cheers, Rodney

    Thanks for doing this video! I'm kinda in the same market for a cabover camper as you. But, in my case, I've got an '08 Ford F150 with the 5.4 liter V8 & the 8' bed & would love to find a lightweight cabover camper to do some traveling with. I assume your 4-door Tundra is a 6' bed, so I'm not sure if a lightweight 8' camper exists.

    • @backwatersandbackroads
      @backwatersandbackroads  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gene, the tundra has a 6.5 bed. They do make light weight campers these days, some out of aluminum and some just built with weight in mind, but they are super duper $$$! 15-25k. No way! Molded fiberglass campers (bigfoot. Northern lite, artic fox...some others) aren't usually built for weight. Heavy! Needing a 3/4 or more. I've found it really hard to get the truck camper right. Half ton trucks just can't handle most of them. I'm adding lift bags to my tundra now...it needs it even with the baby bigfoot.
